Dan MacFarlane tours the remains of the Skatepark of Houston. SPOH is famous for it's metal surfaced ramps, and its "Shut Up and Skate" contest series. You see metal ramps at public parks everywhere now, but this is where it all began. In the 1970's this land had another park called the "Texas Twister" which had a concrete area, and the bowl you see in this video was a part of that. The Skatepark of Houston lasted from the early 1980's until 1998. It is closed to the public. You may have seen SPOH in the recent Bones Brigade documentary, Danny Way's documentary "Waiting For Lightning", Shackle Me Not, Hokus Pokus, A Soldier's Story, Skaters From Uranus, and many other classic skate videos. Dan was on the SPOH skate team in the early 1990's.

I grew up in Houston and skated this park so many times in the 90's. Fast forward and I now work in a machine shop 2 blocks away, I drive by there frequently now and it's really sad to see it this way

Awesome vid!!! Thanks for posting! Can't believe anything is still remaining. It's so eery, especially how alive that park was. They were my main sponsor for three years in the early 90s, before I regrettably quit skating and moved to San Diego so that I could, uhhh, NOT SKATE. FML. I did surf my balls off for a good 5 years and have had 23+ years of amazing experiences in California. Plus marriage/divorce/marriage, etc. I've also built two ramps out here, most recently in my own backyard. BTW Dan I saw that you had a ninja ramp contest video from 1991s somewhere. Can you post it on FB or RU-vid? Thanks and awesome vid!!!

I remember when that bowl was first installed, clean and bleach white. I remember Steve Schneer did the wall ride naked for gas money home I believe. Unreal. Tod Prince would always stop and talk to me, ask me school was going. The Godoy brothers, Hubert Plummer... good times.
