Yeah in many videos he does tricks with his back facing the flatrail really close to it gives me anxiety every time. One primo away from either breaking his spine on it or smacking the back of his skull into it
As a longtime Jonny Giger fan and longtime freestyle-only skater, this was so rad. (And a little enraging how quickly you pick up tricks that I still find difficult, like the rail-flip to rail.) Please by all means do another one of these in the future, Jonny, and show us your latest skills on the smaller board with blunted nose/tail and offset wheels.
back in middle school when all my friends were street skating. i was the only one who did freestyle. it was so unpopular back then.. i think it may be a little better these days but street skating will always be #1 it looks like. i never cared though. i thought freestyle skating looked way more fun and creative. and still think that.. also i had a blast doing it. don't be afraid to be different people
to me the only attractive part about freestyle is it being unpopular, but i just actually enjoy street skating more. imo freestyle skating is still percieved as "cool" generally and i just posted a basic rail stand heelflip out and that was one of the few times i've got any attention (not that i care, because if i did i would just stop skating at this point). my first and probably last "actual" freestyle trick just because it's just not that fun. i can't jump off something with it, i can't do it while rolling (it's 'theoretically' possible, i know:P), it just takes some set up i feel like. i gotta say tho, it feels good to street skate for some time and bust a rail -> heelflip out just us a surprise, works every time xd
Honestly tho Jonny you should give us a video series with just doing and learning crazy freestyle tricks. I'd love to see you come up with a full free style routine. 💙
I follow him because i love his style as is, if he wants to do a series with it i'm here to watch it but i'm not going to push him to skate a style he doesn't enjoy :)
When I got my freestyle skateboard from waltz I was just in awe in how beautiful it looked. They are so perfect for freestyle. I learned how to rail stand in a day.
Come check out the World Round-Up Online showdown contest! Starts July 11th online. But our real world contest should be back next year, we have run it for 10 years now :)
I love how nothing is ever forced or fake with any of your content johnny , and just to see how much you love skateboarding and its community. Keep the OG stuff coming brother !!!!
Very awesome to see a talented skater like yourself on a Freestyle board! The rail to rail was nice! Some more tricks to try: Pogo (no handed and regular), Flamingo, Coconut Wheelie, Railstand to casper, Casper to Railstand, Truckstand to rail, Varial Fingerflip, 360 fingerflip... :)
You’ve helped me with so many tricks in just two months, I’ve been skating for the years and I’ve learned more tricks watching your videos than anything else before , you truly are a godsend and you know damn well Rodney knows it , Thank you Johnny Giger
I think the first professional level board I ever owned was a Per Welinder freestyle deck back in the day when the other Powell decks were the size of small boats. We've come a long way.
Oh Johnny it's so great to see somebody have honestly fun with their board I love your vids And that there is su much uploads recently thanks Bleib dabei
I'm an old bmxer and I love this man's skate vids. I loved Mullen before I got into bmx so it's awesome to see someone with similar style and especially the trick attempts.
Lol love watching these videos I learnt and learning o much it amazes me I went from my Skateboard to doing a manual on a penny board , I was amazed at myself and my friend was too at the fact that I could manual on my Skateboard and a tiny penny board tack för dina fantastiska videor Jonny Giger🙏🏾🤙🏾
Awesome, Jonny! I watch all your videos and really love the content. I actually got inspired to pick up skateboarding again after many years, and bought this reissue of an old 80’s Mike V board. However, I strained my leg really bad just pushing, so I guess I’m done 😂 I’ll tell you, it sucks getting old... Your mind forgets, but the body remembers oh so well. I guess mid forties is too late if you haven’t skated in 25 years 🤣
Ive always wanted to pick up a freestyle board. Sick video, dude. That merlin twist was a trick I'd do in the Tony Hawk games thinking it wasn't something anyone would ever be able to do.
Never knew you can buy specific boards for freestyle skating. And long ago when I watched a Johnny Giger video. Well, I am glad that slides still work with the add ons underneath tail and nose, which can come in handy for Caspers. By the way, I use gloves for skating. You should do the same.
Its interesting to know you can still do nose and tail slides with skidplates. I'm bout to put some on my next street setup, bet it would make the board last way longer.
Ahha! ... I see that I rubbed off on you. 🤣 Look at you ... Freestyler. Welcome to the '70s ... er' ... 80's .. giving props to Mullen who perfected what we started "...🛹" Kendall
Wow this video was full of great trucks! Your ability to learn is amazing!!! You've got an extraordinary, powerfulmind man. Freestyle is just another language to learn and your english is better than many Americans too haha
I Love freestyle Skateboarding. Before the Operation at my knee but especially after. So normally i use an 8.0 Deck. Is it so much easier to learn freestyle with an Special Board? Truckstand, Fingerflips and so on works with the normal one. But Combos are so hard for me
Love the videos man! I'm not a skater but can certainly appreciate some sweet tricks, and you post a lot of them! I was wondering about a possible new trick. Street style utilizes the pogo trick here and there. I've seen you primo slide...has anyone ever done a pogo slide?
