I couldn't start the evening better than with such a spectacle! Thumb up, comment to show appreciation for your work, time to sit down and enjoy the video!
Your battle reports are very useful. I am starting with 4th. I watch many battles reps. Your format has no useless banter or dice flying across the board. Your insights are excellent. I am happy to buy from you as my friend Gary suggested. Thank you.
Haha, if you don't know our background I totally get that; these are games against customers that come into our shop here in Florida! I take notes and pictures of the games and then walk them back for the videos to try and show people a little bit more of what's going on strategy-wise. If you ever find yourself in Florida shoot us an email to schedule a game against the rats!
Yes this format is excellent, very good strategy explanation, all the focus is on the interesting stuff with the editing. Would love to see sharper visuals though it's kinda blurry. Looking forward to the next one.
Hang on a minute! Pestilence battle formation!!? With this spread of units it only buffs the plague monks but alternatively you could on jezzails and Stormfiends shooting. I’m interested to see how this plays out
Great video as always. Unrelated, but I'm a Warpfire Loot box customer so I was wondering if the August boxes have shipped yet, or more specifically if there is still time to change the selected factions, I've gotten KO and 3 months running and wanted to switch it around.
We ship them out Tuesday or Wednesday of every week, if you want to send me an email I can check the status of yours! You can change the setting any time you'd like, and there's also a notes section where you can add in extra preferences too!
One question: you say you don't have to activate maelstrom. To which core rule are you referring? Is there something that says that every ability can be activated or not?
I love watching your battle reports.. so clean, so well presented, so much important information and I always learn a lot. Hope to see some Kruleboyz and Stormcast as well :)
Hey guys, was recommended your channel by the AoW guys, Siegler specifically, as a good channel for competative AoS. Looks like he made a good suggestion! New subscriber from me. Also, love the format. On a different note, you probably wont see this, but where did you guys get your table? It is really sweet, and I've been in the market for a new wargaming table.
Siegler rules! For the table it's one I had custom made by an artsy friend of mine. After making it I asked if he'd be interested in making them for other people and he said no haha, so sorry about that!
@warpfireminis Seigs is a G. He's one of my favorite coaches, plays most of the armies I do, but dont tell the others, lol. Noooooo! The table is so nice! But seriously, fair, that's a lot of work to make tables. Thanks for the reply!
Do love seeing Warpfire batreps! One day, eventually, I will start an AoS army, probably the Bone guys, Ossariarh something? I am so bad with their name, but I like their models the best. Though the new RATS!!!! Are amazing too!
My shooty skaven just got *absolutely hornswoggled* by Soulblight, so I hope these rats avenged me. Ah, they had no Bloodknights. In my game, those just ate my cannons and jezzails alive. Very fast, very deadly, very scary.
I don't how gnawholes are supposed to work in AoS 4 and didn't found really much info about it, so I deploy them the same way than in AoS 3 with all of them on the board directly, but you keep adding them on each turn?
The way it works now is: - You set up one Gnawhole during deployment in your deployment zone. - Then at the start of each battle round (including the first one!) you can put another one out anywhere you want outside of 9" of enemies and 3" of other terrain. - Once you have 3 Gnawholes out you can't add any more.
(updating this as I watch along) If I understand the Gnawholes correctly, you set up one in the deployment phase as Faction terrain, correct? And Start of each battleround, you get to set up another, making it two going into the first turn. Did I miss something, or why aren't there two gnawholes on the board? =) Oh, I guess you are rectifying some mistakes as you go along, fair enough. Mistakes are made. 22:05 Ah, you really should drop those gnawholes start of battleround (just after deciding the active player and determining the underdog). It matters more, if your opponent goes first, but it's still a good habit to get into.
Running the worst detachment, that requires you to run the worst chaff, then running an overcosted Verminlord that requires you to run the second worst chaff and then capping it off with another expensive unit is certainly a choice
@@warpfireminis I mean sure, but don't you need to buff the beejesus out of them with Skavenbrew and a priest for them to slap? Running both Eshin and Pestilens seems like stretching the army around two different buff targets and lacking the buff sticks
The Plague Monks and Night Runners aren't in the list to do damage, their purpose is to screen, be bodies on objectives, and then tie things up in combat. The Monks piling in at the end of turn gives you lots of chances to just tie things in combat and make them waste their turn fighting Monks instead of getting on objectives or fighting your main pieces. Eshin doesn't really get any buffs at all in any of the battle formations, the Night Runners are just best in class with the 130 points I have left in the list and the Deceiver is the MVP almost every single game with his base abilities + Scurry Away + Foulhide.
You're allowed to shoot things that are in combat! You typically can't shoot with your own unit if you're in combat yourself, unless you have the "Shoot in Combat" tag on the weapon profile.
These are games against customers who come into our shop! You can schedule a game against me via email, then I take notes/pictures throughout the game and just walk back through it for these videos, trying to explain some of the strategy/decisions that took place.

I love Sigmar, I do, but the "double turn" is so BS. When a player fails either on tactics or a goal, they win a roll off next round and they're given an entire "Do over" turn. really frustrating to lose that way.
Every game you play is going to be very different based on the flow of the game, I'm personally a big fan. It helps keep "bad" armies in the game against the best armies, and always gives you a glimmer of hope and reason to keep playing even when you're down big. I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea because it definitely can swing a game one way or the other, but there's plenty you can do to play around it and top players still have very consistent win rates, so it's not just random.
You get to place a Gnawhole during the “Deploy Faction Terrain” portion of the deployment phase and then another during the Start of the Battle Round using “Splinters of Vermindoom.”
We'll definitely get to some more regular content here soon! I'm playing tons of games, but with it being so early it's a lot of people's first game, or they only have a couple games under their belt which can lead to some lopsided and less entertaining games (or ones where I just have to take my foot off the gas); 4th edition is one that really takes some getting used to. That said we're firing up The Challenge again next week, so we'll start covering those games and they should be more competitive since there's prizes on the line!
@@warpfireminis Awesome! I get it. I've only played a couple of games but I really like the new edition. It feels like alot of the rules are way more logical. How are you feeling towards 4th? Looking forward to the upcoming content.
@@ScreamingD So far I'm loving it! I think it's easily the best edition yet and overall is just a lot more fun for both players. With the index there are a few balance things they'll get dialed in army-wise, and then I'm super curious to see what they do with Manifestations. They're heavily impacting games right now, so that's either intended and we need to build our lists to work with it, or they tone them down a bit, hopefully we find out soon!
@@warpfireminis agreed, however i think they should revisit and balance the manifestation lores. i love the idea of spells having models but morbid conjuration is just way better than the others and even amongst those there is a huge difference, especially looking at the slaves to darkness manifestation lore. i thought its kind of fun, not too strong for summoning for free, a bit of flavour etc. when i read it, however when i saw what others do im really disappointed. they are just on a different level.
@@warpfireminis I agree 100% And yeah, I hope they level the Manifestations a bit, it would be nice if the choice between the different manifestation lores were harder than it seems to be now.
Why do games of AoS have such small armies? I really want to get into AoS, I’ve been playing 40k for 11 years. But I can’t get over how small the armies feel and seem in AoS, ESPECIALLY with skaven and vampire counts which are the armies I wanna play. I really feel like every single unit in the game needs their posts cost reduced by minimum 50% to actually feel like the game is supposed to imho. Were all the other editions of the game similar in army size?
A lot of these channels bring the BIG expensive heroes. But if you don't spend all of your points on only a few models, you can absolutely play swarm armies. Especially as Skaven or Soulblight for example.
Both of these armies are pretty elite, and shooting you straight the current meta overall seems to be leaning into big reinforced expensive points-wise squads. Scoring tactics involve killing things and staying alive, so you see people bringing big expensive units that can do both. As people get things figured out we'll see things even out a little bit more, but no matter what we definitely have smaller armies than 40k. It's great for faster games and makes the price of entry a lot cheaper than 40k in most cases too, but just depends on what you like!
Apparently unpopular opinion: I don't like the video format. It feels less like a battle report and more like a weather report. I'm missing the energy of people reacting to things as they happen, it lacks soul. Your opponent isn't even present. As for the game itself, I do wish SBGL was better represented, especially acting like it's a terrible matchup for Skaven, which I don't quite buy. Not a lot of the deployment and one turn SBGL got made sense to me. I guess the other problem is, it's just not the most exciting game, considering how quickly it was conceded (by SBGL, of all armies, with all their recursion). Things got interesting and then... nothing. End of video, bye. Anticlimactic for sure. A lot of people are happy with how short the video is, but this isn't a good representation of a full game. People seem to forget that.
With Age of Sigmar, quick games are unfortunately a part of it sometimes and not every game is going to be a 5 round slugfest. These are games against customers that come in that I go through and recap, so I don't have power over how they choose to deploy or the decisions they make. As far as not liking the format, that's okay, everyone's different! The goal of these is to be on the more educational side, trying to explain the why behind the decisions both players are making rather than pure entertainment and dice rolls. This quick game wasn't awesome for that, but again quick games happen sometimes. If you're looking for a traditional battle report I'd recommend the guys over at Season of War, they're the best in the business when it comes to those.
@@warpfireminis Idk, I tend to find Season of War is a bit over-produced for my taste. I prefer Battleshock Wargaming. Much more of a "two dudes playing Warhammer" vibe, rather than "two dudes and a production team making youtube content". The narrated parts randomly placed throughout throw me off. If more of an educational vibe is what you're looking for, don't take my comment as insult, you caught the vibe few, if any, others are providing.
