Btw. Most of the time someone runs into a skeven, they say its just beastmen or mutants that look like rats. Nobody denies that a rat can mutate, but that an entire species of ratpeople exist? Impossible.

Last night at the tavern some guy went on about ratmen living in the sewers beneath us. Can you believe that? RATMEN. Just ridiculous. Our empire would surely tell us about them, if that were the case. Long live Karl-Franz!

Just a lore titbit as i have not seen anyone else bring it up. But Albino Skaven are considered in a completely different caste to white furred Skaven. White and grey furred Skaven always go into the grey seers and have magic capability as said. But albino Skaven are different, as they are sort of considered to be a higher tier or version of black furred Skaven. A greater warrior caste so to speak. Almost all albino Skaven are entered into the special guard of the council of thirteen which always remains small due to the rarity of albino Skaven. This unit is represented in total war Warhammer as an ROR.

I could go on and on about how amazing the dwarfs are in this setting, I love fantasy. I would hyperfixate so hard.

1:04:58 just a sidenote, nurgle and the skaven's version of disease are not the same, Nurgle is about giving into despair and has this other side to it of life and rebirth, the horned rat's diseases only ruin and kill

one of my favourite tidbits of skaven lore will always be the horned rat getting ticked off at a council of 13, so he basically threw them all in a hole and then left em for so long they basically turnt into a verminlord

Skaven are so much fun in total war. I really been struggling to learn more about them and fantasy in general though so I love this episode.

Loved it! My first love with the warhammer universe was Fantasy and this was hilarious. DK and Shy did a great job. You got the basics and did a funny job doing it.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure in fantasy the dwarves may hate the Skaven more in general (depending on clan at first) as a dwarf may be willing to at the very least listen out an elf if needed (with much seething anger) without attacking first sight. but I'm pretty sure you won't be able to find any Dwarf clan willing to even tolerate the presence of a Skaven clan in general

You missed Clan Mors for the big 4 clans. The clan who actually have a sense of loyalty which has made them extremely powerful because they regularly get shit done due to the increased discipline of their soldiers and actual punishments for backstabbings that negatively affect the clan. Also Lord Gnawell is the leader of Mors, adoptive dad of Queek Headtaker who's actually loyal to him, and this loyalty is also shown to Queek by his stormvermin with one even taking a dagger for him

Not sure how its so hard for bricky to understand that they ported everything from warhammer fantasy into 40k and gave it a slightly different flair to be more sci-fi

I'm from the 40k side of things however there are a few things from fantasy I'd like to learn more about. 1. The gods of fantasy 2. Lizard men (Tell me everything) 3. Stormcast Eternals 4. Ridiculous hero units. (Gortek, Kroak, the one skink that murders demons) Outside of that some general lore video would be cool. Faction overviews, faction alignment and alliances, major events.

If I remember things correctly, there was a point in time where Games Workshop WAS intending for Warhammer 40k to be the same universe as Warhammer, just 40,000 years in the future. Hence the shared chaos gods, the presence of the Old Ones, etc. I even remember really old theories about if Sigmar/the fantasy Emperor was supposed to be one of 40k's Primarchs, and that Warhammer Fantasy was actually occurring on some specific planet in the 40k universe. But it seems like at some point in the 2000s, GW decided that they didn't like that idea, and so they made them more distinctly separate.

The warp manifests ideas as a form, and sometimes that form is tangible, and those forms area everything from Demons to Gods. And warpstone is physical warp energy, so it stands to reason that it takes the ideas thrust upon it and manifests it. So I totally believe that different warpstones around different people will do different things. Mutate clan uses warpstone, and now it mutates. Disease clan uses warpstone, and not it creates disease. Machien clan uses warpstone and now it is just diesel and bullets.

The easiest analogue for the Fantasy and Age of Sigmar relationship would be that it's sort of like Megaman X and Megaman Zero series. Megaman X had a big capstone game that was supposed to be the end of the series, the destruction of life on Earth, which leads into the post-apocalyptic setting of Megaman Zero. The Zero games were written with the expectation that Megaman X6 (I think) was going to be the last game, and that the Zero series would continue the overall story. But then after a bit they just kept making Megaman X games, while also making the Zero games. So instead of having a natural, obvious point where the X games end in the timeline and then several hundred years later the Zero games start, now it's... sorta vague, sorta gonna happen in the future but now it's unclear where or when. Or even if it will happen, by this point. edit: Haven't finished the episode, here's hoping Bricky picks up on the Skaven being the Imperial Guard. edit edit: Bricky, one of the early edition easter eggs was an implication that WHFB was taking place on a planet in WH40k's Warp. Like, the Fantasy Chaos armies could have "chaos relics" that were Chaos Marine wargear. They're leaning away from that now, but it was baked into the dna at one point.

I loved this change of pace, I think as long as you don't get too bogged down with all the different topics across your now three 'shows', I'd love to see some more fantasy origins, or faction origins for the various factions in Sigmar!

Please talk about more about the skaven and how they think they are the main character in their own story and everyone other skaven is a back stabbing bastard out to get them. Also talk about how the council of 13 was its pretty terrifying and funny as hell.

I feel like the most similar thing I've seen to Skaven in other media (besides stuff like Kings of War, which is to Warhammer what Pathfinder is to D&D) is probably the splicers from Bioshock. I don't know if there's a direct influence between the two, as both are arguably satirising the same ideological positions, but they both live at depth in tunnels, constantly fight amongst themselves, have a higher level of technological development than would make sense in their respective time periods, use genetically modified slave beings with drill arms, and are addicted to drugs that give them magic powers.

A nice tidbit about the 13th council seat ... sometimes the great horned rat attends. If I remember right he has just straight up eaten the head grey seer before if hes being a idiot.

I want them to do an Episode on the Empire of man and Hear Bricky's Reaction to the near Night and Day Contrast Between The Empire of Man and Imperium of Man.

The two winners of warhammer fantasy are the horned rat and nagash, both are now powerful gods. The horned rat ascended to full chaos god, becoming the god of treachery and ruin (having stolen those aspects from tzeench and nurgle) Nagash was A feath god, but due to being ungodly powerful even before he became a god he has since eaten every other death god. Crazy thing is that has made him much less of a asshole then he used to be..

At that point (8th edition) Warhammer Fantasy was probably/perhaps just a Feudal World in the WH40K Universe, nay even galaxy. The human empire even worshiped gods that came in a way that was probably landing pods and looked suspiciously like Space Marines.

I friggin love this. Something that confused me though was that DK said warlord Gnawdwell was the representative for clan Moulder, when in fact Gnawdwell actually runs clan Mors. Everything else was on point though atleast for me, and I can get why he'd get that confused what with having to cram all that in and Mors and Moulder kinda vaguely sounding the same if you're in a hurry. Just thought I'd point it out

The only thing I feel like you dropped the ball on was "THE HUNGER". Every Skaven has this all-consuming hunger, constantly gnawing at them. They can get full, but their bodies burn through the calories really quickly and then they're back to square one. It's especially bad after they tire themselves out fighting or with work. But that's okay, because there is always more food around in the form of smaller/weaker/dead Skaven. That's right, they're also cannibals. After big battles, if they manage to survive or win, they'll fall upon the wounded and eat them right on the battlefield.

I feel like this wasn’t talked about enough. The skaven have sniper rifles, chemical warfare mortars, miniguns, and literally nukes. Like, they will send a thousand rats at a front line, and then have maybe 6 miniguns start shooting and not caring about friendly fire. Everyone around them ranges from early industrial age to just knights in armor. And clubs. The human factions most advanced weapon is a tank with just a gunpowder cannon loaded in the front. Like the type you imagine pirates using. At least the Skaven can’t fly. The dwarves fucking build helicopters and airships to bomb people with. Also, Fantasy and 40k USED to be the same universe, but it was retconedinto its own thing.

I can't express how happy i am to see Fantasy make it here. I've always preferres fantasy over Sci-fi. In terms of how bricky put it, growing up i was FAR more Fantasy-pilled and far preferres LOTR of Star wars/star trek, etc. And you even started with my rat-bois, ive been painting them for a good amount of time. So fun story there was one good Skaven, a Spartacus if you will, when the Counsel of Thirteen heard of him they offered the rest of the revolt freedom to whoever slayed Skabbicus, the leader, when the rest of the revolt finally did it the counsel had every single one of them slaughtered Also DK you forgot about Clan Mors the largest of all of the clans

I feel like the most important part of Skaven culture and a stumbling block for Bricky is that their entire society is based around cowardice and self preservation. Everything from the lowest slave to the highest leadership and even the power of Clan Pestilens relates to cowardice and self preservation. - Why stab your buddy in the back? Because now he can't do it to you and now you don't have to worry about it. - Why rise up the ranks to be a leader in war if it puts you at risk? Well because unlike other armies, Skaven leaders "Lead from the back", it was even a rule in 8th edition (or maybe earlier). You are not leading a charge as a leader, you are directing and forcing others to fight and die for you. Power gives you the right to not be at the front, that place is for slaves and the lowest ranks of skaven society. - Why is Clan Pestilens so strong despite being disease ridden? They have perfected diseases that surpress the desire to flee and instead turn their warriors into more of a frothing frenzied rat. More like a rabid dog with the speed of a skaven. Also its important to note that warp stone is basically nuclear material killing and mutating skaven even though they use it for everything.

We need a skaven vehicle episode with kirioth

Here's how I imagine warhammer fantasy: Fantasy, 40k, and Sigmar are all part of the same multiverse, and the thing that connects them all is the Warp. So, the chaos gods all remain consistent across universes, but that's pretty much all that remains consistent. There may be some things that have similarities - Old Ones, an "Imperium of Man," Gork and Mork (though, I wonder if they are the same across universes, what with them being gods and all) - but those are more coincidences than anything else. ... But that's just my thought. I dunno if that's Canon.

I've always been a fan of Skaven because that was the army my brother ran. He made a load of custom models for it before official models were released. A Custom Hellpit Abomination, a Verminlord with a cape made of faces and a Rat Giant that is 1 inch taller than regular giant models. Also a Giant Spider that the skaven have somehow stolen.

To help Bricky get what warpstone is, boil it down to one phrase. "What if Meth was also Uranium?"

Fun fact: there are theories of the two settings being in the same universe. One theory tells us that the 40k universe is all happening inside a crystal ball in some wizard’s tower in Fantasy Warhammer. Or that the fantasy world is an undiscovered planet where one of the missing 2 primarchs is actually Sigmar himself, the God of the empire.

There is now a very real possiblity of Gotrek & Felix, Nagash, Karl Franz, Thorgrim Grudgebearer, Archaon, and more appearing here...I so excited.

Someone should maybe remind somebody about one fact. 40k is the spinoff. Chaos gods, Gork and Mork, Khaine... most of them were first WH:FB creations.

I love how the Skaven can be absolutely terrifying from an outside perspective, but from within you can quickly tell that they're just a bunch of crackheads fighting amongst themselves. Like imagine the fear you'd experience with them fully invading your city, but don't realize that it's actually the 5th time they've tried to invade because they keep sabotaging themselves before they even reach the surface.

One of the ways i like to picture the horned rat is the skavens own twisted version of chaos worship Murder and bloodlust, but without honor Corruption and decay, but without rebirth Deceit and ambition, but for its own sake and not serving a higher plan Sadism and cruelty, but without pleasure
