I love how Skeletor and He-Man both perfectly represent the community. You have one being on the more reasonable side and taking things the best they can, then you have He-Man.
I knew Skeletor would have something to say about this bullshit. But fr, Micheal Salvatori being laid off pushed me from being flabbergasted and bewildered to full on just letting go of this shindig.
@@OgunTheShogun Was there a reason given from HIS end? Maybe he was looking to leave Bungie sometime soon anyway and they just fired him after he had mentioned it? Like you CAN’T fire someone THAT high profile without SOME context beyond “saving money”. It’d be like if Disney Fired John Williams right after they had announced the last sequel movie…. Actually, the idea of Salvatori composing for the next Star Wars or Halo project specifically BECAUSE he was fired from Bungie _does_ amuse me greatly to be honest.
@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire That's me right now. I'm like finding immortal cope to justify any reasonable reason that they fired the most epic composer I've ever slobbered. Maybe in reality he finished all the music for the rest of the game and this split was actually preordained and amicable. I feel like I'm watching my patents break up or something. But, true I too think whatever he works on next I'm anticipating...
The worst thing is the statement "We've only kept the right people" or whatever the correct phrasing was, which is a massive slap in the face on top of the rest.. Basically coming down to "We fired you because you aren't good enough for us"..
@@vernonhowell4070 mike Salvadori was literally the right person to keep, same with the other person that made the deep stone lullaby, but both were fuckin fired. You can't tell me with a straight and honest face, that Bungie really thought their decision through even for a second
@@arakemi1080didn't bungle say themselves they were going to keep him for a while? I hope it wasn't due to budget cuts because if that's the case then something else bad might be happening to Bungie
@@arakemi1080 you don’t know what they were like in the workplace. They could have been distracted or distracting and those ppl have been getting laid off all over the place. If they were the right ppl they would still be there.
@@vernonhowell4070 I get that but still, you simply don't fire the dude behind almost all of your music and then say with a straight face "Sorry, but you aren't the right person for us anymore".. That's straight up bullshit.
"With one announcement, Bungie has turned this game from a Hindenburg into a fucking Titanic!" This is genuinely one of the greatest and most clever lines I've heard in a while.
Wow. I can't believe I am both Skeletor AND He Man... You really hit the nail on the head. The executives being at fault, how some of us are so invested we'll see it through to the end... ...and how I DON'T CARE if they call it a TWID now, its a FUCKING TWAB!! 🤬
I genuinely feel so bad for Devs that remain and those that got laid off. One side suddenly lost many friends and are under pressure of both development and fear if losing their job as well, while the other side has to suddenly find a job, right before the holidays while also losing contact... I wouldn't be as mad if it was properly announced and dealt with or even negotiated in some way, but all we got was this catastrophe... I love this game but man, Bungie management make it so much harder to care.. P.S. Screw you He-Man, might as well call it TW*T
It wasn't a catastrophe. I'm so tired of seeing people complain about "the way it was handled". They were given very little notice so nobody leaked info about final shape, and they were all given severance, something most people will not get. They handled it about as nicely as you can in that situation.
You're one of the few remaining Destiny 2 content creators I still follow since deleting the game and your content is still top notch. Skeletor always knows what to say to brighten up my day. I still can't get over the fact that after firing so much talent and diehard contributors to their success they had the nerve to say that they kept the right people.
I haven't played Destiny 2 at all since it launched. But I love your Skeletor videos, Tom. Very entertaining, if the game ever completely keels over I would love to see you continue the Skeletor content on whatever your newest interest might be!
I haven't played it since launch either and honestly, I was expecting better from Bungie at the time. It didn't suck me into the game like the first one did, it felt incomplete. I guess now we know why.
“I wanted this game to get a wake-up call not a fucking donkey punch”. Fantastic way to word it. Definitely not my intent either by not preordering TFS
My thoughts are the same skeletor, I just want to enjoy the game I spent so much time on. I just want that destiny spark that I haven't felt in so long.
The phrase "the right people" always means the people who are paid the least compared to everyone else in a similar position, plus upper management (upper management never gets the axe).
@@jordanlovenixon1408 couldn't've said it better myself. i am a MASSIVE halo fan. i've been playing it since i was 8. and to find out they fired the guy who made its soundtrack, my FAVORITE soundtrack, pisses me off.
Tom always manages to perfectly capture commentary on the game, from both common perspectives, and frame it in a humorous way that still makes me laugh to help me cope with the anxiety this game brings. Thanks for all you do mate lol.
Someone in upper management needed to get fired. The fact that no one did gives me no hope for this company or this game. I hope the best for the devs that got payed off and the devs who have to piece the Final Shape in the face of extreme survivor guilt. This system is f*cked
Capitalism is fucked. The working class needs to stand up and take the means of production into their own hands. God i wish we could have destiny made in an economic system not based for profitability
Capitalism is not the problem. In fact, it was capitalism that led to the historic expansion of the middle class in the 20th century. No, the real problem here, for Bungie, has been poor decision making by its leadership. What needs to happen is for true capitalism to self correct. That is, the members of Bungie's board/the shareholders need to vote out the boobs who made the decisions that got them in this pickle.
@@TangSooTerp both of y’all are correct in there own way. Profit has made most of the decisions instead of love for the game. But it is also true that upper management shouldn’t be untouchable in a capitalist economy!
This is literally the best, funniest, and most balanced take on this from ANY content creator associated with Destiny 2. Fucking great job dude. For real.
“If it isn’t the consequences of our actions.” Bungo is making garbage, community votes with their wallets, layoffs happen. This was extremely predictable.
Between the unsatisfying drip-feed content model, hyper-monetization of everything, unreasonable level of investment the game demands of players, tone-deaf corpo-speak and pandering (Latinx, anyone?), and general sense that Bungie has no goddamn clue what they're doing anymore; it no longer became a question of what would buckle, but how long EVERYTHING would buckle.
2:02 To be fair about the TWID, it was released JUST AFTER the layoffs happened, so they were probably too busy running behind the scenes damage control to address the issue then… Because they didn’t really have ANY answers yet TO give at the time. I’m expecting a LONG TWID next week.
You expect me to believe that the asshats that just purged 8% of the workforce in the worst way possible did so without knowing why? There's a reason the TWID-replacement reeks of corpo bullshit, and it's probably because the real information is too damning for the company. I love this game, but man, fuck Bungie to hell and back. I wish the devs could run the show. The suits are clearly completely incompetent.
out of the loop for a while, whats the difference between a TWID and a TWAB? Edit: I just realised that it might mean This Week In Destiny, great change.
I'm so happy to finally a new video from you, Tom. A lot of us had missed your types of videos. You still give us something laugh at through these troubling times in Destiny 2, and we hope you keep on going!
lets be honest. this guy does skeletor and he man voices to him self on a daily basis. and eventually were gonna get a best of random skeletor and he man thoughts i have on a daily basis part 1.
Bungie will forever never be the same without Michael Salvatori who's been with Bungie for years. That's like getting rid of Nobuo Uematsu and Masayoshi Soken from Square Enix combined. The man made some amazing pieces and was part of og Bungie's identity.
I don't even play destiny but I'm still learning about its entire development history, not through any comprehensive three hour long video but through skeletor.
the "my god we rly did vote with our wallet" fucked killed me, but as for basing your channel on destiny i swear content is funny enough i'd watch videos even on games i dont necessarily play or am invested in
Wow He-Man and Skeletor are the both parts of my brain right now. Totally in unison. And the fact that He-Man was shocked at the news Skeletor was telling instead of countering Skeletor just...just says something to me.
I aggressively agree with the statements made by this video. I wanted the game to get BETTER and I wanted TLS to be an amazing finale to the IP, I wanted to see more on TLS before I made a decision on whether to invest my time in it after finishing LIGHTFALL after TWQ got me sold on the witness and the anticipation of the climax of the franchise.
I literally paused my game of BG3 to watch this video... Heman really need to talk Skeletor into playing other games so we can get more videos from these two!
None has ever done something as bad as firing one of the best video musicians of all time, the art designer who was also the designer of one the most recognizable logos in gaming history AKA the Halo logo and then have the audacity to say they "kept the right people" in a blog post. Name one that comes even remotely as bad. And no, a game's performance does not count.
I blame the devs for when I die to architect's, exploits and bugs. I blame management for crucible changes, sunset, disabling exotics and aspects on day 1 raids, deleting legendary shards, randomized recoil patterns and all the other bullshit that causes player to cancel pre orders
As someone who quit during Season of the Deep and came back for two days during the release week of season of the Witch just to uninstall again I’ve long since taken the pill of “Destiny is on a train to hell that is gaining speed exponentially.” At this point, I just wanted the developers to get their desires. If even that is getting squashed into the dust, I hold no sympathy for those on top. If Bungie as a company dies in a disgraceful blaze due to this, so be it. I hope the developers don’t have to sink with the Swiss cheese-holed ship
damm how do you always somehow pull of the EXACT beet he-man did with the dramatic story leading up to a educational and hopefull ending... at least as best you can given the circumstances
I love you for making this. Even if the final shape did come out on time I still wouldn’t play it. I’m too burned out still from it. Especially since I know for a fact they still aren’t going to change strikes at all. The one thing I actually enjoy grinding the most and now it’s just sweat fest for gm’s.
