Very impressive logo. They did some nice work with the shadows, too. And your tutorial was great.

Saw that exact post about sidney opera house! such an amazing rebranding! really in depth thoughts and visuals, did a test of the H in illustrator couple of days ago, so when i saw it in my sub box, and it was from you, it made me happy :D

Amazing when it works, but I see a small issue> If you have the letter O or B for instance (i.e., a letter with some enclosed area) then the "intersect" won't work well and we won't be able to get the desired effect.

Yes, that would look great. The H was easy to follow, but i'm still learning gradients, and learning how to do the S and even "O" would be great

After you clicked the intersect button, open the combined shape and drag the oval one position down. That should do the tick.
