Sketch To Sea: Visa Run

Stepping away from our traditional content, this week's video shares a bit more of our Chinese experience. Part of doing business in China is maintaining your Visa status. We realized a bit late that I was coming to the end of my 60-day window and needed to leave China and reset my stay. Normally this would be a quick, same-day turnaround but we took advantage of the national holiday and the fact that work on the boat would be paused in order to make this Visa run a little more enjoyable. Hope you like it and thanks for watching!

IMO sharing non-boat content on your channel makes your channel much more dynamic and interesting. It's always nice to get a break from boat content and learn about different places, cultures, and of course food. Thank you! :)

Such an amazing place. It is striking to see the rich culture and the orderliness of the city. It reminds me of the tour the Wynn’s took us on in the Chinese city where the HH catamarans are built. Both cities remind me of the wrong turn that our Western culture has taken and how our cities like Detroit, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, etc are falling apart.

I will never comment on any videos production, solely because I can’t even edit a video-in spite of having a member of my family a professional editor! This video was a great surprise. The location was an even more surprising. The areas shown in the video looked amazing. Thank you for sharing!

I am immensely pleased to see what has to date been a channel about a fantastic boat morphing into one about the boat and the adventures ashore that it will take you....and me too! Taiwan was my favorite port visit in my navy days (late 60's). Old memories of old Taiwan. Kaohsiung mostly, now a modern city with tall modern buildings like Taipei but still preserving the old town areas and customs. I am looking forward to your continuing adventures with eager anticipation!

Thanks for sharing. What a fun side trip. I may be all alone here, but I am thankful for no smell-a-vision. Jamie does a fantastic job with the voiceover. I know it's all about the boat, but I would like some more of Sean and Jamie camera time.

Shawn, a great story of your journey with this boat ! Do you have a video with the plans after the sea trails ? What’s next ?

Honestly, not sure. No video as of yet on that topic. We are still trying to figure out what is next ourselves.

@@sketchtosea3750 Wow, just looking at the amount of your other videos , your dedication and effort to the build was probably overwhelming. It seems like your catching your breath now. Good luck with the next stage. Will you be allowed to sail in Chinese waters without many restrictions or will you need to transit out upon commissioning ?
@sketchtosea3750
@sketchtosea3750 8 месяцев назад
We were not allowed to sail in Chinese waters. All Chinese water is considered a military zone.
@walterhiegel3020

Wow this was fantastic bad transition and all. Really boat life is about where you travel to and the interesting places to visit. So do they give Michelin stars the same as Europe or is there a different rating system in place? Interesting tht you can visit Taiwan to reset visa. Back when I visited China you had to have an official invitation just to go. A lot has changed since then.
@sketchtosea3750
@sketchtosea3750 10 месяцев назад
We still have invitation letters. Our visas are multiple entry, and I can confirm that we are back now. Taipei does have some of the Michelin Star rated restaurants like Europe, but they have also issued a basic guide which is what you see in the background.

China considers Taiwan a separate country/entity for visa renewal purposes? Huh. Thank you for the tour of Taipei!
@sketchtosea3750
@sketchtosea3750 9 месяцев назад
Yes, I found that interesting as well. Also, our flight plan was due south to avoid the straight of taiwan. This happened in both directions. It turned a 40 min flight into 90 min.

What kind of Chinese visa do you get, I researched and saw that only Business Visa and eVisa is available, and they only gives you 30 days, did HH help you there? Taiwan looks very interesting, was there in late 70's or early 80's, heard that is has become very expensive since?
@sketchtosea3750
@sketchtosea3750 10 месяцев назад
It was not overly expensive. We have a trade "M Trade Visa".

I must admit I wasn’t a fan of the colour when I first saw it in the build shed. After some time and especially when she’s at sea under full black sails I am starting to appreciate it. Whatever colour she is that’s a very impressive vessel and everyone involved should be very proud
