You asked and we delivered. Along with your great response to our Pre-Completion Tour we got a number of questions regarding our engine rooms and mechanical systems. So, this week we are happy to bring you a pretty complete tour of the mechanical and electrical systems on the boat. Come along and see our engine rooms, tech space, bow locker, and anchoring systems. Hope you enjoy!

Epic, thanks for taking the time to share. I’m impressed you know the systems… apart from the first technical area 😂. Amazing detail from H&H. Their electrical team should be commended. That crane is so well hidden when stowed.

I like the electronic joystick features that has an option to allow the 2 engines and bow thruster to make the boat park itself in a geo-specific location - that sounds very convenient. Thanks.

@esce69

You forgot to show us the massive solar array, or maybe that's in a previous video. I still have to look through those. I would be very interested to learn a little bit more about the (green) energy management. You did not opt for hybrid drive or is the ecodrive simply not an option on this size yacht? Very impressed at the technical complexity. Do you need special training or do you plan to have a technical crew-member? The davit is one of the most ingenious solutions I have yet to see. I would still opt for a swim-platform - especially because you seem to be very much into diving - but I guess you went with this solution to be able to have a dingy and jetski. This is the most impressive sailing yacht I know of. There if of course Mconaghy but I haven't seen any footage of their big sailing cats. Thanks for sharing!
@sketchtosea3750
@sketchtosea3750 9 месяцев назад
Thank you for the comment. Yes I do go over the solar in one of the other videos. We have 7.2 KW of solar built into various different parts of the boat which is capable of producing 150amps peak, and has averaged about 110 amps. With C-zone, it is pretty user friendly. With a 10 minute discussion most people would be able to learn how to control the vessel. We do have a technical crew member, but we enjoy knowing how all of this works as well. You are correct about why we don't have the swim platform, and long term they just become a hassle to service and maintain. When designing this boat we were back and forth between McConaghy and HH. We are very happy with the decision to go with HH, and this is not a slight to McConaghy at all.

Thanks for sharing the technicals …The container for the coiled shore power cord is a nice contraption but here is my question: A coiled cord should not have high currents going through it..The inductive coiled condition might create high temps melting the cord..hence becoming a fire hazard..So hooked up on shore power the cords should be completely reeled out….
@sketchtosea3750

I'm so impressed with your boat. Have the future of refits and repairs been looked at? I imagine when an electrical overhaul is required that it will be a mammoth job but has that had consideration? I know boats have a high demand for maintenance so how have you looked at that overall? I read through all the comments and the first one made some good points. So from that and also, I gather your chartering as well so how reliable do you think it will be? HH seems to have a lot of experienced-based people in their setup so how do you feel that has translated to your reliability and simplicity of the project and equipment that has been chosen?
@sketchtosea3750
@sketchtosea3750 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for the comment. When planning a build like this there was a lot of thought put into the location and the selection of the various equipment on board. Everything technical is easily accessible. As far as charter reliability goes, a lot of that is going to come down to standard maintenance and preventative maintenance of the vessel.

With several battery packs throughout the boat does that mean that there are fire suppression systems in all those locations as well?
@sketchtosea3750

It does, but not because there are batteries in different locations. It is a RINA requirement. The classification itself is outdated and has not been updated for current modern lithium batteries.

Do you really run the raw engine cooling water through the hot water tank, or do you run the engine coolant through the hot water tank?

Good question. There is a heat exchanger that heats the domestic hot while cooling the engine. We do not run the "raw" water through the the system.

Batteries is that 12 x 200A or 300A? Sounds like you HAVE to run aircon using genset. Isn't the battery Bank large enough to run at least some of the aircons? And you talk about shorthanded sailing, what does that mean, how many total crew will you have including you and your wife? And thanks for the show around :-)
@sketchtosea3750
@sketchtosea3750 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for the question. We are set up with the batteries to run silent through the night (all hotel loads). What I mean by shorthanded sailing is 2 people can operate the vessel. Batteries are 300A. In total we will have 4 additional crew.

I noticed the same thing. The extinguishers at 2:26 and 5:55 are unreachable in case of an engine fire. I think that it would be better to locate them immediately next to the hatch, so that you can grab them first ting when opening the hatch. And the one shown at 10:10 might be difficult to reach if the metal cover gets hot due to the fire.

A good rule for blue water and one you may not know: never take anything on board a boat that you cannot repair on your knees or back with a flashlight , while vomiting and being tossed about. If you could not repair it on a workbench with good lighting , while siting comfortable with a laptop and a manual, how could you do so in a boat during a storm? In other words there is a lot, wayyyy too much, stuff that can break and diagnosing where it is going is to be a difficult task, especially in an emergency or harsh condition. You are going to need a marine engineer as part of the paid crew as I doubt any owner without training as a mechanic and electrician, will be way over his head. While all appears well thought out, things break on boats ( Murphy's Law: at the time most critically needed) and the biggest and most common issue is that it takes a lot of time and trial and error to figure out what is wrong, well before a fix is thought of. Simple designs are better as you will soon find out. So many crafty designs these days and the boats keep getting more complicated, and that is their weakness in my view. Also popular fly bridge concept borrowed from motor boats is not seaworthy in my view. It's popular in the luxury style but NOT seaworthy. In a rough sea way you do not want to be up high in the boat where the movement is more pronounced, particularly while steering or trying to navigate. The boom is way too high and adds to the tipping danger in high and confused seas. And why fixed keels? Are you trying to slow the boat and make it less able to point? If so this is a protected water cruiser, not a go anywhere blue water boat. And what of solar? You have enough space on board to have an all electric boat. Way too much reliance on mechanical propulsion energy production rather than sail and solar on this yacht. Not a performance boat.
