It's a new year and a tradition we have in our family is to clean our home so we can have a clean home for the rest of the year. I've been slowly decluttering my home, finally getting to my sketchbooks! Many of these sketchbooks are from my college days from 2009 - 2013.
Books I'll be discarding will be going to friends and organizations like The Dreaming Zebra. They accept both new and gently used art supplies.

If it was me, and I had pages falling out of my sketchbook, I'd just remove all the pages, keep them as loose leaf, and toss the cover.

Ali Z It was very tempting to do that D: I already have stacks of paper, I don’t need more 😰 so far no one around me has expressed interest in wanting to the loose leaf them selves :(

Or turn them into mini sketch books by folding the pages in half, making signatures etc.

I would use the cover for future use :> and the Pages I would use it as a loose leaf too

From what I've seen online, the pentalic sketchbooks had their binding styled changed because it was too much of an issue for people that pages were falling out and/or the front page was half stuck onto the cover. I have a friend that bought a bunch of it for super crazy cheap because the company wanted the new stuff out asap. Not sure if it is a rumour or truth though

ahhh maybe that’s why the ones that i bought were so cheap lolol because the binding is so tight it’s hard to draw

I wish I had watercolor paper like that. Even the cheap stuff. A friend is moving and gave me a pad and I’m having such a good time with it. Someone will hopefully appreciate the gift!

hiya tori! looking through these was a ride, i found you in 2016 when i was maybe in 6th grade and you really helped me improve my art a lot. i remember waiting up at night to watch your sketchbook video challenges, haha. im so glad to see that youve grown and im really happy youre posting again! keep at it, girl!💪

The amount of sketchbooks you need to declutter makes me feel better about the amount of unused sketchbooks i have. ALSO makes me feel like i need to buy more. It’s a strange juxtaposition

Going through this video felt like a whirlwind of emotions and memories. Not only for you but also for myself. I've been watching you grow as an artist while stepping along the path as well. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who had trouble with the Pentallic sketchbook... I bought it for a class and it was a nightmare to work in because part of the class was going around town painting in our sketchbooks and it would just fall apart 😩

Omg that cannon xl sketchbook!! I feel you on that one, I really liked the sketchbook quality wise it’s fantastic! But it just wouldn’t work with me, I did a lot in it in the first one I had but the second one was a STRUGGLE haha glad I’m not alone with that

You seem to have a similar issue with watercolour sketchbooks that I do. They either don’t open flat, fall apart or the paper is inconsistent. I’ve moved to using the Art Alternatives ones which are great for pencil and ink. I tape in pieces of Fabriano watercolour paper when I want to use it. I would have chopped up the accordion books for the loose leaf paper.

MACARON!!! How is she doing? My first Pentalic fell apart so bad. I wrote to Pentalic, they sent me a new one, but I'm still hesitant to get back into this mess. Might keep it for gouache :) I enjoyed seeing that you too have half-full sketchbooks XD Made me feel less guilty about mine

Loved your video. It was interesting to hear your thoughts on various sketchbooks. I will say that I was surprised you didn’t care for the Handmade watercolor journal. I’m a little biased though I call it my magic sketchbook, because so far I’ve loved every drawing I’ve done in it. Anyway, so glad I came across your channel. You have a new subscriber.

Sally Bunday I’m a little surprised myself! I really want to have a good experience with this sketchbook, the design is so nice. From the binding, the textured cover and nice paper weight, what is there not to like? I think my particular books were old and lost its sizing? I’m hoping the next time I try one, it’ll be a magical experience like yours. I’m so happy that you like the sketchbook! Like it double for me!

Oh man. I recently (“recently” its been 1.5 years 😱😱😱) moved out and when I moved I packed all my books and sketchbooks but they got lost in the move!!!! This made me really wanna find those again so I can look through them.

Yey new channel! Ah all your sketchbooks are so beautiful! I don't really have the habbit of sketching often.. my skerchbook rn is just a place of planning a piece- a lot of thumbnails and not really finished work. I rly should start drawing in it just for the sake of sketching tho >_

For the pentallic one it’s treated me well, and mine is exactly the same , except mine has a sewn binding, not a glued on so I think they updated the way they make them to make them hold up better 😁😁❤️❤️

I recently had a massive declutter of unused sketchbooks and watching this somehow relieves me. It was definitely difficult but the piles of sketchbooks were just causing me anxiety.

I'm kinda surprised by how many sketchbooks you use at once! I've always been the type to finish a complete sketchbook before starting another so when I look back on it I know about when I drew it and the more I flip the more I see the change in my art.

Yay new channel! What a fun start - I love seeing your amazing growth! Plus the art that I remember from old Patreon PDFs and videos 🙂 I have a small square Pentalic watercolor journal and it hasn't fallen apart yet (although I saw that it's a common issue). I'm personally crushing on those etchr sketchbooks with the white covers, but I'm jealous of that perfect one! I feel like I'm more willing to part with old sketchbooks that don't inspire me now, so thank you!

All these unfinished sketchbooks.... Im almost jealous. I have 1 extra sketchbook that is empty lol. So nice to donate all these sketchbooks. I've had a winsor and newton one falling apart on me. So frustrating, I kinda ditched that one and went with another 1 that was realy nice to use XD

I have a sketchbook made from previous sketchbooks. I cut and paste the pages onto the new sketchbook. It helps me declutter since the majority of my sketches are form, gesture drawing, and line practice.

So crazy... I feel like I'm seeing a lot of myself in these earlier sketchbooks - or myself from one-two years ago. Not that my technique was anywhere near as good as yours at the time, haaah! Aaaanyway, I should go look over my collection and de-clutter some. I'm inspired! Maybe I'll revisit some things I used to obsess over! Who knows!

My pentalic sketchbook is doing the opposite of what yours did, it's bound so well and the paper is wonderful for the type of style I have. This is amazing, I don't know how you had the space to hold all of these!

The pentalic is great, with thick watercolor paper, but yes the binding comes apart.. I have written to the company and they have not responded. Doesn’t make me want to buy them anymore..your collection looks like mine.. many , many books, good for you for getting rid of some.. I can’t seem to do it, even after they are filled..

I have the Pentallic aqua journal sketchbook and at the time of purchasing it, I was thrilled because I thought it would be great, but I've since had the same problem with the pages falling out! I'm determined to finish it though since I paid for it and I like the page format and the paper, but I can't wait to upgrade. I think next I'll try an Arteza watercolour sketchbook, but I'll definitely be exploring some of your recommendations too! Love your videos and can't wait to see more

The pentalic sketchbook is my everyday sketchbook and I love it! The paper has never fallen out on me and I treat it pretty roughly. The paper handles watercolor and gauche pretty well and pencil considering how smooth but durable the paper is. Maybe they changed the binding?
