Thx for the vid, helped me a lot when I started using sketchup! And don't worry about being to detailed, every beginner needs to know EVERY step clearly, before learning something else. Getting the fundamentals right for every process in sketchup is key!

@Rachlikesyouu hello mate, to make objects smaller or larger select the Scale command under the Rotate command, select the object and then drag the green squares.

Walls thicker just make a square, pull it up, offset it in, and pull the inner square down. And sweet video!

The high definition is amazing!

thats what I used to do but it is a pain in the ass when you have 3 inch offset walls. It will be hard for you to match the rectangles on both sides of the wall.

what if you want to do this with a wall thickness, I have 6" thick walls and my windows wont cut through them

I'm having the same trouble... I make a wall, say, 5 11/16 inches thick. the window opening goes in on both walls and its directly lined up. Hit create component (G) and then go to the alignment section (on PC its at the bottom) and glue to any and check cut opening. It works like the window in this video, bringing the hole with it, but it still isnt a component. maybe its just my computer.

yeah i hate that snap option, its helpful sometimes, but i cant find the option to deactivate it like in autocad

ptp29, I just spent a half hour trying to cut into a wall with thickness with a window component. No luck. Seems like you can't do that. Google "sketchup component cut opening". Workaround might be to cut the hole first then insert the window component into it. Just be sure of the opening positions to save a lot of patching. Get the openings all in the right place and wait till you're sure of their positions before inserting the components. If there's a better way I'd like to hear about it.

hi there! i just need a little help with stretching. Is there any ways to join objects? i'm doing cornice, I downloaded this well detailed cornice from the warehouse. the only problem is that the cornice is too short so i have to stretch it to match the size. but i really dont wanna stretch it cuz the details it has look awkward if i do that, so i just copied them. but still dont wanna see those lines between them! can u help me with that?

oh wow i was scared about how to make the windows when i just noticed that google already made like 20 windows for u and u can find it on the window toolbar and click components then type in windows in the search bar

I am creating my own windows but for some reason when I create or try to cut away the hole it does not allow me to cut away, don't understand?

I really like your tutorials and i learn many things from you, but there is one thing it really annoys me, sorry to say, but you say too much unnecessary things which makes the video too long. Im not complaining, but just asking you to make shorter videos please. And by the way, you explain well and clear, thanks.

This is a terrible video! Anyone doing any real modeling in SketchUp will have a thicknesses to the walls. Simple making a rectangle and deleting the face is not how an actual model of window is made. You should add a depth dimension to the wall and demonstrate how to push/pull a window through it properly. Terrible...just terrible video 😡
