He won't be reviewing the Circret bracelet thing because I'm sure he hasn't got it yet. Or at least the Cicret website has been making a lot of edits recently, pushing and pushing dates forward. They even removed the calendar altogether and any references to a plausible delivery date were also omited. It only says now "PRE-ORDERS OF THE CICRET BRACELET WILL OPEN EARLY 2017." What "early 2017" actually means is up to them, because they have the right to arbitrarily set any dates as they find it convenient, in the hopes the internet will forget. *But the internet never forgets.*
it is true that it is unbelievably naïve to think that a platform as big as youtube can function without something like that, though youtube seriously does make a lot of stupid decisions related to it
A good one at that. Only bit I disagreed with was pointing out the bell as even with that I'd regularly miss out on creators uploads. That hasn't been a problem for a long, long time now though.
@@TheDemocrab Oh I still definitely have that problem, even some vids don't show up in the subscriptions tab. But it's definitely better than it has been. Actually, RU-vid notifications reliability might be one of the only things that's actually improved during Susan's reign of doom XD Hopefully the next guy won't fu- What's that? He's removing even more features and the dislike button removal thing was HIS idea? Oh... Oh no. OH NO.
I know this is old but I think the bigger point is that it's not just as simple as "algorithm change??", because it is very much true tastes change and things go in and out of popularity. and on top of that, it was the algorithm that made a lot of these channels popular in the first place. essentially, the argument then becomes "the algorithm should never change."
And now they’ve removed the dislike button, run double preroll ads, removed the indicators for mid roll ads, and tried to stop people from using adblockers. I just wish that RU-vid stayed the way it was when this video was made. It wasn’t perfect, but these recent changes...
I don't know who Mark Rober is, but I watched something and somehow it recommended me a CD video out of the 100 subs I have (which is bad news for the channels that it replaced) and now I'm hooked. Love this channel, concerned that this video got 1k dislikes though, I don't think people got the humor.
I saw him in an electroBOOM video. The algorithm DOES hate him. With all the 3d modeling, vfx and animation videos I've watched it's ridiculous that this guy was never in my recommendations

"Overriding the RU-vid algorithm with a single click" Because, you know, the subscribe button isn't for actually seeing what people upload! No, that would be silly. Instead, if you want to see what someone uploads, you need to click the button *next* to subscribe that's totally unlabeled and doesn't tell you what it does at a glance.
TheTundraTerror well, I've never clicked the bell, as I don't want a notification when someone I subscribed to has uploaded. I still get all of the videos from everyone I am subscribed to in my subscription feed.
But the subscribe button does *exactly* that. All the new videos for all the channels you subscribe to still show up in your subscriptions tab, just as they've always done. A lot of the recent drama has seemingly confused a lot of people about how all the subscriptions stuff works, but this is functionality that never changed. If you want to see new videos from the channels you *subscribe* to, check your *subscriptions* tab.
What do you want? Some sort of tab that lets you see every upload from everyone you are subscribed to, that exists currently and has for as long as I have been on RU-vid? Like that will ever happen...
@OP For the button next to the subscribe button, it doesn't actually alert people until hours after videos are uploaded for certain channels, as if there's some sort of vetting process going on for those certain channels.
Ha! You're literally the 1st and, so far, only content creator I've heard talk about the notifications bell in a realistic way rather than telling ppl to turn on the notifications & complain about the bell. Personally, I *_love_* having the option & never once did I struggle to notice the big blue text box that pops up after I've Subscribed and tells me I need to touch the bell icon to turn on notifications. No offense to the *_way_* too many channels I subscribe to but imo getting a million notifications gets annoying and the more video post notifications I get the less often YT notifies me of a reply to my comment, etc (at least, ever since I turned off most of the forced video/post notifications & changed the option to occasionally I seem to be notified of Likes & Replies *_FAR_* more often! Which I like)
Except that wasn't the issue. The problem was that RU-vid started secretly cutting videos outof peoples' subscription feeds so there was no way to see all the videos from your subscribed channels. While that was happening, the only way to stay up to date was the activate the bell.

The people complaining about cap not uploading enough don't get the long haul he's going for. You don't get this quality uploading at normal RU-vidr rates. He's understands RU-vid trends, a lot more than the people with 10x his subs that will fade away eventually.
I watch every video this guy makes. They are always great, and that's why they take time to make. I wish he had more suscribers and more views, he deserves them. When I discovered his channel, I went to the first page of his uploaded videos and binge-watched them all from the beginning. I do not regret it.
Yeah. I'm really disappointed. I tried before to point out when he was being an asshole in the comments. But now he's decided to do it as part of his videos. I've actually clicked that bell--to remove him from the list of subscriptions I get by email. If he's gonna be an asshole, I'm not gonna watch his shit.

Gymnopedies no. 1 is actually pretty popular for a lot of RU-vidrs to use nowadays funny enough. It would be nice to see them use some of Satie's other works as well even if just some of the other Gymnopedies and Gnossiennes.

Sidney Law exactly. This is one of a kind. Other RU-vidrs talk about the algorithm directly and sometimes seriously. CD was able to combine it with actual content. I really can’t imagine the amount of work he put into writing the script and everything. I’m glad his Patreon is at least successful enough to sustain his work. I don’t know when RU-vid’s gonna start recommending his videos, I know so many people who would enjoy these but they just never heard of it before I sending the link directly to them

Hey, I like Sky Captain. Even if it's cheesy and dated, I appreciate the pulp aesthetic and what they were trying to do with greenscreen at the time. Apparently the director, Kerry Conran, wanted the movie to prove that greenscreen could be used by small studios to create big-CGI spectacles, and I respect the attempt, even if the effort was goofy.

Why don't more people use, and more content creators suggest using the "Subscriptions" page? On phones, it's the third icon between the flame, and person icons. On laptops and desktops, click the upper left corner to get the menu. You can bookmark the Subscriptions page. I do. When I go to my RU-vid bookmark, it takes me right to Subscriptions. I see ALL videos uploaded by those channels, not just what the algorithm thinks I want to watch.
The problem is the subscription feature is bugged to hell and back with videos sometimes not appearing in the sub feed and sometimes getting randomly unsubbed from channels you've been subscribed to for years. RU-vid help recently put out a video completely denying that this problem that has been around forever and well documented even exists

outsider344 I think it goes deeper than that. As they say, there's no smoke without fire. There definitely is something fishy going on. All evidence is circumstantial and debatable, but all of it put together paints a nasty picture and people aren't stupid. We know from this election that the media and the establishment is corrupt to the bone, and it's no surprise they won't go down without a fight. We know conservative opinions are being silenced and Richard Lewis makes a good point when he says that SJW channels and such aren't complaining about losing views and subscribers. I think the thing that these RU-vidrs complain about is that their content doesn't get on the front page anymore because of the algorithm, which affect their views. RU-vid pretty much controls what content gets viewed and is popular, but this time they decided that conservatives have no place in their progressive society.

I know it's been 6 years, but... I still feel like I haven't actually missed any videos in my sub feed this whole time, including firearms ones. I think they just get lost in the hundreds of videos there, especially if it's from a channel with typically boring content. I also never intentionally hit the notification button. If a video that is super interesting is missed in my sub feed, it almost always ends up in the recommended feed and I watch it anyway.

It took the *vaguest* hint of an accent for me to google you and discover that you're Latvian. I am SINCERELY impressed at how good your English is. Like English is probably the stupidest and most difficult language to learn (and I took Mandarin Chinese for 7 years), but honestly you have it down SO well that for a while I assumed those clues at an accent were just because that's how they talked in a certain part of Minnesota. FANTASTIC job, my dude.
...you realize that he moved at a very young age correct? Just because someone has a genetic origin of another country doesn't mean they have to learn english the hard way. If you spend a significant part of your young years speaking english, you become a native. Isn't that how literally every native speaker learns any given language anyway? Babies learning to speak their surrounding environment's language?
When the difference in accent becomes that miniscule, you cannot feasibly conclude that it's not because of pure ethnical differences (ex african american accent). Then, would you be saying that all african americans are NOT native speakers at english?
So even if you are trying to genuinely compliment, this can very well come across as dumbfounding or offensive. You're basically calling every 2nd generation american "NOT native english speaker" when all they have spoken their whole life is english most of the times.

Regretfully a lot of people that watch RU-vid are idiots.. also I think there are way more kids and young teenagers than any other age group watching.. so they are not looking for quality.. where do you think all those subs for PewDiePie are coming from .. I tried to watch a number of his vids to give him a chance but the guy is so irritating .. I can't see where he is funny... and he does that weird voice scream that sounds like an old man. Regretfully I think the way it works is there is a real bandwagon mentality... if people see that a lot of other people like someone then they will join that bandwagon even if deep down inside they think he sucks... it is The Emperor's New Clothes syndrome.

And the weirdest one that has the most is Eugenia... I can't remember the name of the video but every now and then somebody will send me a notification.. I don't look at her videos anymore because it is too horrifying but if you don't know who I'm talking about Eugenia is this beautiful young lady that most of us women would have liked to have been born looking like. She has such a beautiful sweet face and even though she already has a thin build you can go back and look at her when she was simply very thin and then regretfully watch her degenerate into a walking skeleton that is dancing and joking and you will be HORRIFIED.. you will see a beautiful face that is starting to look tired that is perched upon the skinniest body ,starting to resemble people from torture camps... and yet she claims companies are actually sending her free clothing to model and you will see her modeling them ;but recently she has become more clever and is hiding the lower half of her body but you could still see that she is a walking living skeleton and you can read all the comments of people begging her to get help and to go to a treatment center. Regretfully you will also see comments from idiots who tell her she looks great and that she is not skinny and they actually encourage her to continue with this Insanity by sending her Jack Skeleton momentos. There are even one or two other RU-vidrs who have spoken out publicly about how skinny this poor girl is and that she needs help and how we are watching a young lady slowly kill herself. I can't remember the exact name of her Channel but surely if you Google Eugenia starving or Eugenia skinny , Eugenia skeleton her channel will show up. Some people still tune in because they can't stop watching The Slow Mo train wreck . But it is a very tragic situation to behold.. because you know it's just a matter of time before you're going to hear that she is actually dying

I'm assuming that, without paying much attention, Cap just chalked them up to corporate viral ads (which explains why he says only the FIRST one impressed him).
Though if anything, the OK GO videos took just as much, if not MORE, work than these skiing ostriches, and it's a bit stupid to say that they didn't impress him, while this obviously faked ski resort ad managed to do just that.

I'm watching this video in 2022. I can't believe this channel existed in a parallel reality for all these years. I'm so happy I've bumped into it finally. And obviously I'm having a treat binge watching all the episodes. Every now and then I think: Oh CD, you're too good for this platform! Your videos are real polished gems thrown into the mud. But you made it! You have over 2 million subscribers and I believe this number will be growing and growing.
I dont think Capt D was recommending by RU-vid since everyone like someone recommends to them like me. I was on some debunking video 3-5 years ago cant remember, it has some bad explanation until someone in the comment section recommends Captain D which they say it have much better explanation and YES, i want truly entertained and keep learning from Captain D channel. I’m disappointed in the complete ignorance of how RU-vid’s policies have affected so many actual quality content creators in the last decade. Sure, long form broadly appealing educational content flourishes under the current system, but that isn’t all there is in this space. A group that was crushed by the change in the algorithm, notably the focus on watch time and upload frequency, crushed the financial viability of animation on the platform. Animation in general, by the way, not just low quality content farm animation. That, in fact, has only gotten more profitable. Independent animators, on the other hand, can generally only produce a single 2 to 3 minute video every few months if they want it to be of any quality, and the only way to increase frequency of uploads or video length would be to sacrifice quality and polish. As a result, the only way to have any viability as an animator on RU-vid is to constantly network your content on sites like Twitter to create a perpetual hype cycle and to crowd fund your revenue through Patreon to supplement the pitiful ad revenue provided. There are animators that pull it off, animators like Meat Canyon, but in the early days of RU-vid all that was required for an animation RU-vidr to succeed was to make good content, there was none of this playing to the topic of the week or constant cross platform marketing, it relied only on the quality of the content itself. Your narrow slice of RU-vid benefited from the changes, and many parts of the platform that were less savory definitely suffered, but the idea that the changes were more good than bad is just too narrow of a viewpoint to find reasonable.
Just stumbled upon this channel last night. Subbed and even turned the bell on. Lol had to unblock RU-vid notifications. This is the content I love seeing keep up the good fight brother!

I get where you're coming from, but I still don't like the fact that the thing that's meant to show every video made by every channel you choose doesn't do exactly that.
Congratulations! Your channel is the one I've ended up binging during this common cold that's put me out of commission once more! Your channel excels at everything, but I really do think the personality of Captain Disillusion is the best part. The justified cynicism, the nonconformity, the amalgamation of childlike wonder and adult actuality... I feel compelled to go on writing an essay of a comment here explaining all the intricacies, but then again I'd rather keep binging more of your videos.
This is how I felt when the Completionist complained / opened up about the poor performance of his channel. I tend to forget about channels that I find myself indulged in sort of randomly. Content changes, desires change, offered content changes... RU-vid isn't promised money.
There was this channel I used to watch that was like, a movie review channel. He used to do other things, like blowing stuff up in his garage iirc, but I think he started the movie review stuff to get easy views. They weren’t really interesting, just a guy in front of a green screen talking about recent releases & giving scores to movies, no really unique takes on the movie review format, but I suppose he got decent views. Eventually I kinda faded off clicking on his videos unless it was a movie I was already planning on seeing. After a while this guy started getting, like… really upset about the Algorithm in some videos. Saying that the Algorithm was burying him, not showing his channel to his subscribers. The honest answer really is - your channel is a fad, your genre is a fad, and in the long term all of RU-vid is a fad. Making a movie review series to chase trends and then complaining when people stop watching is like complaining that nobody watches Harlem Shake videos anymore. I unsubscribed from that channel soon after. I still occasionally see him in the comments section of better videos. I dunno if he’s still making movie reviews, or if he’s moved on to other trends.
