this intern is pretty whiny, you guys should have got him some cheese to go with it. anyone would be thrilled for the opportunity to work with a legend like captain disillusion! :D
It's cute to see how shy Alan is when he's not playing the character of Captain Disillusion. I'm glad he showed up to do this video. It was only a matter of time ever since he trolled Corridor last year.
Yeah tbh I feel like he's shying away because he's not performing something super f*cking awesome that would take a month of preparation like he always does lol. Just used to so much perfection and having to improvise on the spot
@Graphics_Dev you can definitely tell there's a progression from his first to his third talk, very unsure of himself in the first, much more secure in the Blender Con
@@stevbe1723 No. The first time he talked was him saying he wasnt captain dissolution because he was acting like he wasnt. The shy voice was him pretending not to be him but a shy servant of the captain. hope this helped.
Captain Disillusion is a relic of old youtube who's still just as amazing as he was back then. I'm glad he finally got the recognition he deserves. Edit: I didn't intend for this to seem rude or as a backhanded compliment. I should mention that I've been subbed to him since 2008 when my channel was made. The Captain along with Andrew kramer, real G's know about video copilot, are the ones who originally got me into vfx. I was about 12 back then. I'm now 23 and I'm working on getting a career in vfx!
@@blakebonanza I've actually been a fan since 2008. I was really into vfx with after effects and found his channel along with Andrew kramer/video copilot (you a real one of you know). I was only 12 when I started getting into vfx. I'm 23 now and I'm dreaming of a career in it
His Flight of the Navigator video is probably the most high-effort, polished video I've ever seen, especially given it's length. He absolutely deserves more recognition
yes, if only he didnt act so arrogant or smug about it when proving somthing to b a trick, a lot of the things he disproves in his videos were obviously special effects meant for fun and yet he seems to take offence and acts all high and mighty like a 5 year old when explaining how they are made
@@Z0MBUSTER cus wires are small, plus if they were big green screening would only work in the green screen room, but outside i they would still need to fill the place that the green screen took out and in the green screen room bcs the wires are thick they would have to still paint your body in witch is covered by the wires.
Craziest thing I learned here was that Captain Disillusion films all his videos in his intern's parents' house, while still keeping his production values among the very best on youtube
I don’t ask to contest your comment, but if you know any RU-vid channels that even come close to rivaling the levels of quality that is displayed on his, please let me know.
@@immortalhamster1645 Smarter Every Day Veritasium Vsauce Kurzgesagt PBS Science Show The Slow Mo Guys Only a few, there are a lot of high quality YT channels
@@minartson oh yeah I guess those are true, but I still feel like the visual effects in captain D is just way beyond what anyone else is doing on the platform at the moment. In terms of quality I could see how those are all on the same level, but the difficulty and time the captain puts in is off the charts.
I see Captain, I must watch. He's taught me so much about animation, and he's one of the few RU-vidrs where you can watch a video from 2011 and apart from the maximum available resolution, nothing has changed when compared to the video released last month. His dedication is inspiring. EDIT: Aw, just now I realized it's not the Captain, just Alan. But he seems to know a fair share of things, too. Nice guy... Maybe some time Captain will come over, too.
It’s SOO incredible seeing Captain D really find an audience the last couple years. I’ve been watching him since 08’ and it’s always been really frustrating to see the view counts. Well, the algorithm finally pulled its head out and he got his way over due.
CD is not just really good at visual details in his videos, It's his deadpan sense of humor and writing that go a long way toward making him such a good and effective educator. What an awesome guest to have on this, another of my favorite shows on this awesome (though flawed in so many ways) platform. Great episode! He needs tocome back again.
Here’s an idea guys - how about something where novice cgi artists can send you in a clip of something they have done, and you could critique it to point out what they missed, what they did well, what they could do to improve that particular effect?
I really appreciate the guest appearances. I've never heard of Cpt. Disillusion, and have now spent the past few days binge watching his channel. I have no idea how I've missed his stuff over the past decade... Just goes to show how crummy RU-vid's algorithm is!
I've been waiting for this collab since you started this show two years ago! Great seeing Intern Alan on the couch... reviewing my favorite film of all time, no less! 😁
Well if it isn’t another veteran of RU-vid. You and your friends’ videos were always awesome when I was a kid. I’d give you older legends medals if I could.
Can this be a semi-regular collab? I feel like CD brings a different perspective to how things are done and you all bounce off each other so well. I'd also love to see a non-react video collaboration!
This is my favorite so far. Listening to Captain Disillusion speak so candidly and wholesomely about his janky magic is quite inspiring. Added full to my little VFX fire.
Captain needs to come on more often. I feel like we didn't even really get that big of a taste of his knowledge. I remember finding Corridor through Captain Disillusion videos, so it's just a dream come true to see them together.
Corridor Crew finally made it to the big league! Even though CD sent his intern, this is a great honor and a sign of moderate approval from The Captain! Cherish it, boys!
@@Deliveredmean42 that's some dedication from Captain D! Looks and mannerisms so much like Alan the Intern tho.. Didn't know the captain was such a great actor!
I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that I didn't know of Captain Disillusion before, but within a minute I paused here and went and subscribed. What an awesome dude. I loved this episode. Now, I'll be spending the next couple hours watching him haha.
When I was a kid, I was seriously into magic and this video reminded me of something I learned really early on. Great magic tricks come in one of two flavors; The secret is either so obvious and easy that no one will ever consider it.... or so ridiculously difficult and complicated no-one would ever believe someone would go to that amount of trouble to achieve the effect
I would watch a whole episode on vfx reacts to captain D's videos. The amount of work he puts into his yt videos looks better than a lot of actual movies.
His advice for up and coming VFX artist’s is 100% true for all of the arts! It’s so easy to learn the techniques these days but at the end of the day it’s all about what you do with them. Creativity is everything!
Still waiting for this episodes part 2 where Jessica gets to speak for more than 10 seconds... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OqkRo17ZbbY.html
@@treibsandbohrer they did multiple episodes with Seth Rogen, Nick's dad, recently did multiple with Freddie, multiple with Scott Adkins, they usually shoot a few at a time with Gui and Eric Linden. So yes, it is true. Not every guest, but *usually*
@@ipraytovodka I'd say it's usual. Not every time, but typically. They almost always shoot multiple episodes at the same time with Gui and Eric, they did multiple episodes with Seth Rogen, Freddie, Nick's dad, Scott Adkins, etc. As the series has gone on, guests are usually for more than one episode. The first guests, not so much, but lately, it's pretty usual.
Alan's analysis of Fight of the Navigator is fantastic, and I hope he has another overlooked movie he plans to investigate. Something like Explorers or Highlander.
I'm surprised Netflix haven't contacted him and asked him to make a series. Their shows about the “movies we loved” are fun but CD does something very different. He’s been doing it for so long with only Alan and his family to help out so he may not know what to do with a budget and crew.
I just want to let you know, I couldn't stop smiling the entire time. So, so, soooo happy to see the captain with you all! Mad love and respect all around. Thanks for sharing, and take care!
captain d really changed the course of my life. now im going to film school and just excited to become a VFX artist and filmmaker, all because i found his channel way back in 2014. so glad to finally see him on vfx artists react
I realize that a lot of people are going to be introduced to the magically wonderful creations of Captain D. Have fun guys on his channel. Grab some popcorn while you're at it.
I'm no VFX artist, I'm an IT tech. I just have a deep appreciation for the vfx art realm, and actually educational while entertaining content. I've been watching Captain D since the beginning. I love that he had Amazing Randy on the show, because to me it's the same thing just different realms. I love the corridor crew for similar reasons. just a lot of fun and insight into things.
When Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon came out, my mother watched it with me. Half way through it she turned to me and said, "These are the best acrobats in the world! I can 't believe they can do these stunts!". I explained after and she was so disappointed.
Thank you so much for this epic video! Corridor Crew and Captain Disillusion are by far my two favorite RU-vid channels, and having both of you together was such a treat! This is officially my favorite VFX Artists React video now! Keep up the great work!
I'm glad you were able to collaborate with Alan! (To be honest, The Captain's attitude isn't quite as pleasant as Alan's) He's such a terrific artist, and has a deep appreciation for many of the same films as I do.
It seems like Alan has a calming effect on you... Well, he's a chill guy, at least way more than the real Captain Disillusion. ;) I wasn't expecting this collab, and it was very cool to witness!
In the next episode of "stuntmen react" you should take a look at the amazing stunts of late Jean Paul Belmondo in favour of his memory. He was quite famous for being one of the first, if not the first actor to perform almost all of his stunts and many of them are really impressive (almost to the point of being ridiculous by today's standards), so I really wish you would react to some of them. Especially since not that many people seem to be aware of his work nowadays outside of France.
@@rickardelimaa Yes for some scenes, the ones with the chips, and the ones with the green smoke message. Otherwise they did a great job of compositing and editing with the clones and the sets.
We need Ryan and Josh on the show!!!! (film riot - I'm sure everyone knows...) They are the OGs who have helped millions get into VFX (me included). Do ittttt.
I'd love to see Alan return. I've never seen his stuff, but now that I've been introduced I think I will. It'd be great to see you guys come together again in the future.
Fuck, seeing a flash of James Randy on that Captain Disillusion clip, I went to check how he's doing and apparently, the grandad of what Captain and the Corridor Crew do in reacting to videos has died just over a year ago. Granted, he lived to a ripe old age of 92. He'll be missed and should never be forgotten.
The "Amazing Randi" was the OG Debunker of bullshit artist and almost all but forgotten if CD hadn't featured him in a video for the young generation. I seen him when I was a kid make people look like clowns on national TV and have never forgotten the lesson he taught.
@@jimmydean8007 I also saw him as a kid but did see more of him in the 90's and 00's as many skeptics and atheism upstarts on RU-vid and other platforms included his mindset and himself in their videos and thinking. Penn and Teller were also good friends with Randy and they had practically the same mindset in terms of magicianship too. And they also did programs exposing bullshit and charlatans. People should know, Randy had a prize challenge to psychics and other paranormal claimants that started in 1964 and ended with his retirement in 2015 for starting at $10K and growing to $1M in the 00's. The prize was never successfully claimed while all these people needed to do was demonstrate their powers and abilities on camera without Randy or people like Penn and Teller being able to replicate or debunk them where they stood.
Man, the first Captain Disillusion video I ever saw was his debunking video of the pantry ghost video that was popular back in the mid 2000's. I was a child, man.
I don't watch these until my lunch on Monday, but let me tell you how extra excited I am that The Captain is here! (Or at least his chump assistant Alan. He's busy I guess)
I could easily watch 2 hours of this. So chill, so awesome. Alan is so shy :D and takes Nikos compliments so ankwardly Seeing these three legendary creators on one gauč (I dont know the english spelling) is RU-vid at its best Thanks guys
Fun fact about what they said about the gun in the doom clip being filmed separately, is that in First Person Shooter games the gun is also being rendered independently by a different camera put on top of the rest. That way if you clip the weapon through something, by being to close to a wall for example, the model will always appear in its entirety instead of half of it being behind a wall. (probably very well known fact but thought it was an interesting coincidence)
Finally, the crossover we've all been waiting for! I was afraid Captain D would never appear on this show after his own episode where he made fun of Corridor for having "exaggerated reactions" (briefly showing a clip of Clint freaking out) lol. Glad it was just a little joke and not him seriously disliking the Corridor guys, since I am a fan of both their content ;)
It never really occurred to me how insane it was to stand in front of the DeLorean as it was accelerating like that. If it didn't jump successfully they would have both died XD
It's very self-destructive right up to that point, the Doc has made a lot of failed inventions, and quite a few things have blown up in Marty's face. Then he makes some illegal dealings with the Libyans, to finally make the one masterpiece that actually works, or kill him and his teen friend before the authorities or terrorists can catch up with him.
Maximum respect to captain dissolution. May I just say the flight of the navigator VFX is outstanding and meant alot to me personally. Hats off to you sir. 🎩🙏
It almost seems weird having on as himself and not the captain, you forget how much of just a chill laid back dude he is when he's not hamming it up as the Captain.
When Eternals drops on Disney Plus on Jan 12, you guys should totally do a VFX artists react video! One of the most exemplary uses of CGI in recent years and was so visually stunning!!
I love all you guys from the absolute bottom of my heart. And if you'll allow it, a story with context for you... CptD you have been an absolute favorite for a very long time (sorry I was not subscribed... there was a very deliberate reason as to why). Cant remember where you were first discovered... maybe ebaumsworld or albinoblacksheep, one of those E/N sites where you were surely hot linked. The love of your work has stuck with me from the first moment your videos played... Which is my onewheel (or Segway) into my next feeling... CptD, without you, and that gift of love you've passed along... all the entertainment, KNOWLEDGE and joy... bolstering my already curious mind every time I watch a CptD vid. I truly believe I'd never have found Corridor Digital.. Corridor Crew... you and your team were and are there for me at a time I needed... something.. wasn't sure at the time (my dark ages as I like to refer to those years) what it was at that time but.... CD.. EVERYTHING you guys do... changes me for the better. I look for learnable and teachable moments everyday... you all continue to provide something I very much NEED (not just want) everyday. That video of Niko and how he manages people... *chef kiss* I'm in management... happy to admit, I stole from your "bag of tricks". NAY! You inspired me to be better. Thank you for always leaving things better than you found it. Thanks for being such AMAZING educators. I'm passing my love for VFX (specifically break downs) down to my kids. We watch movies differently now because of you all. As a single dad of 2, its not always easy to connect with children. CaptD and CC... Thank you so much.
Speaking of Back to the Future, I'd love to see you guys react to the visual effects of another classic science-fiction film from 1985, Terry Gilliam's Brazil. There are some really impressive and beautiful shots in it that I'd love to see you discuss.
You guys need to react to Arcanes in your next "Animators react". Been waiting to have your opinions (and hopefully Sir Koenig's too) on this show. As always love your work guys.
Captain Disillusion is probably the only guy left from the beginnings of RU-vid that has about -1000 scandals and dramas. Absolutely pure, hardworking good guy
1 mm is actually not a very thin wire. Fishing lines that are 0.5 mm can easily hold 50 kg, so if you have like 20 lines, each of them wouldn't need to be more than 0,3 mm thick.
With 40 lines (20 per side in the video i think) each line would need to support 4 to 5 pounds. Assuming Copperfield is 160 to 200 pounds. So .16mm fishing line would do it. but they may be using something stronger and more expensive than fishing line.
