Cosmetic needling (.3 mm) with Reviv growth factors is changing my skin. I have struggled with secondary milia on my cheeks for 2 years (C02 oblative laser for acne scarring that was too deep). Why does Dr Dray strictly forbid at home microneedling? I saw your name mentioned ALOT in her comments ( all positive ❤️ ) and found myself here. I’ve been using a dermaroller for years and I love the results.
I know it's a year later buuuut honestly, I don't like Dr. Dray, and I think the less people do at home means more people end up in her office to line her pockets. Every good product that I have used has always been totted as junk by her, but my fine lines and dark spots literally disappearing without a Derm visit say otherwise. I trust Penn more than anyone else.

At .25 2 times a week you are just fine (actually your routine sounds great). I would use those 2 cosmetic needling sessions to infuse as much hydration as possible. If you ever notice that your skin is irritated, dry (perpetually), reactive etc then I would back off needling until your skin recovers and then introduce needling back once a week. But if that doesn’t happen you are golden! I love it! ❤️❤️❤️

Love your dermarolling/microneedling videos. You’ve helped me get my skin to a great place! It’s interesting how opinions differ on doing this at home. I joined Reddit to discuss skincare a while back and one is chastised if they share that they use a dermaroller at home because the consensus is it’s not safe at all. I typically stay at .30mm, (I also use the Angel Kiss) or nano with my Deminuage pen and am safe in terms of the products I use and hygiene/cleaning as per your protocol shown here. I’ve yet to have any problems after a year and a half of microneedling. I love that you share a variety of products and also the safe use of devices. Happy Saturday ♥️
I agree, it’s definitely a debated topic! Cosmetic depths ( .3 and more shallow) are so fine in my opinion…. Medical needling should only be done by people willing to put the time and research in to safety and sanitation (sounds like you). ♥️ Happy Saturday back to you! 😊😊
How do you like the deminuage nano needling pen? I just ordered it after much debating 😖 because I'm not interested in needling to any depth due to not having time for any downtime.
@@Kendralovesskincare I really like it-it’s definitely one of my favorite devices. There is no downtime, and you are still getting the benefit of greater product penetration (I think they claim 20x greater). I have a regular microneedling pen too that has the option for nano cartridges but I still prefer the Deminuage for nano needling. I think it’s a gentle but effective tool and I’m glad I bought it. I hope you enjoy yours!

Radio frequency if done a lot can make the skin look aged because it diminishes the fat layer directly underneath which can lead to a creepy appearance. The biggest issue for aging is the bone loss, which is not just in the body it the skull. Vitamin K2 could be helpful in retaining and bone as it helps get the calcium to the bone. Vitamin C will also be d for maintaining bone and collegen.

I waited a couple weeks-that first week the swelling is pretty crazy (it was for me) so just do your best to stay positive ♥️ (that was my plan). Essentially you need to be sure that any sutures etc are ok with using your devices so a few weeks is ideal. I couldn’t wait to do RF and microcurrent! I did wait even longer before I did any needling. I didn’t want to add any inflammation 😊 I hope this helps!

Can you do a video addressing how you basically disagree with most estheticians in regards to rolling at home? I’ve watched you for years and I would love to see you do a deep dive on this topic.
I can’t speak to why other’s don’t advocate rolling at home. But it’s pretty scientifically sound and lots of Drs advocate it- Example-anteage, a well respected, in/office brand came out with a roller system for doctors to sell for patients to do at-home rolling. It’s a great way to prep the skin for in-office procedure (collagen induction). I think there’s a lot of misinformation out there on rollers- perpetuated by the pen companies. I just follow the science 😊

Yes! I had neck lift, deep plane (to match the neck-my face didn’t change much but the surgeon said it was necessary so I didn’t look weird…so I said OK! Lol) and I had skin only eyelid surgery. 😊♥️

I just ordered the NewA RF with your discount code. Thank you. I’m hesitant about micro needling bc I have lupus and I don’t heal quickly. So for me, I prefer trying the RF first. I already use micro current and red LED, both are helping but I need something to tackle the vertical lip lines and marionette lines and I hope the NewA will help those. I think that’s really smart. Are you using a retinoid? Vitamin A can help with lip lines. Also, mild peels might be really helpful for you around your mouth. The results are worth the dedication with derma rolling. I get all my information and rollers and some products from Gin Amber. Would not trust another one out there unless it was a clinical procedure
Yes, however smile lines are dynamic so collagen induction can help thicken the skin but we will (hopefully) keep smiling so the lines will persist. We can soften them though with rolling ♥️
Just an hour for the channels to close? I had thought it was 24-hours, but would be delighted to learn it's only an hour. I'm using (very sporadically) a .25 roller, which I'd presume, since it's smaller, would be the same amount of time. Amazing videos, thank you for all you do!
“Stainless steel”, like “surgical steel” is an unregulated term. In itself that term doesn’t mean anything, and I wouldn’t assume it’s medical grade. The most widely tolerated metal, which is implant grade, is G23 titanium. If you’re choosing one metal over the other you should know how they are graded and not rely on trade terms.

Then I made my way to your derma rolling video above. It seems simple, and not too costly to derma roll as well! At the end of this video, you mention also Radio Frequency, and Microcurrent. As mentioning yesterday, I am just starting out. I think it's realistic to say that I could microneedle once/week... but of the others - is there something else you would suggest while starting out? Hello. I am a 74 year old woman who has never used any devices. I clean my face, use some serums, moisturizer. I use Curolgy, the lights amount or I peel. I have wrinkles and sagging skin. I do wear makeup. Also my skin turns red when Very easily. I am blond and fair. Question, is there any reason for me to start this routine? I am not too much interested but had thought there might be a roller without the needles I could use. But once a week I probably could handle. What is your opinion. You will not hurt my feelings by telling me it is too late.
This needs to be updated. To avoid a collagen breakdown do NOT derma rol more often than 1’s every 2/3 weeks with 0.5 needle. Avoid sun 3 days, avoid comedogenic creams, avoid clogging creams, avoid retinoids or vitamin C creams for 3 days. Best get buffet or matrixyl by the ordinary. Let the skin heal properly. Do not dermarol over fresh scars or infections like acne. Don’t spread the bacteria 😉👍🏻 Good luck
I do say all of that in videos about deeper needling although it’s actually 4 weeks apart not 2-3 when needling .5 or deeper (this info doesn’t need updating….it’s not about medical needling). This video is about cosmetic needling- that is more shallow than .5 mm .2/.25/.3 depth (as I showed in the video a .3 roller). I have videos on medical needling (.5 and deeper) that go in to safety and sanitation as well as the time frame for introducing topicals in the days/weeks after. Thanks for being here :)

Your videos really made a difference in my skin. Question: Do you stick 100% to Dr. Setterfield who says that anything deeper than 0.3 mm should be done monthly? Some websites and RU-vidrs say that you can do 0.5 mm weekly. I'm slightly confused/ wondering if I should try it.
First, thank you for your kind words…they mean a lot to me! 🥰 And yes, I definitely do not advocate needling more often than every 4 weeks if it’s .5mm or deeper. The science is clear (in my opinion) that doing so results in too much inflammation, interrupts the collagen cycle and contributes to an impaired barrier. So less often with medical needling for sure! ♥️♥️♥️
I shelved my dermaroller when I had bad luck the first time around. Now I can’t find it. 😩 Need to start a search! My under eyes need it the most but was reticent to use it on paper thin skin.
Why bad luck? What happened? A lot of times when things go sideways it’s the products used with the roller. What depth did you use (if you remember) and what products?
Ok, I'm a 51-year-old dude who is COMPLETELY new to this. I've been surfing for nearly 40 years, and recently I've noticed some lines below my lower lip that bug the crap out of me. I don't mind the crow's feet and forehead wrinkles so much, but these lines make me look like a smoker, which I'm not. So, first question: is there a major difference between dermarolling and cosmetic rolling you mention in your other videos? Second, I've had dry skin my whole life, so I've used moisturizer for decades on my body and face. Would the product you use post-roll effectively replace moisturizing? Third, I surf basically EVERY DAY; would this affect my usage of sunscreen the following day? Lastly, if I did this every few days, how long do you think it'd be before I saw results, if any. Hi! Ok so there’s no major difference in rolling vs needling with a pen as long as it’s cosmetic depths . So if you needle a couple times week just make sure it’s to depths less than .3mm. You can still use your moisturizer and you can (and should) definitely use SPF the next day surfing (and even if you’re not surfing). I would consider layering hydration nights that you needle and before bed add a relatively rich moisturizer. You likely have a lot of barrier issues with your sun/salt water exposure so you should double down on hydration and moisture when you needle. Think thin hydrating serums with beta glucan, hyaluronic acid, sodium PCA, panthenol etc. Your moisturizer should have things shea butter, sqalane, ceramides, cholesterol etc. to lock in the hydration and feed your skin. 🙂 I hope this helps and keep me posted! PS results aren’t guaranteed (obviously) but you should see some improvement 3-6 months out. Sometimes sooner but also sometimes longer-just depends on your skin. I’m glad you’re here! 😀

Some rollers are around %20 and then go all the way up into the hundreds.Same with RF machines and they all claim to work the same.Then I also saw rollers versus pens🙄🤔 What do you think about microneedling the whiole body? Or even the lips? Do I need different lengths of needles?Also,besides saggin skin (byw, I rorally agrree with you about sunscreen- also don't forget to use the type that helps with rays emitting from your mobile devices, laptops,etc.) what do you recommend for treating the hands? I had questions about dermarolling and I remembered this video. Can I apply argiraline, Matrixyl, copper peptides, Tretinoin and moisturizer after dermarolling? Hi Penn, love your videos! Can you use any products after cosmetic needling? Is it ok to use basic serums/moisturiser from The Ordinary for example? Or are there any ingredients we should look out for that may cause damage with increased penetration? I have fair, British skin that is thinner than other skin types, transluscent and with less facial fat than other types. It is neither oily nor dry, but tends to react to most active or anti-ageing ingredients and becomes dehydrated, tight or easily over-exfoliated after a few days of applications. I classify it as very sensitive, though it is fine if I don't use anything but a basic skincare routine. I cannot use the following: Essential oils Ascorbic acid Copper peptides Snail gel SACCAROMYCES FERMENT LYSATE FILTRATE Alpha arbutin All direct acids Retinoids (besides The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid max 2 - 3 times a week). Mugwort Centella asiatica Possibly beta glucans. So I can't use any fancy (or actually effective!) anti-ageing products! I would really love it if you would do a video on anti-ageing protocols and product recommendations for those with sensitive skin please. :) Thank you so much for all of your hard work!

My esthetician said she does not suggest dermarollers because of the angle of needle insertion being at a diagonal and then the needle exiting in a separate direction. She said this can cause more damage than using a pen. Thoughts?

Totally understand and appreciate the concern! So here’s the thing-dermarolling is still used in-office by some practitioners. It’s just fine and the reality is the pen manufacturers demonized rollers to sell more pens…..and here we are 😊
