When I was a Skinhead in the early 80's I had so many old ska and Reggae records that I used to play all the time, that when my neighbour was selling her house she asked me if i could turn them off. She also asked my dad to turn off his Sam Cooke records as well. She didn't want people viewing the house to think there were blacks next door obviously. We told her where to go and turned them up.
I'm glad news items like this exist, because so many people especially ethnic minorities get the history of skinbyrds/skinheads culture so wrong. I've seen a few non white skinbyrds/skinheads in London, and I've asked them about their look and style, and they often say they get negative comments about it from other ethnic minorities telling them that they 'sold out' etc..
Original skinhead culture sprang to life when working class white British youth saw they had more in common with young Jamaican people whose families had come to Britain for jobs than they did with other white people who were not of their class. It was seeing past race to a solidarity with each other and the music was no doubt a whiff of fresh air and joy for their lives of hard work or being on the dole. The roots of this must be shown again and again in the future to young people so they understand this. Although never a skinhead myself I still had piles of ska records in my teens and twentys and still touch base with the culture as it gives me great pleasure to do so. Rock steady!

I remember being in Southend in 84 and these skins were calling us (casuals) poofs and ponces and posers . They was not saying it 15 minutes later when we run them off and given them a few nice slaps on the way. Let’s just say as nice as the 10 hole cherry coloured Doctors looked they could not outrun a pair of Sambas or Gazelles. Still the skins are chilled people on the whole and they hold my respect with their style music and fashion..
everettX It’s a shame I had to scroll down about 25 videos until I found one that wasn’t about neo nazis, but about SHARPS, Trojan, etc. I even searched for SHARP ANTI RACIST SKINHEADS, and still it took forever to find the first video and that was only 3 minutes long. I’m trying to find a comprehensive, concise, to the point video/report about the original, true, 69 movement. I just want to send a RU-vid video out to all my friends and family that don’t understand what it truly is, but I’m having trouble finding something that’s about 15-20 minutes to send them. I had a cousin call my mom about 8 months ago and told her “ I heard that Ev was really involved with skinheads” because she heard it from my sister who is mainstream pop type and she only 22 and has no clue oh yeah and did I mention I’m 37 years old and got my first pair of Docs when I turned 13 and my family is just now talking about this. I’ve always wore polos, cardigans, cuffed pants, big sideburns, and so on. I never wore the more militant look like bombers, bleached pants, sleeveless shirts, etc. not to generalize but you get the point. I'm american and am half Mediterranean and half scandinavian but take on more mediterranean physical traits, so I have darker skin and dark hair however, my hair has been sun bleached and is now currently a redishcolor. I'm wanna try to get the true original skinhead fashion back.

Im always out in the streets and like playjng music. When i play oi and people hear "skinhead" they trip out haha. Most people think skinheads are all racist. Even the new generation of kids that say theyre punk rockers (theyre emos) trip on me for wearing white laces on my docs. Theyre trying to bring back lace code. Im a punk but grew up with a lot of skins so i got a 2 toned style. Skinhead culture seems like its been generally untouched by mainstream trends.
It's fair to say that the British compared to their European counterparts were more educated and exposed to a variety of cultures and ethnicities from the 1700s.
No matter what you try to tell them about skinheads they won't listen. Because they'll be bias and believe what skinheads are from the movies and active movements that have occured through history.

There are approximately 7000 islands in the Caribbean and you ignorantly group them all as Jamaicans. However, Indo-Jamaicans, who are Indians and descendants of Indians form the third largest racial group in Jamaica and they accepted one another . In Trinidad and Tobago alone almost half of the population are full or partial Indians. In the 50’s and 60’s, West Indians and Asians were quickly united, they shared the same food interests. In fact, Asians provided the majority of the food that West Indians couldn't purchase elsewhere in the Uk. Please know your facts, before spurting out your suppositions or depicting a local incident and labelling it as global experience.

Think you better have a chat with some of the older Indian and Pakistani residents about the Original Lads, they got plenty of racist abuse from skinheads and Jamaicans ,The west Indians mixed well with their white counterparts on the same big estates and schools, and quite a few joined the ranks of the early Skinheads. although some will not always admit to it.

I met guys, there, who are Christian, and had 13 inch mohawks, and considered themselves as Christians. The Unchurch is a Christian church for people who do not feel welcomed or comfortable in a normal church setting. Not just skinheads, but, Anyone is welcome. My wife and I moved to a small town, in SE Arizona, with intensions, to start an Unchurch. The population, here, is approximately 3k, with mostly ranchers n farmers. I intend on inviting: homeless, plain folks, & skaters, etc., too! (When we get our house built, I'll begin with the Unchurch preparations.) 😉

So I'm American of Mediterranean (Spanish, italian and southern French) and Scandinavian ancestry. My physical appearance is more Mediterranean so my skin is a little darker. But the United Skins L.P wasn’t a Racist Album. & the Music & Lyrics are nothing but good old Skinhead Oi! Music. I hear what you’re saying. I was a young Skinhead in the early 1980’s. Skrewdriver had their own very unique sound. Twangy guitar, heavy drums and Ian Stuart’s gravelly vocals and defiant lyrics. As a young, rebellious and patriotic teenager, Skrewdriver meant a lot to me. As for The Oppressed, I liked Roddy Moreno too and The Oppressed sounded great 👍🏻 but Skrewdriver were legendary, unique, fearless and piss all over most wanky so-called Skinhead bands. That’s just my opinion, but it counts as much as anyone else’s. Now run along and listen to Boots and Braces 😁

why do so many insist that Skinheads were not racist, maybe not all was but many were, right from the start the original lads directed a lot of it at the pakistani and Indian communities, even a lot of Jamaicans were not keen on them much either, lots of west indians families grew up on the same estates as most white families did, where as the latter kept themselves to themselves and did not always mix that well.

Our Lord Jesus Christ was asked what it really mean to love your neighbor? So He told a story about a weary traveler who was robbed, beaten and left alone alongside of the road (Luke 10:25-37). That person was the Good Samaritan. We all know the story - a kind person stops to help another person. But it means a bit more. In the story, the traveler and the Samaritan could not be more different. They came from different cities. They had very different views. Some might even say that these two people would have hated one another. Yet despite their differences, the Samaritan chose to love his neighbor. Even though the neighbor wasn’t really his neighbor at all. Our neighbor isn’t just the person next door. Our neighbor is the person God has placed right in front us. And no matter how different, how inconvenient or how unexpected, we’re asked to love our neighbor well. 1 corinthians 13:4-8 tells us Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
