Finding the best baits for skipping plays a big part in being able to deliver the lure to the nose of the fish. I'd love to hear what plastics you've found to work?? Thanks for watching ;)
John, I just have to say thank you, for all you do for us novice anglers who have no idea on how to go about fishing with lures and soft plastics. I'm subscribed to a lot of RU-vidrs and your enthusiasm for fishing in systems that for the normal fisho is what we will encounter on a weekend, is to me... priceless. It's a source of knowledge that can only be gained over years of fishing in that environment . I truly hope that a fishing company has the foresight to offer you some sort of sponsorship/endorsement or deal. Yes it may not be some overhead action of popping for some giant GT in crystal clear waters in some far off untouched reef system but for the normal weekend fishos who only gets to target fish in their own backyard occasionally... it is extraordinary., The effort you have put in over the years to teach youngsters & oldies like myself the new art of artificial lure fishing is outstanding. My hat is off to you my friend, I wish you all the success that some of these others on RU-vid have had.

You've mentioned the Z Man Diezel Minnowz one of your favourites for jacks. But you say here that they are hard to skip. It'd be helpful to explain that. Thanks mate.
True mate. The Zmans are awesome fish catches but getting them to skip is way harder than most other bigger profiles. If someone is just learning to skip I reckon the bigger profiles will be better for casting accuracy and skipping than the Zman
how don't you get over runs on the bait caster reel when it hits the water what setting do u have it on, another great vid as usual cheers for the content it really helps my fishing.
Good to hear mate. I run only a single brake on my Baity... so much of it is in the thumbing as she slows down and a little rod tip lift at times to pull out the last of the line as it stops.
Nice vid John. I've been using the twist locks for a while now but have an issue with zman and other 10x plastics like squidgy bio. Have you got any tricks to make em stick? Cheers.
John can add his advice, but have a look on RU-vid for clips by the Salt Strong guys in Florida.They have one which shows exactly what to do - basically, you use a hook point or something like that to create an initial hole in the nose of the Z Man which the twist lock then gets purchase on when you screw it in.
Cheers Thor ;) that sounds good and I’ll have to check it out. I’ve made little Zman anchors using high tensile wire. They’re not anywhere close to a twist lock and a bit fiddly but did help. They were a bit like a tiny double hook shape for the head of the plastic.
Great Info. I would not have changed the hook - I would have used a small honing stone that can be purchased at a good tool stone; much better than a file especially on fine chemically hooks. I even sharpen my whiting hooks after a couple of fish.

I'm enjoying your vids and the information you're providing. It's great stuff. But... I'd like to see you catching more fish when you're doing the demo's.
@Threadie I'm aware of that and my comment wasn't meant to be mean spirited. But getting to the point of it. Show demo on how to catch fish, end result of lesson fish caught demonstrates effective techniques. Whilst John is not one, there are any number of people out there on RU-vid providing advice on any subject. I enjoy John's enthusiasm and no doubt depth of knowledge, I just want to see a fish caught at the end. I hope this explains it for you.
Hey mate I just picked up a coupla packets of ecogear balt and bought some of the 3.5" size. Have you tried the smaller ones for jack, the owner of the shop said he had 3 blokes come in and say they were the good on the jacks. O think they look bloody good. Would love to hear ya thoughts. Cheers
@@mylurebox great to hear. Yeah the owner said it was a new colour, had a really great finish on it, looks bloody good. Has a striking resemblance to mullet, a also got some 4 inch once in a red and gold colour
John could I ask how are you thumbing the spool when skip casting, I only ask because sometimes it looks like you really fire it in there with a fair bit of force. How do you avoid over runs/ bird's nests, any chance of the getting some close ups of what you are doing with the thumb. Might be hard to capture on normal film.
Hey bro. That’s an awesome idea. I’ll do that for sure. I’ve got a mount I can run a GoPro at high speed over my hand and see what the hell is happening at 120frames per second. Interesting stuff cause it’s all become just a feel thing. I kinda think I’m constantly putting some feathering thumb pressure on the spook the whole time to have control but I’ll get the video together in the coming weeks mate. ;) cheers

this has nothing to do with soft plastics more the hard body lures but how do you know you need to change hooks or split rings just by looking at the lure in the shop

@@mylurebox thank you for replying. Can you pls let me know what is the length and gap ( width) of 4/0 hook ? Trying to buy from AliExpress. But none of the hooks are given in 3/0 , 4/0 measurements. Its all in millimetres of there lenght and breadth. So pls , if u dont mind.
