Dray is one of the elitest defenders of all time for sure, in his position.. in this modern era, how he is guarding every dominating scorer, speaks for himself.. just today he won the game for gsw with his block. Draymond's defending is almost perfect.. it's just that his height doesn't give him any more advantages, still he does phenomenally well with it

Arguably the two best defenders ever, Wilt Chamberlain & Bill Russell, but Wilt was probably the better defender even in this comparison simply because he had less time to defend, because he was playing both ends of the court, 40 points and 25 rebounds was an average day for Wilt for the first six years of his nba career. Bill Russell was a excellent centre, but he never needed to carry the whole weight of offence on his team, but that's not to say he couldn't raise his scoring, mainly by dunking! The interesting thing is you could take Wilt & Bill out of any era and place them anywhere and they would be still top defenders, if the record books had their full stats, they would hold the two best Defensive positions in the nba record book! Plus MJ not anything exceptional, his best year 31.5 points a night. He also had six boards, 5.5 assists, 2.7 steals while shooting a career-high 53.9 percent from the field. Elgin Baylor best year, 38.3 points, 18.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists while shooting 43% from the field and 75.4% from the free throw line, that's excellent for a 6-foot-6 basketball player, who played in a very fast and physical era! Rodmans physically play was relevant, if he curbed his mouth he could have played very well in any era, but he would have been undersized to deal with the 1960s Bill, Wilt and Nate Thurmond, but he would have got his bumps and learned his lesson's and if he had either Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain as a mentor he would have been even better, rodman someone like a 20 point scorer, with defence to match!

Dennis Johnson/T.R. Dunn/Buck Williams/Jason Kidd/Kenyan Martin/Anthony Mason/…and Giannis. For the past 4 years Giannis is always in the top 5 for keeping his opponent to the lowest shooting percentage in his area. And Giannis is also the best help defender. Draymond also said he is the smartest defender. He should punch himself twice for both his blasphemous statements. Every great defender has the will/the pride/the hustle/and most importantly the mental game. Or maybe he is the smartest…he never takes the challenge of shutting down the best offensive players but instead he can roam and never be exposed. If you’re not familiar with some of the players mentioned by Shannon and Skip and also the ones I just listed…look them up on you tube and look at the challenges they took on head to head. A great defensive player tells himself “I got that guy and he’s getting shut down”. An all time great defender isn’t limited by his position..he want the best no matter if it’s the 1 to the 4. Or you’re Rodman and you’re willing to take Shaq because he feels he can battle him physically and mentally as well as anyone. Shaq definitely got his…but he knew he had a battle going. Draymond ask for Embiid or Giannis and you will be nothing but a cone..a turnstile..and even a sympathetic figure.
