I had a yellow Skoda S110R Coupe. Yes it was tail happy if you were silly but it was beautifully built and well equipped. Much better than the Austin 1300 I had before and also nicer than the Escort Mexico I had after.
Great to see - thank you for posting! I do find this ironic. In the late 70s, early 80s, the UK motoring press hated the Skoda with a passion. If they did a group test they always put the Skoda in last place. The press criticised the cars build quality, its ride, its noise levels, the seats, the instruments, even its door keys, but most of all the press criticised the cars rear-engine layout and, thus, the cars tendency to oversteer. But for every time a journalist said that the Skoda handled badly and could not compare to safe 'modern' FWD cars, the Skoda won its class in a race. Other car manufacturers must have felt a little embarrassed when the little 1.3 Skoda triumphed over their much more expensive and powerful models. And as the commentator said, when the weather gets worse, power counts for less and the Skoda's good handling starts to show.
Thank you for watching . It's very complicated to explain the situation regarding Skoda bad publicity . I can tell you one thing , I drive my Skoda's almost each day because they " handle to badly " :)) . We can say for sure that RWD Skoda cars in fact were some small racing cars that needed more than just an average driver :P .
@@KalashGarage I have also enjoyed the Skoda's bad handling for the past 25-years :-D I don't know how the press treated the Skoda in other countries, but in the late 80s, just before the VW takeover, there were several positive reviews on the RWD Skodas, and the things which were criticised before, either became good, or at least characterful, in a world of dull FWD hatchbacks. Then, of course, VW took over and with their "look what a difference we've made" campaign the old cars were again looked upon in a bad light. But we know better :-) All the best to you.
