Having been a badge snob all my life, its rather refreshing to think that the 3 cars I desire most are a Skoda, a Kia and a Hyundai.

I actually grew up loving Hyundai, because the Tiburon was just a gorgeous car. Nowadays my favourites are probably Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Genesis and Aston Martin (design-wise, not that I'll ever own one lol).

Ditto. Coming from Volvo, VW, Porsche etc, I was a bit of a badge snob too. For my next car I was looking at Hyundai, Kia and Skoda EVs. I like the Skoda but the Kia's 7 year warranty won the day.

Nice car (I test drove one a while ago) but the car you have here must be pushing £45K with all those options on-board and in Eco-Suite spec. I really liked it when I drove it but financially it didn’t make sense on my company car scheme as surprisingly an Audi Q4 at a similar spec to here was cheaper to lease so I ordered one. I do think though in lower specs it’s good value when compared to other EV’s.

I have had this car for six months (IV60) with the black .leather interior and its fab. It's costing me on average £3 to £5 per week in fuel compared to £35 per week in my previous petrol car. Charging is a doddle, drive during the day and stick it on charge 2 or 3 times a week while you sleep for 1 to 4 hours on the Octopus energy cheap rate, get up unplug and go. Takes 2 minutes to pug in and same to plug out. Would I go back to my 2019 plate BMW, nope. I have the pod point charger and you can Programme it to charge when you want or you can tell the car when to accept the charge. The heater is warm within a minute as there is no engine to warm up or you can simply go on the Skoda app and ask it to heat or cool the vehicle or defrost the windows. Love it.

We have had our 60 for 4 months, great car quality of the ride and finish is excellent. However the range is appalling . Skoda say about 255 range for real world and we get about 150/160. We use it to do school run local runs and commuting so not fast driving, but still rubbish range. Skoda say its because of the winter, but last time i looked we live in UK not Scandinavia so the winters are not that bad, it will be interesting to see if with summer air conditioning it is still as bad! We probably would n't have chosen the Skoda if we had known the range was that bad. Is it the same in the other VW EV's.

We started to look at this but speccing it is a right pain - and also a pain to the wallet - 100kw charging as an 'extra'? The dealer was an idiot so we didn't bother in the end!

The problem with enyaq is not the starting price but how much you have to pay for all the options you need, you should have mentioned the price of the car you are showing us too.

I agree, Skoda seem to be going down the Audi route where everything is an optional extra.
@johnmckay1423
@johnmckay1423 2 года назад
Agree on telling actual price for version tested. Skoda's price strategy is partly driven by the EV incentive payment: keep the list price below £35k and get the grant then pay for the extras. Usually annoys me but makes sense in this specific market.

Thanks for setting up this test Rory, looking forward to see your results down the line. Especially how you find the infotainment system. I've seen loads of clips showing how glitchy and unresponsive the display can be. Is Skoda taking care of that? Does it have OTA? A software issue is generally better than a hardware issue I guess, less hassle to fix.

But the base model has less range and I’m sure Škoda want positive press. It’s marketing, but you are absolutely right, I have bought the new MGZS which is affordable orable and has decent range.

Rory won't be able to choose the spec. The manufacturer simply puts a car up to test. Test it or don't test it. It's then up to the reviewer.

The days of new car ownership are almost over for most of us. PCP schemes mean that we will all in effect be leasing cars rather than owning them
@bankruptpensioner
@bankruptpensioner 2 года назад
@@GeoffBarlow I agree, but that generates a couple of problems which are prevalent today, 1, people enjoy cars that they can’t afford meaning they are financially stretched, and 2, no one now needs the intelligence to look after the mechanics of the vehicle they have. It’s sad about the 2 points mentioned but that’s they way things have turned out
@GeoffBarlow
@GeoffBarlow 2 года назад
@@bankruptpensioner Without a doubt. I'd much rather own a car than be stuck in a PCP scheme forever and a day. Aren't the base prices enough without me paying more in interest as well?
@johnmckay1423
@johnmckay1423 2 года назад
@@GeoffBarlow I've always let someone else take the depreciation hit and then bought for cash and run the car until it's dead. I now have a leased EV - instead of paying >£200 month to a petrol company I'm spending it on a lease. Overall monthly cost is lower and I'm driving a new electric car. I have the luxury of of road parking (so not the experience everyone would have, but something 70% of car owners have) and to my surprise have spent less time charging my car than I used to spend filling with petrol. Even away from home, I usually charge it when I'm doing something else - four mid-journey charges so far in 23,000 miles and 20 months.

I love the tan interior, so much better than the chocolate brown they used to do. I would be interested to know how durable it is. How good are the cooled seats. Also how reliable is the wireless Apple Carplay and the infotainment in general. Does it for instance suffer from the Apple Maps turn direction on the driver display bug that I experienced in a Polo recently where if you make a wrong turn it says recalculating and gets stuck and never recovers until you cancel and start navigation again (main display ok)

Definitely do a head-to-head with the E-GMP cars (IONIQ5/EV6), also taking into account the charging speeds and roadtripping capabilities. On paper the latter seem to have the edge with the faster charging, but I'd like to know more about the real world difference and what the Enyaq might have as advantages they don't, in terms of reliability, practicality, comfort, etc.

Skoda is no longer the “joke” vehicle and is shaking off that stigma of previous poorly built models nicely with the help of the parent company VW. This appears to be a really good alternative to others on the market but for me the price point still needs to come down to align with similar petrol vehicles
@Brian-om2hh
@Brian-om2hh 2 года назад
Far from a joke these days Maurice. I've owned 4 Skodas in the last 20 years. Every bit as solid and well built as a VW... And yes, at the moment prices are a little higher than petrol or diesel equivalents, but the savings on running costs over, say, 3 or 4 years will make that difference up - and probably more - easily......

Please test everything related to charging very thoroughly. Many car channels still haven't learned that charging can be a very different experience from filling up a petrol car. As potential buyers we want to know more than just theoretical charging speed and how long it takes to get to 80% (on paper). Will the car help me find a decent charging site that actually works, has enough juice and isn't the most expensive in the country? Does the car estimate range properly? Does it precondition the battery before arriving to a fast charging station? Will it piss me off by not managing to start charging 4 times out of 10? Etcetera. We don't all want to watch Bjorn Nyland to get this info.

Always have been a bit of a snob, prefering the Audi, BMW and such for my next future car but damn I don't know what happened but Peaugot, Skoda and Kia all made a very good comeback and they all real serious contenders for my next car but this Enyaq is so far at the top, with some extra options it is on the same level of functionality as a 85.000 euro Audi

Gotta say, those seats look very similar to the ones in my Etron... To the point where I wonder whether they're the same seat just with a different leather!!

There is only one think putting me off getting a Enyaq and that is the puny 1000 kgs towing capacity, otherwise I think its brilliant!

Most people don't tow Andrew, so it won't be an issue for the majority.

What about fast charging and has it a frunk ?
@tebitan3780

Nope, no frunk and it depends what you consider fast charging. Compared to the current bunch of fast charging cars, this is quite slow.

Makes not much sense to me, maybe for lower specs. This car is 45k ish and that is pretty much Q4 etron money, I think OTRP for my Q4 40 was about 48k. Plus not much difference for me as bought privately rather than car work scheme. Bigger for sure but I think the back looks a bit MPV like compared to the Q4. For sure a bit more space but not that much in it.

Hi. I would like to know if it is possible to recharge the car by towing it in regenerative mode?

You mustn’t tow any electric car!
