In this video I show you how I removed and refit the front drivers exterior door handle and lock barrel on a Skoda Fabia MK1 (99-07) which is similar to other VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda models
door barrel lock grub screw lock T20 unscrew max 4 turns approx 3Nm
Secondary security fixing 12 turns approx
1x cap (with hole) - 3B0837879
3x cap (without hole) - 3B4839879
4x door handle - 3B0837207

What about the passenger side door and rear door. On the passenger side front door I cannot see the screws in the holes and on the rear there is only one hole. Any ideas?

Yes, the drivers door is the master door so there is extra security presumably because the other lock are controlled from this point.

@@HatBoyHarveywhen putting the handle in, I can’t get it to sit flush to the door. When it is in and everything is tight the handle still wiggles around and isn’t in properly. Any ideas?

either damaged or you haven't located everything correctly or something is miss-aligned or bent

Hi Harvey, my Skoda fabia open door signal keeps on, do you know how can I fix it or where is the signal in the door coming from?

It is activated by the door catch microswitch. Faulty door microswitch or wires in door A pillar or the control module for that door housed in the motor unit.

Does anybody knows which rivets to buy to replace original ones after I have to remove door plate?

I've just found out that these can be converted to threaded bolts with threaded inserts a bit like pop rivets, but haven't done this yet. If I ever get around to doing this I will do a video :-)

could be a lot of things. Does it turn over? Battery? Fuel? check fuses, need more info ;-)

possibly O2 sensor or fuel starvation, vacuum leaks, MAF sensor. May also need EGR cleaning and alternator checking for charging.

Sorry I haven't mounted one, shouldn't be too difficult if you can get the right connectors for the car. I did look into it years ago with those intergrated satnav devices you can get and was told there maybe a battery drain issue if you contect it as standard so you need to consider that with the MK1 which apparantly isn't an issue with the MK2 :-)

Check the connections going into the door for breaks or then in the motor and catch inside door.

I should have listened more carefully.I unscrewed the wrong screw too far and it fell out! Still couldn't get lock out. Rewatched this and realised I should have turned the TOP screw 4 times and the BOTTOM one about 12. Did that and hey presto It worked. Replacement door barrel fitted, replacement grub screw added and BOTTOM screwed fully home and all locking is working. Thanks for the Video.

Thanks, great, up and running again, keeping the Fabi on the road. Never rush things; that's what my dad always told me and I'm sticking to that! Did you never find the screw?

My lock barell is spinning (I forced it too hard after it ceased). Is there a way to fix this?

Sounds a bit nasty, have you tried taking the screws out and then back in further or has something broke either on the barrel or inside? either way it maybe necessary to take the door panel off and handle backing plate to see what the damage there is and if it is at all fixable or not :-(

Oh yes, I remember, haven't used that term for years as I just replace the complete motor if they fail (start jambing or making noises). Will have a look into doing a video on this at some stage, thanks :-)
