In this video I show you how I removed and refit the Front Door lock on a RHD Skoda Fabia MK1 (99-07) which is similar to other VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda models
Inner door trim panel: • SKODA FABIA Door Card ...
Assembly carrier to door: 8Nm random sequence
Door glass clamp bolt 10Nm
door barrel lock grub screw lock T20 approx 3Nm
door catch bolt M8x14 N90846501 20Nm
Door lock OEM (rough guide)
Please check further with auto supply shop as there are many part
numbers for these and may have slight variations.
Front right DOOR LOCK 6X2 837 014 RHD
RADIO REMOTE CENTRAL LOCKING 3B2 837 016 RHD
Front left DOOR LOCK 3B1 837 015 LHD

My car uses M6 threaded bolts with a 10mm head x 10mm thread length. I would recommend using steel rivnut preferred. Be careful taking rivets out.

Thank you very very very much. Yesterday I replaced the microswitch in the front passenger door. With your video all went well. I used an microswitch from a old printer that I have dismantled. I had to open to the side, with the drill, one of the holes were the original microswitch fits. I fixed it with 2 screws, soldered the cables, and now it is working fine. Your video worths money. Thank you. The passenger door of my Fabia has that microswitch failure. The back door keep with that problem, but for preventing the auto lock with keys inside, I disconnect only the cable of the electric lock in the driver door. Now the driver door works with the key but the central looking keeps working for the other doors. This video helped for a future diy repair. Thank you.

I had issue with auto lock of doors, so I put a second key in a secret place underneath in a watertight box so I could use in emergencies. Got me out of a couple of scrapes so far ;-D

Thanks for the video! We had already hard time with that, once my wife was closed the kids into the car, with phone as well. Fortunately my daughter was able to unbuckle herself and press the button on the key(they didn't know, that they could open from the inside). So it was time I have disassembled and cleared the lock of our Fabia. The switch seems to work, but I have already got the replacement. I had no time to disassemble the lock itself, so I cleared only, but it seems OK. Maybe on the summer I will finish it. I bought the replacement for that plastic part as well, that is holding the lock in position. It was broken. It have to be dameged on the accident before we get the car. It hadn't been told, of course, but I found the first glass shards in not accessible corners after a few months(back in 2013.).

I changed both of my front locks, and i dont need to do all of that.but thats one of the ways to do. Just one thing, you need to isolate that door with new silicone because of the leaks. The front doors make leaks exactly like the rear doors. Hope you dont mind about this advice mate. Thanks for the share, stay safe, cheers from Portugal.

Good advice about sealing the front doors, but only if you continue to have a leak issue after sealing the rear doors. Just sealing the backs has worked for me. Fique seguro meu amigo :-)

Soou... you're saying that the rear boot lock is guided by that microswitch??? I've never been able to open my boot from the outside aaand drivers-side door locking mechanism has been shot since i bought the car waaay back when. Sir, your videos are PURE GOLD!!!

Thanks and yes, hope it helps you get you're boot to open, although this does depend upon all other locks being Ok as well as the boot solenoid mech and switch being good too :-)

If you watch my videos on the boot lock solenoid, catch and and button release handle then when you are happy yours are working, but still no luck with the key then the door lock is the next place to look :-)

I have an issue with my central locking on a Skoda Fabia 1.4 Tdi, going to replace the lock barrel but have a feeling the micro switch is at fault. Very informative video should help me out massively! Thanks

It will only be the lock barrel if the key doen't turn in the barrel :-)

Great video. Thanks. My mk1 back passenger's door isn't opening 100%, sometimes it does. Tried the punch technique, worked for a while, now it doesn't... Sometimes it works fine for a week, then nothing... Noticed once I had to open drivers back door first, then boot, then back passenger s door... So random it drives me crazy... Haha

Thanks. You could try some electrical contact spray into the lock, moisture seems to affect these to give intermittent faults as I've experienced these at times.

I actually dropped the grub screw in the door when changing a faulty lock barrel, so now i have to take it all off to retrive it, i have a telescopic magnet, hopefully that works

If I had a pound for the amount of times I have had to fix the locks on my Fabia 1. The knock off locks are quite meh, I tend to just use the microswitch from it. There are also micro switches inside the locks, though at this point I have never had one of those show itself as broken. Signs such as the car locking & unlocking randomly, and also not being able to lock sometimes (as it thinks the door is open) show the issue is with the lock, and likely the microswitch. A brilliant car haunted by poor locks and door leaks. (Leaks are best fixed with a roll of butyl) If you have door carriers that are riveted, that is a massive pain.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I have a similar issue but with the driver door: when I use the car key remote to lock the car it locks, but the driver side door still unlocked. Still I can't unlock any of the cars door with the car key remote. Do you think I can do the same procedure that you showed in this video but on the driver side door ? Obs! I forgot to say that I live in Sweden so the drivers side of the car is the other one :P Greetings from Sweden

Hello, i have issue with the open door indicating, or whatever its called. When i open the driver door sometimes it doesn't indicate that its open, on the dashboard, which also leads to not opening the interior lights, and also not reminding me with sound signal to off the headlights, when i am about to leave the car. Its this problem comes from central lock panel, or its some sensor somewhere else in the door, like the black rubber bump in the corner of the door for example? Excuse my English and lack of knowledge. Very helpful videos btw before helped me to replace the window lift mechanism

I believe this is the microswitch in door lock issue which should be fixed with a new door lock or microswitch, but be sure to check connections are good and wires going into door are OK :-)

Hello there! Nice explained and easy to understand, many thanks. I was hoping if you could support me with my issue. I have the same problem as described in this video, but I also have another problem which I think it is related to this procedure of fixing (not sure). The second problem is that the car locks and unlocks randomly, often happens when I close any door or when I cross a speed bump. Did you encounter this issue with your car? Thank you for your these Skoda Fabia videos, very useful.

Yes they will tend to do that when the microswitch is beginning to fail. Also there is a security setting that auto locks the doors again after a certain amount of time if you don't actually open a door. The microswitch can be a nuisance if you have left your keys in the ignition, shut the doors and it locks (I've done it 130mls from home and had to get rescued).

I would use rivnuts and bolts to dispense with the rivets. as long as you use the same size/type that is on earlier models and torque to speck there should be no issues. If you are going to remove the rivets and replace them then remove them by taking teh head of each rivet and then pushing out the remaining part so you don't enlarge or deform the hole. Hope this helps :-)

hi there i have a question, if i buy a new front right door remote central locking, should my original car keys still can recognize and send the same frequency as before or the central locking needs a tweak? if u get what i mean, cos my fabia has a prob with this right now, it's just the front door that listens to the central lock and none for both of the rear doors.

No need to take out the glass from the door: Once it's loosened, gaffer tape it to the top of the door. (You're more like it to break the glass when it's out of the door)

Passengers door is locked and door knob keeps down. Remote control (new battery) doesn't work in this door and unfortunately this door hasn't keyhole outside. The inner handle moves with the knob but it don't keep up.

First thing is to check the drivers side wires behind the rubber bellows is OK and not frayed and connections are reseated. then use the banging method on the outside of the lock barrel area: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-suB-n30YJHg.html then try spraying contact spray in around lock barrel and door crack where lock is. Then if still no luck the last thing is to take the seat out and remove the inner door panel (not easy) then metal carrier and manually move the levers until it opens. Once you open the door check the wires in the rubber bellows on this side and the connections and also the connections inside the door space, then replace the lock mechanism. hope this helps :-)

So, without central locking, the hatch can't be opened from the outside, It can only be opened by first opening the drivers door and pulling the lever..yes? Not had the car very long, so just getting our head round it ....:-))

Hi, my mum's Fabia has developed a new fault, possibly related to the front passenger lock mechanism. The key fob activates the central locking motor and I can hear it but, the door is not unlocking or opening from exterior or interior door handles. Pulling the interior door handle makes the indicator pin rise up, but as soon as the handle is released the indicator pin disappears again... As the door is "locked shut" I am assuming I can't get the door card off to investigate? Any ideas? 2007 Fabia Bohemia 1.4TDI PD. 114,000 miles. (The one in my profile picture lol)

Getting the door open is the first thing. Have you tried this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-suB-n30YJHg.html often works, may take repeated hard hits. If you manage to get the door open then take the lock barrel out and then the short plastic grub cable nipple in the handle attached to the short cable. This can stop the door from opening if it is too tight, it needs to be re-attached in a slightly more relaxed position in the serrated grooves to work. If problem still exists and the drivers door lock mechanism has never been changed then suspect this also as the microswitches within these fail through wear over time.

@@jcarr162000 the drivers side wears the most and if it is faulty it effects the other door locks. It is possible the passenger side is faulty alone, but only if the drivers side works. Also the wires behind the rubber bellows can also fray so that is also something to check, but obviously all these have to have the door open. You can get the inner panel off, but it is not easy, take the front seat out first and wind the window down, glove box out may also help.

Unfortunatly many more cars are becoming increasingly complex and puts the ordinary guy in the street off doing these repairs. If they designed the lock so you could replace the microswitch from the door jamb it would have helped. Would be good to know the dealer price for doing this? :-)

is the microswitch NO or NC ? .. i'll just put a classic one on the side of the door. cheap and easy .. just need to find the corresponding wire. if anyone already done this please share . thx.

Good question, I've never done it, but after a web search I believe the blue wire is no and red is common. no when door closed, nc when door is open. Anyone else to verify this would be great. Hope this helps

Bra fråga. En dörr låses inte när den ska, bilen känner inte igen en dörr har öppnats, en dörr låser sig automatiskt även efter att den är öppen och larmet går. De misslyckas på grund av slitage, så den första som går dåligt är vanligtvis förardörren, sedan passagerardörren och slutligen bakdörrarna. allt beror på användning. Du kan också se slitaget på mikrobrytaren vid noggrann inspektion. Hoppas det hjälper och översättningen är ok eftersom jag använde översättningen.

have a look at the wires behind the rubber bellows on the A pillar for chaffing and unplug/re-connect the connections. This could also be to do with the lock itself as if the micro-switch has failed the indicator would stop working - door card/panel off - new lock - reconnect and replace :-)

@@HatBoyHarvey Well the lock is working correctly, only the indicator doesn't pop up, it just stays jammed in there, I can't tell if it even tries to move or not because of all the other indicators that do work making noise. I'm starting to think that it could also be caused by a poorly fitted door card after I disassembled it, saw rivets, didn't have a cordless drill, gave it to a mechanic, he fixed the electric window, but I also think he might be the cause of the jammed indicator, not sure if it stopped working right after the repair or later.

@@HatBoyHarvey its been a while but I looked under the door card and oh boi I was terrified, the car alarm LED was dangling and the lock indication rod wasnt even there, micro-switch has worn out and the lock assembly is missing the plastic hanger so its only attached to the door. Its basicly a horrible repair and I have to fix all mistakes that were made by that car mechanic...

@@szynga take your time and fix one thing at once. You'll soon have it working again. I would fit a new door mechanism and try to find an indicator rod online. Oh and fit rivnuts and bolts.

@@HatBoyHarvey yeah, already went to a scrap yard to get myself bolts for the carrier plate (because now its horribly riveted with too small pop rivets...) and some missing screws that hold the door card. I found online those indicator rods, but I guess I'll just visit the same scrap yard for those missing parts, maybe even grab a working speaker if I'm lucky to find one :D

My skoda are skoda fabia sedan 2004...and have a problem with the driver lock door and change the rims. Im live im Panama and the rims are very hard to get😭
