Hi Jack! Been enjoying your videos immensely as I'm on a quest to set up my home "non-DAW" synth rig. Been playing 45 years (my first synth was a secondhand Jupiter-4) and wow, what Modal has done for $300 is simply amazing. That filter... :) Nord owes you commission, BTW. You more or less have sold me an Electro 6D 73. Now for that tricky "cash" part... Best, Ken

I got a 6D 73 last month, really like it, my first `keyboard` instrument as opposed to Synths. That along with my Prophet Rev 2 synth are the best bits of kit I ever owned ...... and that includes the Jupiter 6 I had back in the early 90s !
@Teleken1968

Noiselab Project You have great taste, or we have similar taste, or both. ;) I’ve been considering what I’d place atop an Electro for a home “sit and play” rig, and Rev 2 is one of the contenders, among the Minologue XD, the Nord Lead A1, and the Roland JD-XA.

Great demo! I recently acquired this synth and am trying to connect a Keith McMillan k-board via usb to the skulpt but doesn’t seem to send any power out to it at all. Connection is as follows... SKULPT > usb micro male to usb a male cable > usb a female adapter to usb micro male > KM K-board. I am thinking maybe the adapter is the problem but not sure. I noticed you seem to have the keystep directly connected here? If not, have you tried connecting any keyboards directly to SKULPT via usb? Is there a specific usb micro to micro I should be using for this type of connection? Any insight appreciated thanks!
@dani538
@dani538 5 лет назад
@Priscilla Gomez the key-step uses midi din that is connected to the skulpt. Yours has usb only. That can only connect to your computer. Use a midi connecter and midi din cable.

Some very nice timbres ... a 768 step recording sequencer ... polychaining ... an iOS app ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ MIDI? CV?
@simonnewton7057
@simonnewton7057 5 лет назад
Andoid app is great, too - works fine over USB to my Lenovo chromebook (which also powers the Skulpt). The app's not required, but really useful to see visually what's happening, particularly for synthesis beginners. Also MIDI in/out on 5 pin DIN (thank you, Modal). No CV, but it does have analogue clock sync which is configured to work with Korg sync (e.g. Volcas) and Pocket Operators. The distortion effect can get some really huge and dirty sounds out of this little box!

Why they din't show simple sequencer melody workflow. They always put arpeggiator in sequencer demo and i can't understand how robust sequencer is. I cant understand what sequence can and cant do, where all those hundreds of notes in sequence that they talked about. It is only one things that prevent me from buing this.
@fincorrigan7139
@fincorrigan7139 5 лет назад
My understand is that it's not a step sequencer per se but a midi note recorder. So you have to have perfect timing... bummer!!! I would have got it too. Suspect a firmware tweak would sort it but when would that happen I wonder?

@@fincorrigan7139 there is already quantise available now.
@fincorrigan7139
@fincorrigan7139 5 лет назад
@@jonfromtheuk467 OK so you can now quantize but when doing a 16 step sequence you still have to be very, very accurate, at 120BPM: you have 0.125 seconds per beat or a useful window of 0.0625 seconds to get it right. There is no step edit as far as I'm aware so unless that precision exists in your playing its repeat until you get it right if you can. Unfortunately it is not a step sequencer as there is no step input.

Skulpt or Uno Synth that is the question ....
@OttosTheName
@OttosTheName 4 года назад
Uno is good for the money and has a nice sound, but it's monophonic and far less powerful than this Skulpt. Skulpt has 4 voices, 8 bar sequencer instead of 1 bar, there's FM, there's a better delay, there's 16 times more oscillators so you can make huge sounds, there's wavefolding distortion (no analog drive circuit like in the Uno), 3 envelopes instead of 2, 1 main LFO + 1 LFO per voice, more destinations for the LFO, when it comes to modulation it's far superior, proper full size midi, much better battery life (5-6X?). I think the Skulpt is just about synth for almost anybody. Probably the most powerful synth under 500 usd. The Uno is a great lead or bass synth, but couldn't do everything. (Small downside: 4 lanes of parameter automation vs 20? lanes in the Uno which is unheard of in cheap synths. I think 4 is fine.)
@danielmulholland5869
@danielmulholland5869 4 года назад
@@OttosTheName my one disagreement would be to say that the microfreak is the most powerful synth under 500 bucks. But other than that great run down! Plus depending on how important on board effects are to you I could understand the disagreement.
@OttosTheName
@OttosTheName 4 года назад
@@danielmulholland5869 oh yeah I agree about the MicroFreak, it is lacking some things like modulation sources and fx, but it's an insane bargain, I forgot about that one somehow

AAs? Why not make it rechargeable? AA batteries makes it seem like a toy.
@WarrenPostma
@WarrenPostma 5 лет назад
Why. When I'm on the road I'd rather not have some custom freaking battery. That would make it into a brick. You want rechargeables, just put your own NiMH cells in. Guitar pedals run on 9V. Keyboards that run on batteries ought to run on A or C batteries that are available EVERYWHERE that civilization extends, most places, you can get such batteries at a shop that's open 24 hours a day. Pros that tour the world do not want freakin custom battery packs. A custom battery pack would turn this into a toy. As it is, this is both a great thing for teenage kids, and probably great for synth nerds who travel.

Buy two, and you have an 8-voice bitimbral synth with independent sequencers for $600. That's unbeatable.
@Wagoo
@Wagoo 5 лет назад
I suspect it's probably powered by a quad core ARM, and they've segregated each voice onto its own core.. but then found they had the headroom to pump up the oscillator count per voice to 8
@jonfromtheuk467
@jonfromtheuk467 5 лет назад
If you chained 4 up together that would be 16 voices and 128 oscillators for under £1100 - is there much else out there that does that?
@evildead2002
@evildead2002 5 лет назад
@@jonfromtheuk467 Wouldn't that be a bit hard to keep track of/control instead of just opening up the polyphony?
