Late 1975 and Skyhooks appear on Mike Willesee's show, and perform Million Dollar Riff. Willesee wants to take the high road of morality and falls flat on his face to the bands humour.
What time was Mike Willesse’s show on? I was 10 at the time & this is the first time I’ve seen this! Shirl is doing live vocals! Fcking excellent ✌️🇦🇺👍
Smut for me just because they sang about something that was not to be talked about plus coming from NZ those theatres were just not know about in the 70s.
Shirl was the lone pilot on a HELICOPTER, when a massive down draft smashed him to the ground. 29th August 2001. One of the saddest and greatest losses of all time and I mean in 4.6 Billion years of existence.
I can't believe the ODD ways Aussie lead singers die. Drown in your own vomit, brain cancer, not many suicides, etc, etc. And their always the bands you love..😢
I never saw any of their videos until the last year (I didn't think to search for them), but as a kid in the 70's I thought their music was awesome. Great to grow up to Skyhooks.
It’s actually an antenna for the blu-tooth guitars, so they don’t need any amps or speakers. A lot say Australia was late to get colour TV (1975) but we had blu-tooth umbrella arrays before anyone.
It was not live-to-air, it was not seen until several weeks later. There was a load of post-production was work done on the program master due to a loss of mains power taking out the video recording van.
Awesome Aussie band with the real Aussie culture now sadly defunct in it's own land..... go Freddie...... play that umbrella... great voice Shirl, great outfit Bongo..... what a great band and social satire.... Yeah !!!! .... priceless intro by Mike Willesee playing the straight guy....
Oh how I adored them back in the day. Thanks for posting this sensational clip -----All the best to dearest Redmond and Gregory if they, perchance, are reading this........xx

Listen to that guitar riff at 2.53 by Bongo and it sounds a bit like part of the song “Gloria” written by Van Morrison and recorded by The Doors. It has some of the characteristics of Chuck Berry too and parts of other riffs of other Skyhooks Greg Macainish songs too. That’s what made the Skyhooks such a great creative band. They were a great for guitar band that played good songs. The drummer is playing his umbrella here and singing backing and harmony vocals.
I've got to keep searching! (Searching! Searching!) I've got to keep searching! (Searching! Searching!) Cos I want money! (m-m-m-m-m-money!) Money! (That's what I want!) Gimme gimme dirty old money Give the money (That's what I want!)
I think Bob had spare tiles left... used at the Palais too and eventually our house at Osborne street Sth Yarra..well Bongos house. Recycling at its best.
Just wondering, Peter... the original clip of Million Dollar Riff (along with quite a few others) has been absent from RU-vid for a few years now.. I SO enjoyed reliving the experience while they were here; Do I need to go to my VHS "Right There On My TV" cassette in order to enjoy them again?
Yes not sure why some have gone awol. For our RU-vid page we tend to keep away from the obvious and clips . When we put together the Right There on My DVD release I pretty sure it was on that. It sold a platinum dvd award, so at least 15,000 dvds of it out there. ... or you could play your old video, LOL.
But they have more style. Not too mention, they were the first to point out that watching the evening news on TV was akin to watching a horror movie....this back in the seventies.
