This is a quick sample of a ride completed recently. I am working on editing a longer version for those that would like to see more of this portion of Skyline Drive. The other version will have no music, only the bike sound and occasional talking. This version is set to music as a quick sample.

Thanks for this vlog of the Skyline Drive. I'm doing the Skyline Drive and Blueridge Parkway next Monday and Tuesday. Driving from eastern Canada to Andrews NC on a 2017 Springfield. So this is very useful information on what the area looks like this time of year.

Thanks for the note. I did the other half yesterday and I'm working on a longer video. I probably take this road for granted as I've been on it so much as a kid and adult (in cars) and then a few times now on the bike. I wish some of the brush/limbs would be trimmed back to see more of the valley. I remember as a kid being able to look a lot more out to the sides and see views. It's still a nice ride to do and make sure to do the overlooks. Have fun doing both of them!

Skyline drive is nice if you want to just putt-putt down the road all day long. And depending upon the time of year it will probably be behind RVs for a lot of the way. Lots of law enforcement dedicated to the park also to keep you honest and observing the rather conservative speed limit signs. If you want a GOOD ride, that goes the same direction in the same part of Virginia, just detour to the west side of I-81 and find VA route 42. Same mountain scenery without the cops and the RVs. My favorite stretch is the Saltsville Highway from Bland, VA south to Saltsville. We rode that particular 42 mile stretch a couple of years ago on a weekday and saw NO traffic in EITHER direction! Nice pavement, good visibility ahead and great swooping turns that follow the valley topography. Try it and you'll never go back to the Skyline Drive. (Oh yeah, and it's free!)

Now I'm going to need to check that out too. I don't know that I've ever been on Route 42. Not sure. Will be checking it out for sure.

I've been researching this route. Sounds great. As a newer rider, I still struggle with very sharp curves and switchbacks. Would you say this has a lot of them? I've watched some other YT videos of portions--seems to be a few. I'd probably do the parts more north rather than down to Bristol but I'm still looking at options and routes on it. Thanks!

@@RamblinManMoto Oh yes, def check it out. More gentle sweeping turns than the mountain passes offer. VA 42 runs parallel to I-81, just on the other side of the valley from Skyline Drive. Thus anybody that's trying to get somewhere is on the interstate, leaving little traffic on the state road.
