That's one traditional we've always kept from our first cruise - is dressing up and going to the main dining room for dinner. Our children have now grown and started cruising on their own - and they've also kept up the tradition.
So happy to see you find a Cruising Duck. 🦆 We give some out around 100-150 ducks every cruise (I am watching your videos as I finish up the last of the crochet ducks I've made to hide on our upcoming cruise to Hawaii). It's pretty rare that people let cruising duck groups know that they found them, or share a selfie. I'll let my groups know you did! They'll be happy.
@@CruisingCanucks I've been watching this cruise and keep thinking to myself 'so noisy, too many people for my comfort zone, and jeez that food is such a let down'. Sorry this has been disappointing for you folks.
Thanks Jill and Jerry. I always enjoy your videos and tips. We have done Carnival a couple of times, and it is definitely not our favorite. After doing Celebrity and Holland, and the peace/serenity of that environment, it is hard for us to to go back to the “fun ship” crowd. We do Carnival when we can find it leaving a port near one of our homes and it happens to be a convenient time for us to go, but we are in our mid-50s and some of the stuff that makes Carnival popular is not so popular with us. We are doing a Carnival cruise in July that will be a 15 minute drive from one of our homes because it is a seasonal port. We did a 14-night Holland America cruise on the Statendam in December, we do an 11-night on the Rotterdam next month, and then an Alaskan on Holland America in September. Really looking forward to that one! It looks like y’all had an inside cabin for this one. Do you do that often? We normally do a veranda but considering doing an inside on one when we have a cabana. Any input you have regarding inside cabins would be much appreciated. Thanks as always! 🙏😎
Of our 35 cruises we’ve done 17 balcony and five inside. The others were some variation on obstructed oceanview cabins. Our first ten cruises were all balconies as Mr Canuck was fearful of sea sickness without seeing the horizon. Eventually we tried inside and realized that wasn’t a problem. The only challenge with inside for us can be the smaller square footage. Often we can get a little natural light and a little more room in those obstructed oceanview cabins and still have the savings of an inside cabin. One of our favourite rooms was a promenade facing oceanview cabin on Liberty of the Seas. It was large and had a view of the Promenade (but not outside). With Carnival behind us we are looking forward to trying Celebrity this year and enjoying our booked HAL cruises. We hope to be on Princess again this Fall. Have fun on the Rotterdam, it is a beautiful ship.
@@CruisingCanucks Thanks much. We enjoyed our 14-night on the Statendam and hear that the Rotterdam is very similar. After your awesome tip we booked a cabana for the upcoming cruise. You guys will love Celebrity! We were on the Celebrity Equinox for an eight night in August. We personally like HAL a little more because of the personal touches and (what seems to us) a more laid back crowd while not necessarily “old and stuffy” as most think. Celebrity was many notches above Carnival and just (very) slightly below HAL. Just our opinions. Enjoy! P.S. What does Jerry drink? Was it the Crown and Coke Zero or the CC and Coke Zero? Both bottles were on the video. 🍹😎
@@doughooks7411 The first choice is Crown and the backup can be CC - so that's great news that you found both! Looking forward to Celebrity, and funny thing is that the Equinox was a strong contender.
I remember about five years ago, the Ontario Tourist Board put out a TV ad promoting Toronto. In it two Canadians were making fun of each other's accents, one inquired what the other was going to do that day, and his companion replied, "I think I'll go out and about in a boat." The whole ad was centered around out and about in that fantastic Canadian accent. I loved it! Sort of a classy McKenzie Brothers, Great White North. BTW, when you go on Celebrity, you won't find any water slides, sky rides, but the food will be hot!
WOW! That skyride looks like so much fun! I'm not much of a rollercoaster person myself, but I could totally do that and the water slide. As for the food... Ugh. I know Carnival's never marketed their flagship brand as a luxury cruise line. Still, can't they put a little more effort into serving food in their main dining hall that doesn't look like it came from a school or hospital cafeteria? It's such an insult to the guests to have them pay good money for a cruise, only to serve them lukewarm waffles. I'm so glad you got to spend some quality time at Cabo and the Mexican Riviera, and at least we all have a better idea of what to expect on a West Coast Carnival cruise thanks to your intrepid reporting.
The ports were better than expected and the ship less than expected. This was our fourth Carnival cruise in 5 months - so we'd likely to think our experiences were not specific to a ship or moment in time, but instead of what is found across the entire cruise line. Sad - as it used to be much better.
