Just a thought to consider: in the past, AAA games cost about $50 to $60. A lot of people think this is still the same. I don't think this is actually true anymore. The reason, is because of things like DLC, microtransactions, loot boxes, and yes paying for mods. That's not even counting the expansions. To actually pay for all the content, you can easily spend hundreds of dollars on a major AAA title. So, in the end, those titles cost many times more than they used to, but companies have been using various gimmicks to keep it all less visible so that it at least appears to be more reasonably priced on the surface. Anyways, it's just something I was thinking about the other day.
didnt they learn from the fiasco with oldrim modforcash (years back) on steam? both valve and bethesda suffered reputational damage for that from what i read
I read from several commenters on youtube and reddit that it is 30% to mod authors/70% to Bethesda. However, the fact is Bethesda did it solely to make money and it limits the freedom as well as the creativity of the mod the moment it is put up for sale. Another fact, I WILL NEVER BUY MODS. I WILL ALWAYS PLAY FREE MODS, ALWAYS AND FOREVER.
Very well explained, also I think that adding a potential charge for mods is not the worst that could happen rn I mean, I sure don’t like it but it ain’t the worst. Again, very well said
They broke the modding. I put in my list & let it load up only to discover the game unplugs half of them & changes their positions too. Breaking the list every time. I am so disappointed in Bethesda right now. All of my simple framework mods keep disabling? I've literally been tweaking my mod list for 3 years & barely even played at all. It's ridiculous. On my Xbox alone I have over 1500 hours of straight mod list tweaking just this year.😢
It's okay to pay for mods, however I don't understand, why there should be something inbetween players and modders. I would rather donate through Patreon, than paying 75% of the donation to bgs, like it was with steam paid mods.
This is just the start. For NOW you dont have to charge for mods but they of course want to make it so you HAVE to pay for mods. Even if you give modders the option to charge for their mods, we already wont see a lot of mods like SIM, SIM2 of Fallout 4. Before there was the option to donate but you would still have access to it without having to pay Bethesda something extra. Well, now you propaply wont see it often anymore. I can also see them maybe finally make a new engine but make it way harder to mod the game. If you are a part of the programm they will give you the tools. Like CA did with Total war. They made it harder to mod their games. Thats why we havent seen a LotR total conversion mod. Nah man... if this really is the future of Bethesda, i wont be as excited as i used to for their game. It was always the Mods that made their games playable and i wont pay for it after already bought their base game + the dlcs. It is just another layer of paid content. Microtransactions in a Single player game. They can call it "mini DLC's" or "Payed mods", it is the same for me.
i am late to the party (this video) so i am just putting my thoughts here, not expecting someone to answer. I am not a Modder just a simple mod user and player. OK, maybe my logic is flawed. but Skyrim is still a single player game right? And if that's the case, everything sits locally right? Sooo what's to stop everyone just continuing to mod (in the full sense of the word 'to modify') the local files or keep using various list loaders? there is no way they can control this, i think.
