The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

Aldmeris is pretty simple, it’s Tamriel. The whole thing when it was in one big piece. That’s why Topal found it and didn’t recognize it. He’s never been there. That would also explain why the Dwemer were already in Resdayn when the Chimer arrived. They never left.

If Atmorans and Giants have a common ancestor, it's interesting that Giants have ears that are pointed much like an elf, while humans have distinctly rounded ears. I wonder what the reasons are for that. Did they simply become pointed over time? Did the original humans also have pointed ears and that changed instead? Curious.
@Xo-3130

Man and mer share a common ancestor. The difference is due to how they ended up on proto-nirn. The ancestors of mer were able to maintain a stable pocket of society while the anvestors of man were forced to wonder the world. The later found the former and wrre rejectef due to the effects of living in a harsh world that was only semi-stable had begun to alter them. The war that followed destroyed much of the continents and left the man scattered all over the remsining continents while the Mer were mostly confined to the remains of their realm.

Historical fact: Vikings built settlements on Greenland that at the time had a lot milder climate allowing farming in some areas. Then the climate grew colder and the settlements wained when people left for Europe until the last people left during medieval times. Another fact, the local inuits lived when the Europeans came and they are still there. They do not farm and traditionally they survive without much vegetables in their diet by eating raw meat and fish and thus avoid destroying heat sensitive nutrients. This is why carnivores animals do not need vegetables. It is likely that the needs eat a lot of raw meat and fish just as to our oen real world inuits do. This is why they could survive without farming.

"and he shattered the land into many" pangea confirmed in eso lore
@Endo9319
@Endo9319 4 года назад
It is possible that the Throat of the World could have once had some connections to places in Atmora, though the land shattered and split into continents that drifted apart. The eastern part of Skyrim and much of Morrowind is also very volcanic and active, so it seems like there could have been a great split. Also, it seems like a society as sophisticated as what existed in Atmora would appear to have had primitive agriculture, at least until the climate really changed. Such a society was also likely quite competitive, and it would not be surprising that rival clans, factions, and holds would seek to gain favor with such powerful forces like the dragons. There is also a bit of apocryphal information on Atmora, and they were known to have cities, a rather sophisticated culture (based on ruins), and skills with magic. It is also possible they had some primitive forms of writing and Proto-writing, as even the giants use glyphs in their camps. Much info appears to have been lost to time.
@Endo9319
@Endo9319 4 года назад
It is also plausible that some remnants of Mer and other Ehlnofey remained in Atmora, though they were likely driven into seclusion by Atmoran men and their own desires to live in seclusion. Additionally, it seems quite possible that some of the inhabitants of Atmora lived in mountains, caves, and underground. It is a possibility that Dwemer could have explored the continent as well in their quest for knowledge and power. There are a lot of mysteries to Atmora, and it seems like there could be a lot of power hidden away in the frozen land.
@MegaDuras

Okay, this may be a little long but I wanted to share something I'd been researching regarding the Skyforge that may connect with something Scott shares about the Nords being made at the Throat of the World. According to what we know, the Skyforge is very old, no one knows who made it but some believe it was made by the Aedra themselves and that they may have used it to craft.... stuff, we don't know what. We also know the Snow Elves and Dwemer feared the Skyforge and avoided it, but we don't know why (I have some theories about that but that's too much for here). Standing over the Skyforge is a huge eagle, this is interesting because we also know (according to ZeniMax talking about the ESO) that the Ayleids and Altmer considered the eagle to be a symbol of the Aedra, the divines, the same ones some myths hold may have made the Skyforge. What I *think* is that the Skyforge shouldn't have been located at Whiterun, but actually should have been placed at the Throat of the World. But it wasn't because Bethesda may have decided they wanted to use it for stuff in Whiterun so moved it there. But, if it was originally meant to be at the Throat of the World then the name "Skyforge" makes a LOT more sense and if it was made by the Aedra and used by them to forge stuff... like... Nords. Maybe the Skyforge was used by Kyne to make the Nords.

The shared ancestry with giants actually makes sense for Nords, because if you look at the general body shape and facial features of a giant in Skyrim, it does have a lot of similarity with a Nord man. It definitely would make more sense to say that these are the same species. Most likely, Atmora had people who were between giant and Nord size, probably a bit taller than Altmer, but very stocky, and over time, various people from this race bred specifc traits, with one group slowly getting larger and less intelligent, and the other slowly looking more and more like current Nords. This would have to mean that Atmora has the skeletons of many generations of people ranging between Skyrim's giants and Nords, if it is the case. as for how Atmoran people have two different origin stories, your explanation seems most likely to me. It could be interesting to have a small game or a DLC with some sort of visit to Atmora to see how things look up there. Archeological digs on Atmora could answer so many questions, even if the whole thing was centered around just looking at the place and digging through ice, it would still probably be good enough I'd buy that.

This is how I interpret the myth. The old ehlnofey that eneded up on atmora split into the giants and the humans, these humans were more like nedes then nords. Atmora's climate was like a continental climate with lush forests teeming with game. The humans had a hunter gatherer tribal society. Then the men owerpopulated as they do and the climate started to cool. The first men who left, who would become the nedes, represent the population at the time, they all were 'weak' like that. Those who stayed fought increasingly desperate wars for the dwindling resources, these wars favored the strong for this the populatin gradually became stronger and stronger. By the time of Ysgramor they have reached a state similar to the nords, but the climate kept cooling. Some sources say that atmora was subject of civil war and the first settlers of Saarthal were fleeing the war, this can be iterpreted as unending tribal conflict for the dwindling resources as Atmora's clime is turning into a frozen wasteland. In conclusion the nords are stronger then the nedes because of the centuries of tribal conflict they participated in for the resources of a cooling Atmora.

Humans are descendant from the Wandering Ehlnofey not Old Ehlnofey. Elves are descendant from the Old Ehlnofey. The Imperials were created from Wandering Ehlnofey in Cyrodiil by Lorkhan aka Shezarr as he is called by the Imperials, the Old Ehlnofey made themselves into Aldmer, Auri-El's children then Auri-El and Trinimac with the Aldmer fought gathered at the Adamantine Tower then at Altmora, Auri-El and his army, the Elves fought against Lorkhan aka Shezarr and his army, the Imperials. Kynareth then created the Nords in Skyrim to go and fight alongside their cousins the Imperials, Lorkhan's children and army against the Elves, Auri-El's children and army.

The original race, the very first on Nirn were elves. I'd like, in TES6 to get a dlc where we get to go to Atmora. The end of the Atmorian dlc we discover a strange metal plate buried deep in a cavern. The metal seems like it was part of a larger piece. The strange metal plate has letter, the letters read "U.S.S. ATMORA"

As far as Alduin/Akatosh/Auriel, I think of them as three parts or "Aspects" of the same deity. Alduin was the first Aspect, which is The End. Alduin persisted and devoured each spirit world until he was stopped by the conception of Akatosh, The Continuity. It was only with the birth of the final Aspect of Akatosh that history could begin, however, that being The Dawn, Auriel, who commands the sun and time rather symbolically. These three are part of an Aedric Triumvirate of sorts, making up the single god by their three parts, that being Akatosh, the God of the End, the Continuity, and the Dawn, and thus Time itself.

Dibella being associated with the moth seems like an consequential thing until you consider the Cult of the Ancestor Moth. They literally use the love of their ancestors to comprehend the true beauty of the universe In hindsight just makes too much sense. I can't believe how little credit I gave this god.

I think it makes sense that, after the creation of Mundus and the subsequent civil war of the aedra, Mara would switch to Lorkhan's side on principle. The ehlnofey who fought under Auriel were told they were created as a consequence of Lorkhan's deception whereas the ehlnofey under Lorkhan were taught they and the world were created as an act of love and benevolence. Which side's rhetoric would be more appealing to the goddess of family?

I do like to think that Kyne creating the nords would be her breathing the life on their lungs, like giving them the strength to shout. But the idea of Atmora being shattered across the sea is awesome as well. Oh, and perhaps that time when Orkey stole the nords' years is what made them smaller than the giants. Edit: I really wish to see how the deities fill in each of the other continents, especially Akavir and Atmora.

The way i see it is that the nords became modern Nords after kyne gave them the thu'um. If she did this on the top of the throat of the world, it could be said that this is how they came from atmora, but were still created on the throat of the world by kyne

Humans are not singularly descended from the continent of Atmora or the ancient Atmorans. Atmorans were just one type of humans believed to have resided in various parts of the world during the Merethic Era. Places like Akavir, Resdawn (Morrowwind) Tamriel all were inhibited with populations of humans and as such numerous in-game books eludes to this fact. MK hotly refutes this notion of out of Atmora in one of his archived post: Out of Atmora (07/10/08): And for the last time (uh huh), Nedes != Atmorans. That's just shoddy scholarship from a bygone regime.
@Super50ldier
@Super50ldier Год назад
Nedes and Atmorans are two different human races, the Nedes were created by Lorkhan aka Shezarr out of nothing in Cyrodiil whereas the Atmorans were created by Kynareth's breath in Skyrim at the Throat of the World.

Wild theory but. What if what would become the eight divines. Fought on both sides? Maybe they had originally fought with Shor. But would betray him in the end which is why he is caught and his heart ripped out and shot across the world? Like it would explain why men and mer would revere who they do. It's just a difference of time. Or it could be flipped and Auriel lost allies, though that is harder to explain considering that Lorkhan gets his heart shot away.
