In reality, the Thu'um would not have been silenced. The Thu'um isn't magic, as it does not depend on Magicka. Instead, what the Thu'um actually is interfering with the World Song, which forces things straight into reality. Its a reality bending ability that isn't refined. The Dwemer built their cities using a more refined and advanced usage of this concept in nothing more than a single whisper. Their metal was also made in this way, which is why no one can make it. Unless the silencing works on all sounds, the Thu'um could not have been stopped by it.

@@demonpride1975 Vow of Silence does not work on bosses, even though they specifically spell cast. Moonlight Butterfly is a specific example. That being said, the Vow of Silence specifically counteracts magic. The Thu'um isn't related to magic in any way, shape, or form. The Thu'um is sound which Vow of Silence, even in Dark Souls, doesn't cancel out.

Don't forget one of the players will glitch through the the ground and fall to their death. That happened to both games as well. Why can't wait to see if glitchy aspects are added to the game.

After seeing Arrow To the Knee and Ludwig's Moonlight Great sword reunion I really expected to have a full 5 second time out where they're both cramming their mouths with healing items

The dragonborn doesn't stop to eat cheese, the dragonborn eats cheese at instant speed. Probably did it several times during that fight, and the chosen undead didn't see it so assumed it was some kind of honor duel thing and just didn't heal.

It wouldve changed the tone of the fight

Theres a mod called execution, it adds more kill moves, including shouting people into ash

This actually is a featire in vanilla skyrim. Its nothing special, but it goes like this. So after shooting someone with an arrow, bashing them with the bow does extra damage, and it also works with shouts

It's this same OP ability that makes the dragonborn effectively invincible. Pause, chug 6 glitched potions that give 1000% immunity to everything for 1000 seconds, chug 6 more potions to cast spells and shout infinitely.

The entire reason the gods of Dark Souls want to prevent the Age of Dark is so humans won't be able to challenge their power. It makes sense that the Dragonborn, a former prisoner who fought against either an imperialist dictatorship or a fascist terrorist group, would want to end the reign of those gods. From the Dragonborn's perspective, the Chosen Undead is allowing the gods to enslave humanity. From the Undead's perspective, the Last Dragonborn is a Dark Lord trying to prevent their mission to save humanity. Let the First Flame go unlinked. Let true Dark be cast upon the world. @@Cloud-bs2knhe couldn’t. Beyond the fact that the Dragonborn was hundreds of times faster, stronger, and more durable, if he was ever desperate he could just use dragon aspect to make himself even stronger and more durable, or bend well to make the chosen undead give up.

I mean there was still nothing at all pointing to the DB being faster in any sense other than having time-slow abilities and a bow that can shoot absurdly fast, so that part ain't quite true. That and they kinda extremely high-balled their power levels by saying Alduin's practically infinitely strong, when in reality he'd only need to have dimensional level power in order to threaten a multiverse (cause well, obviously only one realm can directly fight him at a time). @@Steven-lz1vo

Its a gem of a game. Highly recommend it. May make u rage at times, but the lore is fasinating.

Its not for everyone. The game is incredibly difficult if you haven't played something similar and theres a lot of "backtracking" because some respawn points are quite far away.

Except the Chosen Undead are very experienced with mortality, sure they cannot die like you or I, but they live mortal lives and cherish them before they hollow. It's why so many seek a cure or go to impossible lengths to be remembered. They don't want what they perceive as their mortality and soul to leave them or be forgotten

Huh, true. Dragons land because they suddenly feel immensely weaker, that is the lore explanation for Dragonrend. It exists to give reason to why, exactly, the dragons land. But since Chosen Undead was already grounded, it would probably make him stop fighting long enough for the Dovahkiin to impale him with Dawnbreaker.

TES is pretty broken in all the games and if they wanted they could just say "uh well he uses reflect potions and alchemy + enchant cheese to become unkillable" but then the opposite of "well an undead who reached that high of a level and has everything just wouldnt give up" is also equally valid. Choosing to have a fight between these characters was fundamentally a bad idea imo.

@@valor1omega Not how the First Flame works. You can't just kick dirt on it and the Age of Fire ends. If you could, it'd end thousands of times over just from simple mistakes. The First Flame is more akin to Akatosh or Aetherius, in that it's more a force of nature than a physical object. You CAN snuff the First Flame if you're attuned to it like the Chosen Undead or a Firekeeper, but that doesn't actually stop anything, and the Flame of Disparity still exists. Also Vow of Silence doesn't just stop magic. It stops speech, since speech is intertwined with magic in Dark Souls.

*looks at Dark Souls lore as stated at the end* Quite true. Gotta say it would have been a different kind of "burnout" defeat than what's been shown in previous episodes.

Knowing the souls community, they'd probably keep going until the Dragonborn doesn't want to live anymore xD Using a variety of meme setups, learning about every frame of every ability and move the Dragonborn has, until he dies. Honestly, take the results with a grain of salt. The chosen undead only hollows if they lose their purpose. It's an open ended fight, but i understand why they made The Dragonborn win. The Dragonborn is way stronger, and the only thing The Chosen undead has is basically immortality.

@@GoatOfWar Suprisingly, if you look at the lore for the Chosen Undead(ds1) he does actually eventually go Hollow. The other two on the other hand, the Monarch from ds2 and Ashen One from ds3, it would be a different story. Despite what others have said, even if we make the Dragonborn an elf, vampire, alchemy, have them extend their life with shouts, and have the help in longevity from the Daedric Princes, the Monarch would eventually win but only because the Dragonborn dies of Natural Causes, because at the end of the game(with the DLCs) the Monarch doesn't ever Hollow(the Flame will still burn their soul to ashe eventually though I guess). The Ashen One however, effectively has a fighting chance not just because of what you mentioned before, but feat-wise they can stand toe to toe with the Dovakin(enough where its hard to say who wins). The Ashen one not just fought and defeated 3 other Lords of Cinder(what the Chosen Undead and the Monarch become after linking the Flame) and one "pair" who was planned to become one themselves(the twin princes), but the very Soul of Cinder itself(which is effectively the accumulation of experience and abilities of every Lord of Cinder ever throughout all of time). Not only that, but the Ashen One also beat the Slave Knight Gael, which basically is analogous to the Soul of Cinder, but for all Undead(due to having consumed every Dark Soul, except for the Ashen One's). If we chose the Lord of Hollows ending for ds3, its even worse because not only do you have the things I mentioned before, but now the Flame lies within the Ashen One and they aren't bound to the Kiln of the First Flame.

There is no cheese in dark souls. Unless we are talking about the ledge build, then there is a lot of cheesing going on.

If you read the item descriptions in DarkSouls, and the spells they can cast in game youll understand why the Dragonborn gets obliterated.

Yup. It also makes sense, too. Though, honestly, I kinda like that Boomstick has the ability to use the Soul Tear shout. How many months do you think it took him to learn that?(Note: For those of you unaware, any mortal can learn the ability to use the Thu'um, it just takes immense practice. Soul Tear is one of the stronger shouts, so it would take longer to learn for anyone who is not Dovahkiin)

the other issue is boomstick used azura's star and not the black star or a black soul gem. Azura's star cannot take a human's soul in it (or a "black soul" as it's called in game) but can take the soul of most other creatures. The black star and black soul gem can take a human's soul. Edit: as for the fight, it was a nice touch to see the black star being used.

me too, the dragonborn knows a lot of healing spells, maybe he didn't use it because his mana is limited while the Chosen Undead has unlimited resources.

Siegmeyer literally ends after his questline, right after his daughter kills him and he goes hallow. (Literally the only sad part of Dark Souls 1.) Also the Hallow that falls from the ceiling at the start with the key in it's pocket.

Chosen Undead defeated Gods who were mere shells of their former selves... also this wouldn't mean anything outside of the Dark Souls verse. This still pales in comparison to Alduin who was beaten by the Dragonborn.

The term "god" in this kind of debates where one looks at who is stronger is pretty much meaningless. Sure, a character with the title of god sounds strong on paper... Until you realise that god is just a title, not an actual way to measure how strong a character is. Not every god is on the same tier as other gods from other franchises and there are mortals in other pieces of fiction with overall better feats than the so called gods. For example, Kaguya has the title of a goddess. That doesn't make her anywhere close to Beerus who also has the title of a god. There is a clear cut difference as to which one of them is stronger than the other despite both characters being called gods. A character being a god doesn't define how strong they are when compared to someone else that comes from outside their own franchise.

The feat that is clear as day is him destroying a town, and it took an extended battle against like 20 nameless guards to do that. Plus TLD had a plot-shout to beat Alduin, and had 3 other legendary nords fighting alongside him. TLD would not be anything special in Dark Souls.

It's been like that for awhile admittedly, a matchup that seems fair and creates good debates from both sides until they look into the lore and obscure accomplishments and it's like "Oh, guess they could just obliterate their opponent by doing X, huh?" People that get all twisted over the results are weird though. It's a series that takes playground arguments and gives them a wicked animation, nothing more.

Can't blame DeathBattle either, cause all of the analysis and powerscaling is based on how accurate the lore is. If it's that broken then yes it's broken.

To be fair, one being an open sandbox RPG where the main character could be ANYTHING and the other being a strictly battle RPG where the character can only be a battle-[something], it's not very fair. The Chosen Undead cannot abuse Enchantment and Alchemy mechanics, and while I haven't played Dark Souls, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you aren't allowed to pickpocket people in Dark Souls either... Once I learned I could not just max my stats in an Elder Scrolls game, but break the stat caps, without hacking, just by going the Alchemy route... let's just say it's embarrassing when you can be playing a potion-maker and just buff yourself to be strong enough to punch an endgame demigod to death with your bare hands... Todd Howard, you definitely made a perfectly-balanced roleplaying game which has zero flaws or exploits whatsoever!

Dov-Ah-Kiin is, literally in dovahzul/ dragon tongue, Dragonkind-Hunter-Born. Or "Born Hunter of Dragonkind". The two syllable word Dovah refers to an individual dragon, while Dov refers to the species in and of itself. Dragonborn is more of a shorthand title given to Dovahkiin.

This kind of thing is always philosophically interesting. The last dragonborn's existence and ultimate feat were foretold long, long before their birth and even the very definition of who they are defines their way of life, and yet all of their actions in the moment appear to be by choice rather than destiny. It all loops around to the old existential dilemma regarding the nature of free will and destiny, and how they paradoxically seem to go hand in hand while appearing totally mutually exclusive.

Yep. Fortify resto loop. Become immune to magic, instant magicka regen, near infinite HP/magicka/stamina, capped DR, and infinitely powerful spells. A literal god in all aspects. Oh and your weapon deals so much damage that a paper cut will eliminate the target from all realities at once.

Visually maybe like in terms of character model. But go back and watch death battles like raiden vs wolverine or snake vs sam fisher, then compare that to like say...john with james bond and you'll see that although visually the models look better. The choreography of the fights has been lacking.

I honestly thought they were forshadowing the part they left out of the capabilities of the dragonborn and all the other Elder Scrolls protagonists: they are full on reality warpers of the highest order and as of at least morrowind the mods are straight up cannon...though much MUCH rarer in-lore than in the average random example from the game's playerbase.

@@matthewreynoso6904 that too actually but not what I was talking about, the main character having the capacity to do things like modding the universe at will is cannon. it gets said a few different ways in-game, usually in short references calling the world A Dream and you a Lucid Dreamer...which honestly sounds like nonsense until you include the fact that this is coming from various different entities all claiming to be Dreaming the world into existence, all of which are utterly terrified of "you" and actively working to mitigate the situation whenever something like "you" shows up. the stuff I've read personally instead of ran into secondhand is all from morrowind and oblivion so it hasn't gone too far into specifics as of yet but you seem to be running on almost the exact inverse as the creator gods, you are an Absolute Point that interacts with the world and builds out while they are all as vague and indistinct a thing as can possibly still be [A Thing] that interacts and builds inwards...in game mechanics terms the gods are existing and working from the side of the story and lore while the MC is coming at things from the game's code.

But the thing is, the Chosen Undead will keep reviving and trying. We see from Slave Knight Gael that an undead with a purpose strong enough can resist hollowing for as long as it takes for the entire world to be coated miles deep in ashes. The Chosen Undead’s purpose is to link the flame, and if the Dragonborn is the obstacle to that? They will die, over and over, until the Dragonborn makes a mistake or, well, gets old. The Dragonborn is mortal, the fight could go on for literally decades and the Chosen Undead will still be there in one form or another, while the Dragonborn dies of old age.

@@bezel95 Just one teeny tiny issue here. The Dragonborn has been given all his equipment, and the Chosen Undead is too weak to actually, you know... ...damage him. While on paper, it then comes down to the fight lasting until the Dragonborn dies of old age, "all equipment" does give him wincons. Mainly because Daedric Artifacts are ridiculous, lore-wise. Personally I'd put my money on the Dragonborn mastering Mehrunes Razor to the point of being able to simply remove the Darksign at a metaphysical level after at most 10-20 years.

A mortal as powerful as a dragonborn still needs to recuperate and eat from time to time, and theoretically if the CU keeps at it, at absolute best they could only get a couple hours of rest (if they somehow knocked out the bonfire, in which case they'd just respawn elsewhere). I suppose DB is still right in that it's a onesided fight, but given enough time, fate would tip the scales in the end, especially since the CU is extremely adaptive and cunning.

I got close to doing it when he got glitched into a mountain keeping him in place but eventually he got unglitched and flew away. The fact that Dark Souls games don't let you unlock a Dragonborn character after defeating the game at least once is criminal. The Souls games would be so much more fun if you had various characters from other games

While I don't know how the Dark Hand works due to never playing Dark Souls, by technicality, while the Dragonborn is physically human he does have the soul of a dragon, so would that even work? And if it did, it would make the Dragonborn more draconic than before, if anything, surely?

@@jameslidster9579 Magic Resistance in Skyrim Resist soul stealing. This can be shown when facing the enemy Seeker, they steal essence through the ghost of their opponents, and magic resistance reduces damage from their drain attacks. And if you got max resistance it basically does no damage. Also if Miraak with the power to just force souls out from dragons while they're alive by shouting didn't steal DB's soul when they fought I doubt some object the Chosen undead received from a character could do it.

@@FluttershyIsAGoddess - as I wrote, I don't know much about Dark Souls, but Jeffrey wrote the Dark Hand takes humanity, not necessarily souls, hence my confusion. That said, you're right about the magic resistance and Miraak's soul stealing power. I suppose they're part of what makes these kinds of death battles interesting, seeing how different powers with similar effects stack up against each other simply because the lore on how they work are different.

Not going to lie. That part gave me chills too and I was truly worried that Dragonborn was suddenly going to lose because of something. Hell even shortly after that he was crawling away to the flame while the one narrator was talking. I was worried that somehow he had one final trick up his sleeve. What a great episode this was

​@Witchknight As someone who doesn't like the gameplay of Dark Souls (I adore the aesthetic and lore of it though), I have respect for The Chosen Undead. He tried his absolute best and I did think he had a possibility of winning at one point. But I'm glad my boy the Dovahkiin is a cheese-hoarding death-machine.

That scene is so subtle, the dragonborn realizing that if he can hear the chosen undead, the magic of the miracles just wores off and he can use his thu'um again.
