When I was a little my mum and dad separated, me and my little brother would go to my dads, and at the end of our visit our dad would be getting ready to go out and getting ready to take us home, every time he would play this song, without him knowing I would turn my back and tears would stream down my face... I was only a little girl, the thought of leaving him would break my heart... I'm now 27 and I listen to this song every night before bed, I have also taught my 4 year old the words to it and she enjoys singing it with me. I'll always love my dad x
Your story touched my heart i am a divorced father of 3 children my youngest is a girl. We once used to sing songs together If I had my time again I would try to do it differently she went from loving me to hating me. She now wont talk to me.A tough lesson for anyone to have to learn.
That's beautiful. I have the opposite story, Dad left my Mum when I was 16. I always had a love for glam rock as a teenager (I have a Marc Bolan obsession, lol) but I always wished my Dad would love/care about me with this passion. I am 35 now, my Dad says he loves me but we're not close. And I always feel hesitation when saying/writing/texting 'I love you' back because I am not sure I do.
Noddy Holder was actually one of the greatest vocalists in rock ever. This guy could REALLY sing. Soft and emotional, but also raw and powerful. He had a tremendous vocal range, just unbelievable. This song brings me back to a time long gone, the spring of 1974, I was only 12. I just loved this song, and I still do. It's been 46 years... Time has gone by so quickly.
Now, I don't know how long I have got left on this planet, But I'm just so glad my parents had me when they did, back in 57, as a young boy, I caught the back end of Rock n Roll, Then the Beatles, the Kinks, Stones etc, Then in 71, Slade burst on to the scene. Man I had the best music education anyone could have had.So when my time comes to drop into the unknown, I don't regret a darn thang ! xx
Dude! I hope you have many more years on this planet called Zanussi or should that be earth not sure these day. I grew up in the same era with the same bands, magic times. 👍🏻😎👊🏻
My favourite Slade song. Saw them back in 1981 and they are still one of the very best live acts I've ever seen. My Christmas t shirt has Slade are for life and not just for Christmas on it😁
It is a beautiful song. It was written by Noddy Holder, bassist Jim Lea and Lea's wife. Impressive that they could knock out such simple but wonderful songs.
in another life Noddy must have been a heavy metal singer he has an incredible gritty voice and manages to make this song sound like a lullaby my favourite Slade song of all time and it hasn't dated.
Noddy had a unbelievable voice range, hitting that top C note ie 2 octaves range. The band wrote some brilliant music in the seventies which still lives on today. They were certainly not one hit wonders. One of my favourite bands when I was a teenager.
i grew up in england with Slade in the 1970s my my how time fly's so fast people injoy you're life coz NO 1 is guaranteed 2 morrow this makes me cry at least i admitted it
Fantastic, brings back memories of my childhood when I was living in a property in Wales called Gladstone villa with my mother and grandparents, as my grandfather Bill would play Slade's album, ''Old new borrowed and blue'' , this song was on it, my grandfather died in March 2014, this takes me back to him, RIP Granddad Bill, 1925 - 2014.
Noddy Holder . What a voice. Writing partnership. Noddy and Jim Lea. Up there with the best. Dave hill's guitar playing along withbDon Powell's tight drumming. Makes for one of the best 70's 80's band's Britain has ever produced. Well the Midlands. Slade, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest.
Ok?
I was 10 years old when this came out and I absolutely loved it..such a fantastic track... at that age I though Dave Hill was some kind of really Cool Alien..if you dressed like that where i lived you would get your head kicked in
