It’s so fucking funny that Bob got dunked on so fucking hard that this show was nominated for a fucking Emmy for this song.

I love how “He doesn’t like Tom Hanks” counts as “no reasonable person could construe as factual”.

I hope the miner that wrote “eat shit” on his check saw this. His little defiance has been amplified into the chorus of a musical number in Times Square. Amazing!

HBO should sell this song as a single in order to pay for the inevitable legal fees

"Told Hitler to quit painting and to find a new career" is probably the most savage insult I've ever heard about anyone.

Being one of their lawyers must be simultaneously the most stressful and the most entertaining job ever. Because on the one hand, John basically dares rich assholes to sue him every single week, but on the other hand, you get to hear things like “geriatric dr. Evil” and “a staff member dressed in a squirrel costume saying ‘eat shit Bob!’” read out loud in a courtroom.

That ending was 5 and a half glorious minutes of reminding us why he walks home with the Emmy every year.

I love this was basically Bob slapping John and saying “that’ll shut you up” only for John to pull a pro gamer move and swing back harder

"shit we have so much money from Game of Thrones." "what should we do with it?" "Let's let John Oliver just go absolutely hogwild."

That last scene cost half of what they spent on legal fees. HBO is sending a clear message that another suit is inconsequential to what they're willing to put behind the show.

Every time I come back to this(which is often), the sheer petty rage of “hey Bob, is this as bad as you feared?” floors me like a semi driven by the decomposing corpse of Bob Murray

The best thing about GoT ending is John Oliver inheriting their budget.

Remember the immigration piece, where John Oliver told us he was admitted to the country on a visa for a person with "extraordinary ability in the Arts?"

For anyone wondering, the guy playing johns legal counsel is named Brian D’Arcy James. He’s in a wonderful (absolutely hysterical) musical called Something Rotten that has the exactly the same energy as Johns song and is absolutely a national icon.

There's something about the song at the end that makes me tear up when the fireworks start going off. I think it's because it's so rare to see people like Bob actually getting a fragment of justice delivered to them, or maybe it's the fact that Murray died shortly after this came out; I'm not entirely sure why, but something about this just resonates deeply with me.

in honor of the third anniversary of bob's passing yesterday, let me drop you some truth for all those who think Bob let his beef go: No he didn't, he got killed off by karma before he could! this was posted 11 nov 2019, bob died exactly 3 year and 1 day today, oct 25 2023. He had an almost a whole year to see it. I am sure he did see it, but people say he didn't because he responded to any bad media about him in days of it coming out. But this time he did not, and it was not because he let it go...it's because he got LUNG SICKNESS COMPLICATIONS! HE DIED OF IDIOPATHIC PULMONARY FIBROSIS AND EVEN APPLIED FOR BLACK LUNG BENEFITS A MONTH BEFORE HE DIED, THE SAME BENEFIT HE HELPED DESTROY FOR YEARS. If you ask me, that last bit was probably the last straw for God, if you are a dying millionaire with wealth on the back of miners you fucked over for years and your first response to getting lung sickness was "let me get one last lick!", that would be how i would take you out. That or a cave in.

Every once in a while I find myself returning to watch the best episode of Last Week Tonight ever aired.

The most glamorous and expensive middle finger I have ever seen, never stop.

HBO: John, did you just spend more than two hundred thousand dollars on a piece about Bob Murray? John: Wanna see me do it again?

I love the fact that in trying to fet John not to talk bad about him, he led John to make a BROADWAY NUMBER ON TIMES SQUARE about him!

Imagine being a dancer showing for an audition and finding out it’s for this 🤣 they all looked so happy

I don't know how the show's staff convinces the executives to give them this much funding, but I hope they never stop.

I don't think I've seen anyone comment on one particular joke raised almost in passing: the online cartoon of Oliver with the glass-syringe-condom cake, and Oliver's wonderfully good-natured reaction to it, is just brilliant. "Nailed it; no notes." 🤣🤣🤣

I've had many discussions with friends about the best thing we've ever seen in TV or movies, and I come back to this episode of LWT every single time without hesitation. It's absolute perfection - daring, informative, hilarious, and endlessly entertaining. The fact that Bob Murray died of black lung due to his own shitty workplace safety conditions before he had a chance to sue HBO & AT&T again is just icing on the cake.

I just find myself constantly thinking about the casting call for those dancers. "So, what kind of gig is this again?" "Well..."

The absolute worst part is that I can only like this once.

I feel like John Oliver is a living representation of Chaotic Good.

The Mel Brooks-esque ending is simply… perfect. Noel MacNeal as Mr. Nutter Butter is the cherry on top.

Today is possibly my fiftieth time watching the last six minutes of this episode, and I still derive much joy in watching it as much as the day it first appeared over two years ago. Since then, John won a another Grammy for this episode and Bob is long gone an buried.

We call it paper terrorism and it's common in deep red areas like where I live (Ohio). I've pretty much lost my life savings due to fighting these types who use lawsuits to terrorize people.

I came back today to watch this once more because I was feeling like injustice and kicking the little guy were becoming the norm. So thankful to see this and vicariously live thru John yet again.

I see HBO's new legal strategy is to make the Justices of the Supreme Court piss themselves laughing when they see this evidence.

Never forget, Bob murdered archduke Ferdinand and started world war one.

Seattle had a very effective way of toning down frivolous suits. When the city got sued for obviously frivolous charges, they counter sued the plaintiff for the per hour cost of the city attorney having to deal with the case. Dude dropped his suit thinking the city would act in kind. It did not. And they didn’t have to deal with another frivolous suit for years. Hope HBOs lawyers see this 😉

John Oliver is a gift and must be protected at all costs

This is an historic episode. Don't think I've ever seen an individual get so utterly annihilated by a satirist.

They didn’t have to go this hard. But they did. And I’m so glad they did. Legendary.

You have no idea how badly I wanted that dude to actually be from HBO's legal department. Sadly, he isn't but a man can dream.
