The songs in order:
Lenny Kravitz - Are you Gonna go my way
Nirvana - Smells like teen Spirit
White stripes - Seven nation army
Michael Jackson - Beat it
,,He had an amazing ear for melody.'' Norah Jones
,,He had a touch most guitarists would kill for.'' Chuck Berry
,, The only person I have any respect for as a songwriter over the last 10 years is Kurt Cobain. He was the perfect cross between Lennon and McCartney...but he was a miserable fuck at the same time.'' Noel Gallagher (Oasis)
,,Cobain was a marvellous singer...I heard his unplugged version of that Leadbelly song and it was such a perfect vocal that I was really moved.'' Allen Ginsberg
,, I mourn for Kurt. A once beautiful, then pathetic, lost and heroically stupid boy.'' Pete Townshend (the Who)
,,That kid had heart.'' Bob Dylan

3:53 - Kurt Cobain, the sound of his screaming especially on something like Scentless Apprentice: "A complete celebration of insanity...such a wonderful sound. When I listen to it, I think about what it must have felt like to feel that sound coming through you. Incredibly powerful."

I'm a 100% pure rap hiphop fan. But NO ONE can deny the impact Kurt Cobain left on music, not even his genera alone, even rappers on multiple songs shout out and reference Cobain. RIP Kurt, your a legend and one of the few dudes in the music industry who kept it 100% real. On another note, as if I didn't respect Metallica enough they go on MTV and throw in that little Kurt Cobain tribute

It's really 3 rock groups that rap loves and respect heavy. Guns n roses nirvana and metallica. Hella rappers such as three 6 mafia sampled and got inspired by metallica, guns n roses shared their love for rap when it was hated most and hung out and made songs with nwa, and kurt as you said it all pretty much.

Actually i became a fan of Duff from Guns n'Roses because he seems the coolest guy of Guns n'Roses, and a few days before Kurt Cobain passed away he just escaped from the rehab Center and Duff was also in the same rehab Center place and the funny thing it's that they see each other in the same airplane and Both of them were in. Rehab Center to detox from opiods. Duff mentioned that they didnt talk about heroin in the whole flight. And Duff invited a Kurt Cobain over his house to chill out. But that never happened cause Kurt Cobain dissapear from Duff's sight. I'm Duff said that was the last time he Saw Kurt Cobain. I'm sure that Kurt dissapear from Duff because he was craving heroin and was having the heaviest withdrawals.

stuart luther Pop, EDM and eccentric Indie music like Lorde, Mikky Ecko and others like that. I think that's what teens mostly like these days. Rap surprisingly died out really fast and very sudden. It started dying out around the second half of 2011(it was still huge during the first half of that year) and by 2012 it already started to feel like a thing of the past.

Tom Petty was and still is a TRUE TROUBADOUR. He will be remembered for being a great human being, an amazing lyricist. When listening to TomPetty and The Heartbreakers the relation to the meaning of this bands music completely is relatable to most people. I love the era of GRUNGE but really didn’t connect to that label of this style of music. What it did in my view was completely energize us all. I simply loved it all. Alice and Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam will always be favorite bands for me. RIP Layne Staley and Chris Cornell. DAMN IT! We could have had so many more great songs from those guys.
@RastaSaiyaman
@RastaSaiyaman 10 лет назад
Here's a list of some the songs that paved the way for an album like "Nevermind" to get big. Guns N Roses "Welcome to the jungle" Which talks about the extreme poverty and cocaine addiction the band were going through, according to Slash' book, the band in the wintertime actually demolished a wooden fense of the appartment they were living in at the time in order to warm up the place by burning the material indoors because of them not being able to pay the heating bill. Metallica "One" Now Metallica were seasoned veterans, and already had several world tours on their portfolio by the time that "And justice for all" was released. But it was a stroke of luck that made this very unlikely song and it's eerie video the thing that propelled them into the mainstream. It certainly wasn't the usual "Unskinny bop" multicolor video that the MTV audience at the time was used to seeing. Red Hot Chili Peppers "Knock me down" Like Metallica the Peppers had been around for several years greeted usually with indifference, nobody expected their blend of rap, Funk and rock to work. This was the first song of theirs to be put on decent rotation on MTV and the first song that had people recognising them on the street. In Anthony Kiedis' book "Scar tissue" he recalled that he and guitarist John Frusciante were getting into a cab and the driver went "Hey you're those guys from that song 'Kick my ass' I love that song!" And that song is really dark talking about founding member Hillel Slovak's heroin-related death. Pixies "Debaser" If there's one band who already had the template on what Grunge should sound like, it would be The Pixies, the whole Loud-quiet thing and screamed vocals was already there. Jane's addiction "Stop" Now if bands like the Pixies were instrumental for Nirvana and other punk based bands to get big, it was Jane's addiction who made it possible for bands like Smashing Pumpkins to add Pink Floyd like long passages and solos in their work. This video also shows a scene from which bands like Pearl Jam came from: the Surf community. The Cure "Lullaby" Again, the Cure had been around for a long time before they finally cracked the USA. God knows how many goth band that's around right now took a page from their book when this frankly creepy nightmarish video appeared on MTV. Robert Smith said that he didn't think that The Cure was an influential band until Dinosaur Junior covered "Just like heaven" and in doing so introduced The Cure to an American audience. Pantera "Cowboys from hell" Now if the general consensus of the changing musical tide was going from "Let's party" to "Party's over" can be contained into one song, it could well be THIS one, combining the fury of a massive bar fight, the "FUCK YOU!" attitude of punk and the ferocity of a Gatling Gun. Metal was here to stay and it was more brutal than ever.

Perhaps Cobain envisioned a sweeping improvement in Rock music, starting with Nirvana, but little did he know that the "Grunge" wave would also gather up the normally giant group of morons along with it. The biggest irony for the end of this wave winds up being the biggest fans of his music became completely tone deaf to the quality music that preceded it.

It was called "smells like nirvana" and was by weird al yankovich. I just recorded on a VHS cassette one of the few times I watched MTV, and kept listening to it...till I knew it was a Nirvana song parody!

Anyway to get back on Kurt Cobain and his influence on killing off hair metal bands and early boybands like the New Kids on the block, people are still saying that when "Nevermind" came out that everything changed but I'll say that even before it got out, the music scene already was changing from "Let's party" to "Party's over" And it started as early as 1987 that Alternative rock and real metal (Not the LA sunset strip hair bands like Motley Crue, Cynderella, Bon Jovi and Poison) began to bubble up into the main stream if you take a look at the high selling albums that came out from 1987 until 1991 you'll see my point here. Because among them were: Guns N Roses - "Appetite for destruction" Metallica - "And justice for all" and "Metallica" (AKA "The Black album") Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Mother's milk" and "BloodSugarSexMagic" Jane's addiction - "Nothing shocking" and "Ritual de lo Habitual" The Cure - "Desintegration" The Beastie Boys - "Check your head" The Pixies - "Doolittle" Alice in chains - "Face lift" Soundgarden - "Badmotorfinger" Pantera - "Cowboys from hell" Sonic Youth - "Goo" and "Daydream nation" All of those albums already had the hallmarks of what made "Nevermind" such a huge succes. So despite what seemingly everybody says that Grunge happened seemingly overnight, they actually had four years of clues about the musical climate already changing but simply ignored them. I'd say the pivotal moment of when "Let's party" turned into "Party's over" was when Guns N Roses' "Appetite for destruction" was released. Because when it was released it fit the need of people who wanted something real: not the overblown "I screwed so many chicks" Hairmetal that was being pushed down their throats. Guns 'N roses in those days were a band in the vein of the Rolling Stones, not very gifted musicians with swagger and 'tude. "Appetite" was about drug and alcohol addictions, living in poverty, the ruthlessness of living in Los Angeles and the wrong kind of women. Even their big hit "Sweet child o' mine" had a very dark forbading tone "Where do we go now?" "Appetite for destruction" became a million seller almost from the get-go and in doing so paved the way for the other bands I mentioned to hit the big time. "And justice for all" would have been just another Metallica album if the single "One" hadn't been picked up by MTV and had people going "Whoa, this is different, I like it." which was the same reaction they had when "Welcome to the jungle" came out a year earlier. So while "Nevermind" wasn't the album that swiped all the overblown boybands and hairmetal acts away, it certainly was the last nail in the coffin.

Joe garza Yeah.. ummm… no. Metallica, great group they they were, have been alienating their core audience and losing friends for a couple of decades, coincidentally since about the early nineties. They essentially just tour the world cashing in on former glories now like a heavier Rolling Stones who haven't done anything good in roughly 35 years but the money 'rolls right in'. To say Nirvana are not "still influencing" is incredibly naive in the extreme mate :/ no statute of limitations on great music/writing.

@Ivan Del Rio Dude im just reading your comments and as far as Kurt goes, yea i loved the man as a musician and i feel he gave us some of the worlds best song writing but you seem to be way to infatuated with Cobain more than a fan though which is whatever you wouldnt be the first. But than you start bashing people who are praising your hero and these are actually great artists lol. Lars is one of the best drummers ever, Kirk is amazing and has made some of the best riffs and solos in rock, and the reason i think people have such a big fascination with him is the same reason why alot of people who have past in the music industry get these kinds of fans, and its because they past in there prime, and you always wonder what if they were still alive and because of there short visit in the industry left him little room for mistakes and bad albums, coupled with his musical revolution makes him iconic. But what if someone from Metallica past and they only came out wit killem all and ride the lightning, Eminem only releasing Infinite n SSLP, or Guns N Roses coming out with only Appetite for destruction ( Big GnR fan and Axl Rose fan by the way which will probably piss you off also) than these guys and bands would be also so much more iconic than they already are. And if your argument is "he changed music" but so did Eminem being the first white rapper, Metallica being 1 of the big 4 to put Thrash metal on the map, and Guns N Roses being accepted in the realm of rock on the sunset strip without compromising there sound, selling out, being real, which earned them the title the most dangerous band in the world, All im saying is I understand your affection for him but dont let that blind you to being open minded to other music and trying not to judge or be condescending because the pressure is alot, bands grow and change as well as there music and some say than there sellouts. We dont know but Kurt if he were still here might of made a move that granted some fans to not like his turn. Dont be so harsh on judgment. And to clarify i am an immense Kurt Cobain fan and do wish he could still give us music.

Kurt wrote from rage ....a rage he had inside.....you can here his primeval screams on many songs ..he had a horrible condition in his stomach..which I think the heroin eased the pain but he also struck they other side of the coin with wonderfully delicate tones and crafted writing.... Like listening to some classical music of Motzart or Beethoven.thunder storms then calm then storms again... The Beatles did this also.......a day in the life is a perfect example of this structure....

i'm sorry he's dead. but this 'voice of a generation' thing, i mean they were like the right band at the right time (wrong time, from his perspective). lots of equally good bands before nirvana and at the same time were ignored by the mainstream. suddenly, for a couple years, largely due to mtv, suddenly millions of people were interested in a legit underground edgy punk influenced rock band (that were on a major label). it caused me angst, like "this music is not for you", all these people that were casual music fans or just liked what was popular. after he died, before long, popular music became lame again and remained so. but, it wasn't b/c he/they were exceptional, it was a fluke. he was, however, real good. r.i.p.
