Thanks for the video! Idk about with Pro Tools, but with Studio one you can definitely add as many HW controllers as you want. I have an SSL Nucleus and the Raven works seamlessly with it for Studio One, logic and Cubase.
Excellent Review man, super honest and i always had that feeling too about the raven but on that format. I think the MTZ is far better as its big and you can really use the functionalities well hitting the perfect spot when touching as it is a 43 inch but 3 gz is expensive.
I agree..one point I don't make in the video is that with the dual screens, the mixer is never in the center. Mtz would be better for that, but that $$$ is crazy.
I agree. I use S1 and the Raven Core with dual MTi2's and I don't like the Batch Commander either. I wish S1 had a bigger button mode for the mixer, but other than that I have enjoyed the non BC touch screen workflow on my system.
Thank you for this great review. I am working with two screens for 20 years and just like you I always have my mix window on the right. I am pretty fast and accurate with the mouse and Keyboard. but I want real faders back in my life. I have switched to studio one now since 6 months (coming from prototools and sonar) Sonar I have been using since 2000 it was my first DAW it was called home studio 2000 back then. I bought that with a waves musician bundle and stayed with them for 20 years. My concern with the two touch screens is how do you drag something from one screen to the other. If that is not posible any more then it would really effect my workflow. I was doubting between the faderport 16 and the mti2 raven sreens. But I think I will go with the faderport. because I allready have two very nice screens and a desk. Your review really helped me a lot to make my decision and probably saved me a lot of money thank you so much for this. Subcribed and liked
The crazy thing is, I specifically remember writing reply to this, and somehow 10 months later I see this in my comments I haven’t replied to… really sorry. Yes you can drag from one screen to the other. These are monitors first and foremost. I haven’t posted a video in a while, but between you and I, my current setup removes one of my ravens and adds a faderport 8… lol
My first control surface was from behringer, and my boy uses the xtouch. I love it! There is no sound processing through the control surface so brands become irrelevant. Feature wise the xtouch series is killer at the price point. I only know the ssl unit via video so I can’t say. But I have a problem with spending so much.
Honestly, this was a great review that really helped me make the decision to order this. Subscribed. I've got a question though - how do you find it affects your workflow and ergonomics with the two screens being on either side of your mix position? Do you find yourself sliding over to be centered in front of one screen or the other and losing the "sweet spot" of your studio monitors, or do you try to stay in between and just reach over with your left or right hand? I'm wondering if I should be putting the desk off-center in the room so I can sit in front of one of the two monitors when I'm in my mix position, but then maybe I wouldn't end up using the screen off to the side much? Super interested in your perspective given your experience with the desk and screens.
This an awesome question. There is definitely an impact. I was used to the mix screen being centered in front of me. Now my position my mix is on the right screen and it took a great deal of discipline to get used to staying in the sweet spot and “reaching” to change the mix. It took some getting used to but I did get used to it. Also, I recently added a presonus fader port back into my setup. It’s a single physical fader, but for crucial volume and panning adjustments during the mix, I find it a big help. Since it is right next to my mouse, the temptation to move out of my mix position is almost non-existent. Depending on the OS that you’re using, and whether or not you are using the slate Raven mixer overlay, this may or may not be an option for you, But I found it to be a surprisingly good companion for the dual raven setup.
@@Callthatreverendmusic Thanks for replying. That's sort of what I figured. I haven't seen a lot of people talking about the issue of mix position on the Ravens though, so I really appreciate hearing your experience. I was actually considering adding a Softube Console 1 +/- its fader in a hybrid setup with the Ravens, so that I could have physical controls in a central mix position. Some people might think that makes the Ravens a waste of money, but the idea of being able to use a hybrid of touchscreen, physical controls and mouse depending on the task appeals to me, and the ergonomics of having the screens low and right in front of you makes more sense to me than having them up higher. But it's all just theory for me until I actually mix a session on this desk and there isn't anywhere local I can test that out, so I've been trying to think through the workflow and having some sort of physical control in the center made the most sense. Do you still find it worthwhile owning it, all these months after your video review?
Your video helped me decide to get the core station mti2 with 2 sidecars. I put station together yesterday, I wanted to ask you do I really need a powered usb hub running at 60Hz to ensure I get no lag and how do I connect that second raven to the first? Appreciate your help. Thanks
I have never heard about the 60hz thing, nor did I hear that you need a powered usb hub, but I wasn’t looking for that info either. I was going directly into my tower. Powered usb hub couldn’t hurt. To run the dual raven setup you need two video ports on your to connect to. They do not daisy chain to each other.
What up. Im considering desk with 2 ravens... I use a very capable Imac usually with logic and studio one 4. Im curious will I be able to operate with m y Imac or will I have to switch up my computer game because of connections etc.
Hi Chad, it depends on how many open Thunderbolt ports you have available. You would need two open ports how to connect your two Raven LCD monitors. You will also need two Thunderbolt to HDMI adapters. Thanks for watching!
I've been using the same Mackie Big knob I've had for the past 10 years. But I have been looking for a good replacement, something that Can fit where the slate control is supposed to go, or that at least works well with the desk. I can't put the mackie control on the desk because there isn't adequate room for the cabling
I like the dangerous music Dbox, the new model has blue tooth so you can use the phone app, nice for accessing from different spots in the room/booth/studio
To be transparent, this channel used to be mostly videos of music that I created. In the past couple years I’ve shifted from producing mostly for leases and sync licenses to situations that require a bit more confidentiality. I do however still occasionally post clips and share live videos of me producing on Instagram. @andrewcoxsr
Raven with Studio One in Windows = Only Multi touch screen no batch commander and STUDIO ONE SUPPORTS MULTI TOUCH OUT OF THE BOX IN WINDOWS. Cost $1000 for a single 24 inch I guess. Dell Touch Screen Monitor = Multi Touch in Windows 10, STUDIO ONE SUPPORTS MULTI TOUCH OUT OF THE BOX IN WINDOWS. Costs @400 for a single 24 inch This is no ranting or trolling. But why did you go with Raven when the thing for which Raven is so pricey is not even there in Windows plus you're using Studio One. Please tell me.
Good questions my friend! I caught them on sale, so the price to me was more like 650 each. Also I was using pro tools at the time of purchase, and I still do for some client projects. i started using studio one after I purchased the Ravens. I liked it so much that I made it my main DAW. Also come as I mentioned in the video, aesthetics are a huge aspect of my decision making. The Raven core desk solution is beautiful, and houses the slate monitors perfectly. That's another reason I went this route.
@@Callthatreverendmusic Thanks man. I actually planned to buy Raven. I was using Ableton then. Then I switched to Studio One and as I am a windows user, Raven are just a costly touch screen for me, sadly. So I went with one 24 inch Dell P2418HT and a Custom made 12 point Multi touch IR Overlay on my 43 inch Sony 4KHDR TV. I love the IR Overlay and the display. That custom touchscreen just makes the Already Vibrant Studio One even more Vibrant. I even use a custom Gesture software and made my own gestures (Basically copied the Raven Stock Gestures).
@@CHOKSTARmusic you're actually just paying for the software...my raven has been in storage for some yrs now..but i use the batch commander everyday though.
