Hey thanks so much for these great and in-depth reviews on the Raven MTI . I have been following the product for about a year and since they just started taking pre-orders for the Raven MTI2 I signed up for one from Sweetwater. You are doing a great job and your love of recording, technology and music really comes through in your videos. Very excited to follow along. Keep up the good work. Ken (Wrightster1)

I was watching this & wondered if the touchscreen has (what I think is called), 'negative feedback' on the touch. In gaming controllers, games have programs to add reality to the touch of the controls by adding physical responses from what you command. Things like: recoil on the button when you command a shot. I was wondering if there's a 'click' sound when you select a setting. Or a feel of sliders when you raise a fader?

Hi Dave, I'm really glad that you took the leap and got the Raven. Particularly since you're a S1 user. It will be nice to see your growth with the Raven and S1 together. I must agree that multi touch is going to be a game changer just as you mention in the video. And with Presonus now offering native support for multi touch it becomes even more evident. But I have to say that it seems that this could change things for Slate and the Raven. Although Slate and the Raven are far ahead of Presonus with touch technology at this point, Presonus has opened the door to alternative options. And they are only going to improve with time. How quickly they progress remains to be seen. I believe that Batch Commander is a big part of making the Raven experience a big draw. But isn't BC really a macro program on steroids at it's core? Macro support in S1 has always been a Presonus strong point and I see them integrating it with multi touch even more now that they support MT right out of the box. So it will be interesting to see where the Slate/Presonus relationship goes with these new developments. This is not a knock on Slate or an attempt to rain on your new purchase. I'm a huge Slate supporter and use all of his plugins. And I am still a potential Raven customer. But with the direction that Presonus is going, I can't help but to wonder how it could potentially change things. For you, I see it as a win win. S1 3 is the first DAW to Natively support the Raven and you can already rock the Raven with Logic, and Pro Tools with S1 and Cubase support coming as well. Plus you get the killer 3rd party plug in control with the Raven which is just awesome! And Batch Commander????? Yeah..... I'm totally jealous! Congrats Dave. Keep the videos coming.
@HomeRecordingMadeEasy
@HomeRecordingMadeEasy 8 лет назад
+Greg Staton Hey Greg - yes, you are correct and I will add that the Raven is really the first generation of this type of product in the audio world and like anything else with time Slate and I am sure other companies will improve on the technology and it will only improve. How long will that take? who knows LOL! I would agree that the real draw to the Raven, for me anyway is the batch commander and yes, it is simply a macro toolbar like in Studio One but it is so much more powerful in my opinion. Having said that, like I mentioned in the video if I only gain the "hands-on" the mixer and plugins that will be worth the investment for sure. That hands on feel is not only a faster way to work but it is also a lot more intuitive so even if certain editing functions are better suited for the mouse and tracker ball that ok with me. AND.....hey its a new shinny cool piece of gear so what else can you ask for right?
@strumlord
@strumlord 8 лет назад
+Home Recording Made Easy A shiny new piece of gear is an understatement. That's a serious piece of kit you've got there and it will be very powerful in your setup. I can't wait for Slate to come out with support for S1 3 so I can watch you put the Raven through it's paces. I expect it to be very imformative as all of your videos usually are. Good luck!
@RodneyD

I'm thought about getting this but its not the way of the future. Honestly physical motorized faders and encorders will always be the way to go with our DAWS Why?? becuase it just feels right. Touching a flat screen isnt the same as touching hardware. Touch screen will probably work best with track selections, opening plugin, and maybe transport controls. I mean it looks awesome but so does your monitor. You would've been more happier with and Ssl nucleus I garruantee it. I'm glad you sold it.

I wanted to thank you for your detailed and honest reviews of Raven and Logic. As a 35 year professional video editor facebook.com/tom.daigon I know how important GUIs are for my creativity and comfort. As a musician in it only for the fun, these are also important features. Speeding up my work flow is not really a concern. Your information on the difficulty in "grabbing" a variety of items made me think twice. I actually like the keyboard/mouse controllers and dont care for Ipads. The when I realized that I had only 1 USB-2 available on my Mac Mini (others in use) and Raven needed 2 (1 for the touch screen functions and 1 for the Dongle (which as an Avid editor I had learn to hate in the past) I cancelled my order for the Raven. I do like the latest high tech stuff, but in this case it didnt seem to serve my needs or system. Thanks!
@HomeRecordingMadeEasy
@HomeRecordingMadeEasy 8 лет назад
+Tom Daigon Hi Tom - Thanks for the support. I actually ended up selling my Raven as well. I was going to post a video on why I ended up getting rid of it but I thought it would cause more of a stir then what is was worth so I just let the topic go. In the end I think it's a wonderful technology but the DAW's are just not set up for a full on touch screen system in my opinion and it became so frustrating that after two months I sold it and lost a bunch of money on it. Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained I guess. I still love playing with new gear and most times its not a bust like the Raven ended up being
@tomdaigon8707
@tomdaigon8707 8 лет назад
+Home Recording Made Easy LOL! Im glad you were able to share that with me since it further confirms my feeling about that technology, in respect to my use of it. Each to their own. Keep up the good work, even if it is without touch screen tech in your studio ;)
@phoenixbenjamin
@phoenixbenjamin 3 года назад
My opinion you did not consider the fact. You were only taking a screen & making judgment on the tech when your studio was not up to spec. You can’t cut corners. I see you mentioned the dongle issue, well that’s not a issue now that ilok is on the cloud. Adding a touch screen won’t make magic. If you have a complete system it’s hands down on top of the world. Just have to get out of your comfort zone and learn new trix. Slate did trickle out hardware and screen & plugins in a kind of crazy way and having all of us wait years, but as I say that now that the complete system is available it is a game changer. I bought the screen first also thinking the same thing, got frustrated. Like I said parts don’t make things easier, it’s the complete system. In my studio I have Protools HD System & now added 2 Slate Ravens control desk & 24 track VRS8 complete package. It is a game changer. Very high tech and sometimes I may need a specialist come in and show me something. But after that nothing is unreachable. And it’s amazing. Looking forward to the future and embracing it.

thanks for the great video!!! I'm not so much a mixing engineer(although i do some) as i am a musician and love to create music, and the Raven looks super cool for that. i also really just love the idea of getting away from the mouse because i have issues with tingling in my arm from using the mouse so much. Besides making batch commands for those things you find difficult you could still use keyboard commands, no? like in pro tools i'm constantly using the key commands to zoom in and out. I guess you always have that option.
