As the quintessential medium sized high quality freestone wild/native trout stream in north central Pennsylvania, Slate Run is a gorgeous (albeit frustratingly difficult) stream. Having limited success fly fishing Slate Run previously, I decided to give it one more college try. Fishing the main stem as well as a tributary, we managed to catch two solid Wild Browns as well as some Native Brookies. In addition, we saw a mother black bear and cub at close range (20 yards). As I slowly progress as a fly fisherman, I am continually drawn to this stream for its difficulty in catching fish, its aesthetic beauty, and of course, the quality naturally reproducing trout. Good for me.
