We are so excited to celebrate Black History Month with you, and feature one of the most important structures in the city of Natchez, Mississippi! Welcome to our historic home tour of Concord Quarters, former slave dwelling of Concord Plantation. Concord Quarters is the only free standing slave dwelling listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We are so thrilled to have owner Debbie Cosey take us on a tour of her property, and give you its interpretation in her own words. Debbie and her husband George have lovingly restored the property, and now run it full time as a bed and breakfast. If you are lucky enough to be a guest of Debbie and George you will not only be treated to incredible hospitality, but also a multitude of stories about their experiences restoring and living in Concord Quarters. Concord is an active archeological site, and every day the daily lives of the enslaved workers of Concord plantation are being brought to life. Concord was one of the earliest plantations in the Mississippi territory, growing indigo, tobacco and cotton. Concord quarters is the only extant building related to the original plantation, but the soil surrounding it continues to yield incredible archeological treasures that give us a peek into the daily lives of those who lived and worked on this site.Concord Quarters is a member of the Pilgrimage Garden Club, and will be open for tours during Spring Pilgrimage from March 9-April 9, 2024. You can buy tickets at natchezpilgriamage.com

That woman is an excellent interior designer. I can imagine how oppressive and severe it looked when it was used for its original purpose. Yet, she still weaved around the theme of former slave house, with her added touch of modern warmth to tone it down. Color theming of the rooms, like the tender pink in the dairy or velvet green of the stairway, is balanced so well. This house is like a love letter addressed to the beholder, not a begrudging one. I love it!

**This was special, guys. Ms. Cosey is a heck of a gracious and interesting keeper of artifacts, emissary, and hostess. The physical place, while still imbued with heavier history, is now, thanks to Debbie's redemptive and respectful instincts - a place of welcome, quiet, quality, warmth. A gentle portal to things that must be remembered. Oooh, yes, really enjoyed this one.

This was an enjoyable journey through time with a curator owner who was as informative as she was funny. History shared/told by a passionate observer of life is such a rich gift, especially when the perspective comes from a genuinely warm soul. This property may have been a dairy where slaves once worked and lived, but it is so much more, because of all the love that has been poured into it.

What a kind and giving woman. She clearly makes friends wherever she goes. The story of the clock was incredible. The older the heirloom, the more meaningful it is that a) it still exists, and b) the story has not been lost. In the last few years I've become the caretaker of many well-documented and fascinating family items. I was recently able to share two 1880s sugar bowls (my great-grandmother had owned one; her mother the other), and two 1930s pocket knives from my grandmother's brother, who was a writer and local personality. These items and their stories are now with my young cousins, who will hopefully pass them on to future generations.
