I genuinely think the second part of the solo is one of the best in Slayer discography. And it's funny how the guitarists arbitrarily choose the key to play the approximation of the studio solo haha
I hate when people put lables like that on certain music genres and songs just because certain groups of people like it more than others. To me, this is metal. I'm not going to call it atheist or devil music just because some atheists or devil worshipping religious people listen to it. Why do people take lyrics in songs so damn seriously? It's not like the members of Slayer are going around summoning demons or killing people, they're just a band making music.
The question coming up is what should Tom and Kerry do now? I hope they have no fucking intention of retiring, or "taking it easy for a while." They still have a lot to give, and I really fucking hope they one way or another they start a new chapter of heavy metal for themselves and of course for us, the rabid fans that love them.
Idk guys are getting older man. After over 35 years of kicking ass, they deserve a break. And if they haven't ushered in a new era of music for people yet, they never will. Time for other bands to step up. Nothing lasts forever.
I believe they helped usher in a new era of music in 1985-86 with Hell Awaits and Reign in Blood, and maybe nothing they do from now on will be ground breaking, but it will probably be worth a listen. I don't really think that the number of years a musician/singer has been at it is relevant to when they should take it easy or retire, unless they think it's time to, which means it is time for them to be ushered out the door and other bands to take their place. As long as a musician/singer thinks they have something to give, they should continue on and never stop. Ronnie James Dio was relevant until the day he died, he had something to give and he gave. He didn't want a break, he only wanted to tour, put out an album, tour, put out an album.....that was his life, and so many others we love, many have retired, and don't we miss them. Are we not thankful for the ones that keep on touring and putting out albums every year? I am, I look forward to it. Oh well, have a great weekend my friend.
Thanks for the polite response but I just think it's up to them. No where does it says they owe us anything and if they're done touring for the most part after 2018, then they're done. I rather see a band go out on a good note than become diluted and repeat themselves until a dieing breath. I think it's lazyness on new bands parts to not strive to achieve the same status. Not to sound the same, but to carry the same torch. Slayer picked it up from greats before them. We owe it to slayer to pick it up for the next generation. I don't want Slayer to turn into the Rolling Stones.
I'm actually in agreement with you, if you read my response you'll see I said if they think it's time to retire, and obviously they've said that for Slayer, so I'm just wondering about them doing something else in the future and whether or not they are done completely as musicians or are they going to try another band concept. If they think it's time to totally give it up, then they should definitely give it up. Slayer is done, are they? I guess is the way I should have put it. I don't want them to turn into the Rolling Stones either. No Jones, No Stones. No Hanneman, No Slayer.
