Heavy metal rockers Slayer perform Raining Blood & Silent Scream live at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, England as a part of the South Of Heaven tour 1988.
actually no problem with that. don't you know most of musicians back in those years listened to different genres? mick harris for example, in live corruption home video says he was into cocteau twins.
***** one of their best songs ..... best end to a song ever definitly. Fires burning can you hear Criiiiiiiiiiies.................................. in the night!
My neck was sore for three fucking days after headbanging for one hour for slayer on march 17th. I can't imagine how Tom's neck felt after almost 30 years.
@@jeffstewart4162 It is the first time I've heard someone say that Kerry King was better technically than jeff Hanneman. He was not, in my humble opinion.
Let me clear it up: THIS IS LOMBARDO! He left after Raining Blood and came back before South of Heaven, and actually had to audition against Nick Menza to earn his spot in Slayer again
@@maxdurk4624 can cite them???, I mean I'm a big fan of slayer and never heard that story before, at the same time I'm not the official Slayer biographer so I could be wrong. I know for a fact that Dave left during the Reign in Blood tour and came back to finish it, and normally he was asked up to rejoin the band again by Kerry himself after they were having problems with Tony. Here's an 1986 interview where Jeff and Tom say this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ahDPXwvAmKY.html There are some stories about slayer that I think re just legends, for exemple you can hear Gene Hogland telling that he showed Lombardo how to play double bass during the Haunting the Chapel sessions cause he was their drum tech, a thing that KKing does not remember neither Lombardo. He was around but never was the drum tech. (or maybe they have different notions of what a drum tech is)
@@maxdurk4624 look man I found an interview where Nick mentions something interesting about auditioning for slayer!!! menzajamz.com/an-interview-with-the-legendary-drummer-nick-menza/
My first Slayer album was "South of Heaven" (on cassette, for all my fellow old farts!). I remember thinking how slow the title track was, especially since I had read about how fast they played. I wondered if the entire album would be slow too. Well, once "Silent Scream" came on, all doubts about their speed were erased. For me, it's still one of their most brutal songs. Wish I could have seen it played live.
My first slayer cassette was Hell Awaits - absofuckinglutely was mesmerized by the opening of the title track, Loved at dawn they sleep, and went ballistic to Crypts of Eternity.
Silent Scream was the second song played in Hollywood, California on august 12, 1988. Hollywood Palladium was the venue. First was South of Heaven. Other songs from that album played live: Fight Behind the Crooked Cross, Mandatory Suicide, Ghosts of War. 🤘🎸💀
My first Slayer cassette was Reign In Blood! I bought to spite my older brother who said it would be to heavy for me even though at 13 I was into Metallica and Megadeth at the time but had never heard Slayer's music. I had a 4 hour flight to visit some relatives and it was the only thing I listened to on the flight...I was hooked!!!
To be honest I’ve seen Slayer live well over 20x in my lifetime. I can only Remember Silent Scream on a few occasions. They didn’t play it live too often . At least the shows I went to. Regardless the baddest motherfukers Live !!! Their shows were complete chaos. Broken noses , teeth knocked out. M80’s getting blown off half way through the show (MSG ..Clash of the Titans tour) 😅. Never seen anything like it my life
I had it on vinyl! I absolutely cannot STAND the production or the lack of it on that album, though--Rick Rubin's got some 'splaining to do to this day for that abysmal effort.
There was a rumor back in the 80's that the double bass on Silent Scream was overdubbed afterward in pieces (much like the cymbals on Show No Mercy). I'm so glad to see it was NOT! Go Dave GO! He is the KING of DB
It was on War Ensemble that the double bass was supposedly overdubbed. I can't remember which fanzine I read back then but it's a long story and I don't want to misquote any of it. Something about slayer's manager talking about stage presence or some shit.
@@666bpm4it was an interview in metal maniacs in 1995. Right after the first Grip inc album came out. They told Dave to either lower your Tom's or raise your seat
Its INSANE that Lombardo is literally doing ALL THE WORK and nobody even thought to pass a camera over him even ONCE!?!?! That's like having Superman melt Antarctica with his laser vision, and the cameraman points the camera at the water. Fucking Hell.
I count myself as truly lucky to have seen Slayer in a small club on 9-11-1990 in New Haven CT... part of their short 'Week in the Abyss' tour in the Northeast... my 1st club show...
A lot of people say that James Hetfield is the ultimate rhythm guitarist in metal. I would actually give the nod to Jeff Hanneman. He picking style was absolutely insane. You almost feel sorry for his picks.
You have got it wrong I was there 20/9/88 support band was Nuclear Assault. Also got loads of pics to prove it, so check your facts before you state these things!!!!!!!
Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, and Seasons in the Abyss are quite possibly the best 3 consecutive albums from a band ever. Many will say Ride the Lightening, Master of Puppets, and Justice for all compare, but what James and Lars did to Jason detracts from the accomplishment.
Thank you for uploading this incredible video.Greetings from Italy...I still remember Slayer during the God hates us all tour.Jeff Hanneman was still alive and playing in the band. Many years have already gone by.Cheers!
Saw them at Rock City, Nott'm on this tour, supported by Anthrax who were great fun. Found a spot in the middle of the floor where the thundering double bass kick made my whole rib cage vibrate. What an experience!! 🤙
I’m still recovering my my head banging days in the 80s and in my late 50s I’m still head banging not as fast but still🤘 “fucken slayer” 🤘thanks for posting
Metallica with Cliff and early 90s Megadeth were absolutely on the same level (Metallica with Cliff was even higher IMO). But no other thrash bands on this level for sure.
