Lots and lots of down-picking.. Use something like Metallica's No Remorse to warm up for this... then use Spirit In Black to warm up for Master of Puppets... That should do the trick. Anyway the speed picking riff at the end was easier than i thought... sounded a lot more wild and I could not find accurate tabs. But I have it right in this lesson... Warm up!

Nice lesson! Been looking for how to play this Slayer song as there is no guitar tab books sadly for Seasons in the Abyss which to me is the best Slayer album.

+Nebojsa Markovic I realize this comment is a year old, but if you're still wondering, and if anyone else wants to know....Metallica Seek and Destroy is a pretty good place to start for metal, if you're a beginner. It's an easy song to learn, and the picking is somewhat fast, but a beginner should be able to pick up on it fairly quickly. Metallica has a lot of stuff from Kill 'em All and Master of Puppets that is fast, but there are some songs that are ok for beginners. A good Slayer song to start with is Dissident Aggressor (Judas Priest cover) on the South of Heaven album. It's pretty slow, but still has a good crunch to it. It also has some good short picking runs to practice. South of Heaven has a few good songs for beginners, and so does Seasons in the Abyss. Killing Fields is another good song that isn't too fast. Practice steady alternate picking with a metronome, bumping up the bpm by 5 every few minutes. Practice galloping (that's what I call it, but it's the fast muted triplets) in threes, fours, fives, sixes, and sevens. If you can get those down, and have the ability to go from those patterns into scale runs, you're doing pretty well, and you should be able to pick up on most metal songs from the 80's and 90's.

You're very good. I just saw a tab for this song and... The tricky part (and you know what part I'm taking about) is actually played , per tab anyway..... 0000000 5-6-5-7-5 0000000 5-6-5-7 G# ..but with hammer ons and pull offs, Obviously I saw the tab a minute ago Try it that way and see if it sounds right , you know how wrong tabs can be ...😎

Seymour Duncan pickups in the Strat make the biggest difference. Playing through a Marshall 50 DFX with boss GT-3 FX pedal for distortion. Customized the balls out of the settings on that.

+HalfStepTheory 1. Untrue. Not everybody is a Slayer fan, but those of us who are know that their first few albums are in standard tuning. 2. If the tuning wasn't right, then the guy wasn't playing it right. 3. Unsubbed.

+Captain Freedom 1. I never said everyone is a Slayer fan, and they had only one album that was tuned standard. Hell Awaits is their second studio album, and that was tuned flat. 2. HE IS TUNED HALF STEP DOWN in this video, and YOU CAN PLAY STUFF CORRECTLY WHILE TUNED DIFFERENT. You tune certain ways to match a singer's voice, or to get a particular sound, but if you know how to play something, you know how to play it. It doesn't matter what you're tuned to. People do it all the time. Burn your guitar and take up the triangle. It may be a better fit for you, musically speaking.

+HalfStepTheory 1. Slayer also has an EP from 1984 that's tuned standard. 2. If he is indeed tuned correctly, then he really should have just fucking said so. And while I understand what you mean about knowing how to play something no matter tuning (or key), this happens to be one of those songs where you cannot properly play the song in standard tuning because of the low E(b) chord. I play Black Sabbath songs and just transpose up 1/12 steps all the time if I'm in standard (or down one step if I'm already in 1/2 step down) as the situation dictates. But if the lowest note/chord in a song is lower than your tuning allows - and you don't feel it would be appropriate to do that cheesy one octave up crap - then you must lower your tuning. When covering a song, I believe someone should have total artistic freedom, change the tuning, change the key, change the structure, change the lyrics. But this guy is ostensibly teaching the song as Slayer plays it, so he should do exactly that.
