Dave Lombardo is the only metal drummer that can accomplish machine gun accuracy and intense power, but still sound human and organic. It is so hard to keep that balance... he is a god among drummers for sure!
As if his playing on the album weren't good enough, he actually throws some cool little embelishments into this live set, showing how much command he has over the material. One of the best in the biz.
He seems to improvise a lot. He doesn't play the songs the same way all the time. He keeps the basic tempo of the song but throws in a lot of his own fills as well.
Just to add that it helps as well that the drums are incredibly well mixed and recorded here! You can hear each drum and cymbal cut through the mix. But yeah, his playing is out of this world
He doesn't play the songs the same way every show. He throws in different fills all the time. I don't know if he just improvises or if it's planned. I guess it means the band can't just play the gigs on autopilot.
The Guy in the Backward Baseball Cap IS The Greatest Heavy Metal Drummer of All Time. Yes This was 2010. He Invested This Shit in the Early 80's. He Is a Fucking Genius. Dave Lombardo. Your'e Welcome.
Same here! Everyone references "Reign" which absolutely makes sense, it's all historically important and freaking sick. But "War Ensemble", and even more, "South of Heaven" sealed the deal for me as Slayer being one of the best, if not thee best, metal bands ever.
Dave is on fire here. This might be my fav Slayer song but maybe the "sloppiest" Jeff and Kerry have sounded in the string skipping verse riff... good to know they're human?!
Slayer in its original line-up with Dave and Jeff. No other drummer in the universe can beat Lombardo. Last time I saw him he played with Suicidal Tendencies and even then with your eyes closed it was is clear that it can be only Dave beyond the drum kit. Amazing, he must have come straight from Hell to give us this!
Everyone always says the band is only as good as the Drummer is, That Is True. Well. They Were the Greatest Super Heavy Band ever. So I guess the saying is True. Dave Is The Beast Of Beasts. Power, Fluid Movement and economy of Motion and That Speed. Hands Down The Best Of The Best, I Love and respect Dave. I've been doing this for almost 50 Years.
Ive gotta agree with some of the other comments on here, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Bostaphs drumming at all, but its Dave Lombardos insane energy that helps create that a train about to come off its tracks vibe...chaos. Also, I'll add that it was Jeff's riffs and solo's that made Slayer slay 🤘
That's what I have always liked about Slayer live, they never relied on props or theatrics. They just played the songs. Also Tom Araya never needed to encourage the audience to go crazy, they did it without being asked.
Totalmente, siempre dejaba todo tocando. Si ves los conciertos que hicieron con Paul (es un gran baterista) pero no se compara al sonido de Slayer con Dave, a mí parecer aburre verlos sin Dave.
Isn't it amazing how the quality of slayer albums is directly correlated with Lombardo being in the band? It's almost like he's always been the best member and without him they're just another run of the mill thrash band living of the legacy of their old stuff.
The quality of the drummer directly affects the band. Yes, Lars from Metallica is easily the worst drummer of the big 4 but he's still pretty damn good. Thus Metallica's success. Dave Lombardo may be the most underrated drummer in metal of all time. Definitely a top 3 underrated metal drummer of all time.
@@arnob6903 It doesn't matter. Old school has no need to be modern. They're legends. It's very important to stop in time. Jeff's out - Slayer stops. As for me, Repentless was a mistake
Jeff Hanneman technique: Strum all the strings like crazy, play the verse choosing one note at a time while muting all the rest of the strings. Edit: [Removed] Edit 2: Goodbye context ;)
If you're being clever, then woosh on me. If you're really asking, it's Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax, who all appeared in this concert in 2010. Lucky for Bulgaria.
That was the last time I saw them live, Hanneman was well and shredding, they delivered a hammer set... I don't know how many people will agree but I think Slayer deserved to be the headlining band that night. Tallika did well but not great enough... Slayer dropped a bigger bomb over Sofia. Cheers!
This is a 60-year-old (now) screeching "War Ensemble" back in 2010. This is energy! All we need not vaccines to fight damn COVID 19, 20, 21, and the rest of it in foresight. Plain gut, power & will from within!
