i have the i7 2070 gs66 and so far this laptop has been great. Fortnite and valorant play extremely smoothly with 200+fps on both. Have not tried cod yet but there is a video of someone playing it already. So far i am really happy with this laptop i just need to upgrade to 64 gb of ram and i will be set
Felipe Pinto for work, my laptop needs to be able to handle 50+ tasks when im working. 32 works for me but since i will use this laptop for about the next 5 years i figure i might as well go for 64 gb
This is one of the few overall very positive reviews of this laptop! Makes me feel much better about impulse buying that i9 2070 super max q from Costco. Every other review I’ve seen complained a lot about the fans and thermals, I hope it’s not too bad.
@@TechTesters I have the 17 inch 2019 version and I'm not sure what to think of it. It's really a hit or miss in many departments but I guess I'm gonna roll with it until I buy a proper gaming rig.
@Zieg msi were clearly in the right direction when marketing the laptop for content creation as well since it has thunderbolt 3 and intel quick sync as for gaming, intel still wins out cuz of higher clock speeds, lower memory latency, and the fact that its cpus still perform better at single threaded tasks
Thanks for the awesome review, I am considering this machine for my work machine as I want something light, powerful, and stylish (albeit I'll get the model with the RTX 2070 Max-Q)! This looks like a professional and powerful machine all in one to handle all sorts of heavy computing tasks like HD video, gaming, 3D modeling/rendering, animation, video editing/rendering, programming, and design based work. Fits the bill until I can build my custom desktop later on at least in a few months once I spec and price out all the components I want (plus a killer case). For now this would allow for efficient multi-tasking and working on the go for the new job I'm starting.
You can get the 2070 Super, with 32gig of RAM version for about $2400 (£2000) in the states.Thats insanely cheap! When its released in the UK that will be close to the £3000 mark, you watch. The UK and EU get shafted when it comes to tech prices.
If possible, please add a line or two about the response time on the display if possible. It would really make you the most comprehensive laptop reviewers atm, as It’s one of the most important things I look in a gaming laptop (and why I’ll skip the Asus G14 for example) and really makes a difference when playing FPS games.
It's something I really want to do, but it's also not something I can just grab off the shelf and apply. Suggestions are definitely welcome, and again, it's something I hope to be able to add very soon. Overall though, these 300Hz models (and the 240Hz counterparts) really are fast displays, a lot better than the recent 144Hz options for example. I still don't think those are bad at those lower price points for gamers. But you can easily consider this one "very good".
OMG! It is simple & minimalist but the Power and Performance is Amazing! Just look at those numbers. Very detail and Informative as always! Great Job! Love your channel! #MSI #GS66 #Laptop
Great review, nice to see a review of the final product and not just preproduction. I'm seriously looking at buying this computer, just wish the i7/2070 super version were available in Denmark, have only found the i9/2080 super.
I’ve been waiting for this review for a while, im glad i bought this laptop...i got the i7 version rtx 2070, 240 hz, 1 TB nvme...im really happy with my purchase
I was looking to buy that one too with the same specs. Do you like it. Do you think it's good and wich games do you play on it? If you play any games ofc. Thanks
Thanks for the fantastic review! I was really interested in the gs66 but was put off by every other reviewer saying how bad the thermals are. I’m hoping that they all had pre-production samples and cooling has been improved?
Just bought one, full spec, i9-10980HK, RTX 2080 Super Max-Q, 64GB custom RAM, 2 TB(2x) Samsung EVO Plus SSDs (4TB), Grizzly Conductonaut liquid metal thermal paste, clean Windows 10 Pro install (no bloatware), $4,500 :D. SOOOOO EXCITED! Question : Would getting a good laptop cooler help with this laptop's huge air intakes on the bottom and improve temperature enough to justify using a laptop cooler?
That's an insane setup 😁 enjoy! Tbh I can't say about the cooling platforms. It helps some laptops, but on others it barely does anything. I don't test using them anyway.
It is very interesting to see OEMs finally figure out how to do proper thermals in these machines. I am pleasantly surprised. Imagine what will happen once they get more efficient processors to work with.
I enjoyed every second again! Perfect. My review: good laptops but the audio issue still sucks. I have a 2007 model piyano black and shiny screen lenovo laptop which has a Subwoofer underneath! Great sound which makes me buy it at first glance. msi, think of it. for a home user, 17 in is the best I think. Im using my 15.6in msi gl65 at 150% character size, so i can see whatever appers on it! It is 144 hz and I'm very happy about it after watching your video about that.
I'm really surprised to hear that the GS66 cooling system is quieter than the one in the M15 and the Razer Blade 15! Would you say that the speakers are of similar quality to the ones on the M15?
Yea, I was surprised too, especially because early reviews complained about noise. I was referring to the Blade 17 Pro btw, not the 15. I'll actually make a video on the GS66 vs the M15 for a full comparison, but no: the M15 has better speakers for sure.
@@aaaron7481 well its a keeper for sure then. no way i would get that in anyway. then again i have to get a gf first. but even then. o well at least you can game together now^^
Great video as always. Perfect info, to the point. Could watch u all day. Was interesting to see your take on Asus blocking air vents on different laptop. Keep it up Nada! 👍
Depends on the price, and of course your budget really. I think the entry level one around 16-1700 sounds like a pretty good deal, or the 2070S/300Hz version. I think the RTX 2080 Super really only makes sense if you don't know what to do with your money anymore.
@@TechTesters Just wanted to check how's the stability of this laptop with regard to the hardware and parts. Was thinking whether I should go for some extended warranty.
I try to read every comment ☺️ I can't promise it now, but I'll try to do a recomparison between the a15 and some other units. If so, I'll include other modes
I'm surprised about how many reviews are out for this laptop. It's a really good one, and personally, wouldn't really spend over $2000 for a laptop anyways. That being said, The 2070 Max-Q version of this laptop, at least in the US, is actually the sweet spot I feel to hit to flex the refresh rate a little without breaking the bank too much.
Man, and also the drop in price would be pretty significant. The problem with companies is that they didn't want to invest in ryzen CPUs because they were not popular enough and weren't properly tested and these companies often order a batch of CPUs a year or so before the planned release date for their computers. But seeing how much people are asking now for the new ryzen CPUs, I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of new laptops coming with ryzen next year. I was considering buying this laptop, but I'm going to wait until the end of this year, or even until next year
Btw, the difference in region prices isn't just "a little". rtx 2070 max super version in usa: 2200$ same version in uk: 2300 pounds (equivalent to around 2700$) same version in my country in eastern europe: equivalent to 3300$ its cheaper to buy from usa and pay import taxes, or get a visa, travel to murica, buy the laptop and get back.
Usually if you account for taxes and spec differences the price gap is pretty small though between mainland EU and US. I know UK often gets higher prices, same for eastern EU unfortunately 🙁
@@TechTesters same thing is true for western europe as well. But not as badly. And while i did account for taxes and all that, its still a jump from 2200$ to 3300$, So, if i ever get that model, it would be from us and shipped for my country. Buying it from here would be a total rip off. Even if you account for VAT and shipping. You have over 500$ markup price. And that's enough for me to pay rent for 2 months. So, every penny counts.
How loud are the fans when you just do regular stuff, so no gaming etc.? I'm studying Mechanical Engineering and will need a powerful laptop with a good quality GPU, but I'm just too worried the GS66 will be too loud in class. My biggest tasks will be 3D projects on engineer programs like SolidWorks.
Thank you for an excelent review, as many other has complained about the thermals i wonder if it is here where they have improved compared to the early sample?
I need a portable laptop for work and casual gaming. Should I get the GS66 or Zephyrus M15? The models I am looking at both come with the i7-10750H and 2070 Max-Q (from Best Buy). Thanks!
@@TechTesters I haven't had the privilege of experiencing more than 60Hz on a display like you techtubers 😂 I'd rather have Adaptive Sync and not need it than not have Adaptive Sync and need it. Especially at the high price.
Great review! It's unfortunate that it's quite expensive in the EU. I was wondering if you are going to review any XMG laptops in the future, since they are the European equivalent of Eluktronics laptops and Eluktronics laptops are very well received.
Question, do you know or could you test if the laptop charges via the thunderbolt 3 ? I'm interested in this model for a while but I want to use it with a dock and I'm not quite clear on the thunderbolt capabilities
I didn't notice it was any different or worse than on the asus models I had recently. Not quite xps like though, but even there it's never really perfect with wrist rejection.
I agree, however, lowering noise output would require much more finely-machined but durable fans ($$), a sophisticated noise cancellation system ($$$), a thicker body( $ and higher weight), and/or some sort of sound insulation ($$) that would, unfortunately, also act as heat insulation (bad bad news for a laptop!). 😞
Please help me with my choice idk what to buy msi gs 66 10se, for 1100$ with i7 and rtx2060 or Lenovo legion 5 with ryzen 7 and gtx 1660 ti for 990$? Bigest part of day i will do programming and maybe sometime play games. Little bit disappointed temperatures in msi( Please help 🙏
I'm probably going to end up getting the base model of this. However, I'm worried with next gen titles right around the corner. Is the base model going to be able to run new titles coming out a year or two from now? If not where do you think the line is? I don't want to spend €3,700 on a laptop lol.
Can't really say what will happen in two years. Realistically, you should be able to play all games, you'll just have to gradually start dropping settings.
@Bladerunner2043 I ended up getting the higher end version and with that 300hz there hasn't been any on demanding or casual games. I had the Zephyrus g14 for 2 weeks and that had g and free, yet this runs better. 🤷♂️
which one should i get ge66 or gs66? the ge66 has 2070 1tb ssd 16bram for $2399.99 CAD while the gs66 has 2060 512ssd 16gb ram for@ 2199.99CAD. i am more towards the ge66....
I expect to have a GE66 in my hands in a few days! I do think that 200$ for a bigger SSD and a GPU upgrade sounds very interesting, but remember the GE66 is thicker and heavier. But expect a review soon :)
So I’m at a loss I’m basically looking for a everyday laptop with a lot of speed but it seems like a lot of the ultra books don’t even compare to the fast specs of a gamer can someone educate me?
Techtesters I guess cpu power I mostly hate how long my current laptop ( which understandably is old) takes to boot and process more than a few programs at a time IE Firefox, database programmer and iTunes at the same time. I just want to future proof it for atleast 5 yrs
I talk about it in the second part, there's timestamps in the description too! It's actually very sturdy. Entry level ones have 240Hz options, no 144Hz afaik.
when i first saw this sexy beast, i was contemplating getting it instead of a razer stealth. (not really into pc gaming much anymore, only in it for the aesthetics).. but i heard it has some issues. any chance you'll be reviewing the new blade stealth anytime soon? :')
You are hesitating between a low specs 13" laptop and a high specs 15" laptop? In any case, the Asus G14 would probably be a better fit in that middle ground.
I've got something coming with the Blade Stealth 13 (1650 / 1080p 60hz though). It tested just fine, bit I've heard others with issues too. Can't say much about that though.
I want a gaming laptop. I am confused between the 2070 max q version of this laptop and the msi gp65 2070 full. According to my research below are the key differences. 240hz vs 144hz Thunderbolt vs No thunderbolt 99wh vs 51wh 1tb SSD vs 512gb SSD Better design vs Poorer design Poor performance vs better performance 1799$ vs 1499$ Could you please do a comparison video between the two? If not could you please tell me how much would be the average difference in percentage in fps. @techtesters
I don't have a GP65, but for that price it sounds like a good upgrade. Especially because I fear that 144Hz panel is the same as in the Bravo / A15 / G15, i.e. not great with colors. Not sure though, could be good.
