I love the idea of a woman in her 30s stumbling across this video and being reminded of the MCR fan fiction she wrote as a teenager

Most fans respect the band’s anonymity but whoever posted the birth certificate is definitely out of their mind. Just so disrespectful of their privacy and just straight up creepy.

I don't think fans are crazier than before, I think social media has given them unfettered access to way more information. Now their insane assclownery has no limits.

I went to a meet and greet at a Bad Omens show, primarily just to get a good spot on the rail. Noah was so clearly uncomfortable and instead of people just walking up shaking hands and getting a picture, these folks were asking them to pose and directing them like they were dolls. It was really gross. Do people not get these are human beings, not props for your IG? Yech. The whole thing was just really creepy.

I remember, growing up, loving the mystery of a band that I liked without having social media and ways to follow them. We don’t need to know everything. The mystery is fun.

Considering most of their hardcore fan base seems to be typical TikTok/reddit users, I’m not surprised about this at all. I used to say hardcore Harry Potter fans are the most emotionally pathetic people I’ve had the misfortune of interacting with. That was before I discovered TikTok and Reddit.

Apparently, the person who leaked all this info on band members is named Anne and has stated in the past that they are not a Sleep Token fan. They have been threatening online to do this for a while now. Who in their right mind wastes all that effort and time gathering all this info and then posting it for something that they aren't even a fan of!

I remember an interview with Corey Taylor, he was talking about how in the early days people would follow them trying to see them unmasked or snap secret pics of them. I gotta disagree Finn, that was weird back then too and it's weird now with Sleep Token. Ain't the music more important than who is behind a mask?

The real fans of the band would never do something like this, we respect the band’s wishes to remain anonymous, these people are a different breed, not fans

People idolize band members and forget that they're human. Concert etiquette is in the trash now too. They're about to ruin concerts and music as we know it. Who in their right mind would invade someone's privacy like that.. it's honestly disgusting. I don't even listen to sleep token but if this is true, my heart just sinks for them.

This is what happens when a band like Sleep Token or MCR is accepted by a more mainstream audience. I hate to say it because it's cringe af, but people who are into pop music do this kinda crap. Metalheads or people into heavy music don't generally act creepy over bands and band members. It's when the music and bands start getting the attention of teenagers and more pop minded kids that this starts happening.

Cute aggression is not a recognized, psychological disorder, it is a thing that happens, but it isn't a mental illnesses, disorder, or condition.

I'm not even a sleep token fan but i hate this whole situation. It's ridiculous that people can't be anonymous and do what they love. Anyone who doxxes anyone should honestly do some jail time cause that shit can get people killed (looking at you sssniperwolf)

In previous generations it was common to not even know what a band looked like, forget anything actually personal. Now, with everyone having so much easy access to information it has created a feeling from some people that nothing should be inaccessible. It's crazy that I've watched the death of privacy in my lifetime.

When I started listening to Sleep Token in 2018, I never expected this level of insanity 😂

I am so glad we’re talking about this being weird. Back in my days I when I was a fan of MCR and the bisexual innuendos was a real thing amongst the teen girls. It was creepy then and it’s still creepy now, especially when things like doxing is really becoming a very real scary thing. It never ends well. If ST is doing their shenanigans for a new album or single, or pulling a Ghost rebranding themselves. I am here for it and I’ll be excited for their next project. If they did have a psycho stalker, I hope they have pretty good lawyers and they will figure it out.

To answer your question of why someone would do this, my best guess is for bragging rights. To say "haha I get to be the person who publicly uncovered the true identities of Sleep Token!" It's like how J. Jonah Jameson was so adamant on uncovering Spider-Man's identity.

The band fic reminds me when Ronnie Radke was on stream reading the description of a fanfic about himself adopting the fic writer from an orphanage. Hearing it out loud makes it all the more strange.

I respect them wanting to be anonymous. The bigger slip up was Apple Music using their real names as the song writers when Take me back to Eden was initially released.

It’s a shame that Sleep Token’s fan base is being considered toxic now. As a fan of them since Sundowning, I would like to say the whole fan base is not like this. Idk why people can’t just appreciate a band without disturbing them

This is absolutely ridiculous. WTF? Whoever did this needs to be prosecuted and punished severely. No one should have their privacy invaded like this. Absolutely unacceptable. I’m not a Sleep Token fan. I’m not familiar with their music and I’m not interested in finding out about it, but as a human being I’m very sorry this has happened.

My cousins are in a band and they had a stalker pack up and move from another country and show up on their doorstep like 2 years ago so he could be with one of them. Fans can be completely unhinged.

To be fair, crazy people has always been around, it's just that internet culture and the internet itself embraces this type of behavior and allow these types of people to not face the consequences. In the case of Bad Omens it happened because Noah is a handsome guy. In Sleep Token's case this sounds more like an anti fan trying to ruin the band and the gimmicks (not that it makes any of this acceptable).

When I was a teenager (pre internet) we had like 5 photos of The Misfits. And that's all we had.

Unfortunately their identities were/is going to come out at some point. Either by themselves or the fans. The internet made it easy for stalkers to look things up. We will know all of their names, where they grew up and who their friends are by the end of the year. Im actually surprised the band didn’t assume that was going to happen in the first place

Imo knowing their identities doesn't actually change anything, they're still Vessel, II, III and IV. But leaking their personal documents is completely disgusting and would be no matter what artist it happened to. Sleep Token as a lot of complete fangirls, who fawn over them the same way we emo kids fawned over Warped Tour bands in early 2010's. At least in the 2010's, we mostly kept our weird thoughts and ideas to our own little corner of the internet. I think with the rise of TikTok and especially Sleep Token's popularity with "The Summoning" on the app, fans find them very sexual and think it's okay to go absolutely feral for them. I've had to leave several Facebook group because of the cringy, gross sexualization of the band members. The boys do somewhat encourage it with their on-stage antics, but I'm afraid that's making the fans feel like they're entitled to do and think whatever their want regarding the band in broad daylight. And they no longer just keep it to their own little corner of the web.

We went through this with Kiss, we went through this with Slipknot, and we will again with the next masked band

I don’t think this is where things are going. Things have already been this way. There are always going to be crazy people that infiltrate a fandom and cross boundaries. They do not represent the majority, though, and never will. Crazy people , just like negative people, will always be the loudest even though they’re the smallest group.

Kiss went through something similar back in the 70s. They went to great lengths to not get photographed without their make-up on, so you'd occasionally see a news story where a fan was hanging off the balcony at a hotel trying to get a pic of them without the facepaint.

Respect and appreciate your takes on this Finn. Definitely a messy situation. In regards to the person saying it “gave them stomach pain”, cut them some slack. They don’t need to “seek help”. Being highly internally upset that your favorite band may have just ended is absolutely a justifiable reason to have a physical reaction, that’s just how emotions affect the body. Of course it would be silly to go beyond this and start to take actual action in response to the news, but I found that specific take a bit reductive of the fanbase as a whole.

I think music in general has had nutter fans like this for a long time, look at Swifties and going way back The Beatles and Elvis, they all have/had mad cult followings. Maybe we're just seeing more in metal now as it's getting more popular and having it happen to a band like Sleep Token who want anonymity just highlights it more?

From what I heard, someone found iii's personal Twitch account and they found out more information from there, including the birth certificate. I love Sleep Token, but this is true insanity. People aren't entitled to band members' personal information.

I think it's pretty obvious and should be said by everyone with a voice in the matter, that whoever engages in this type of behavior IS NOT A FAN. Fandom's respect and protect creators and content. Possibly worse than leaking a band members birth certificate would be if the leakers were wrong and it was a random guy not involved with the band at all. I hate this band but I do feel for them. You could see it coming based on the fanbase online. I know it is probably for their rebrand or whatever, but I'd respect this band so much if they just packed up and told their fans "you don't deserve us."

I remember at the peak of PTV and SWS, BMTH, etc other teens keeping tabs on what toothpaste the band members used and what they're favorite things were, what birthmarks they have on their body and other weird personal details I feel only their personal friends/family should know. I always thought it was too extra and creepy that all that stuff was on the Internet like Tumblr etc

I actually think this has a wider western society implications. I think this comes from the fact that young men have lost belief in the systems and political apparatus. Peoples identify used to be based largely on national origin and large groups. Ie we were American. However, that has gone away and now we as a group identify more with smaller subcultures that become central to our identify. Young me hav always been the exporter of violence, they will do that but where will it be oriented and for who is the question.

This is part of what makes us human. Some of us just have this in us... It doesn't excuse the behavior, but we all need to know and understand this. There's people out there that obsess over a lot of other people, and do things like this. This has always been a thing, and it will continue to be a thing. There's not really any way to stop it. What do others suggest? We track every single one of these people down, and either shut their lights down forever, or lock them away? We're all "crazy" in one way or another. Some us just happen to understand that this kind of behavior, seen in this video, really ain't ok, but we're stable enough to know that. Others aren't... That was kinda messy, but hopefully whoever reads this gets what I'm saying...

Usually its a total turnoff for me when a band has such hype around them but in Sleep Tokens case the music is actually good. Just want to enjoy the music without all the quirks around it. im not 14 anymore lol

I created a Tik Tok video on Sleep Token thats reached 160,000 views on that platform. Never seen any band spread like wild fire like this before.. Great band, I love them too. Most likely there have always been crazed fans in the music industry for decades, however the internet has helped birth the voluminous catacombs of mental illness spread across the globe.

I've seen a lot of general hate on Sleep Token content for no apparent reason. People really are mad that fans of ST are really excited about the music and I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't some estranged, mentally disturbed person took offense to it and tried to expose identities just to ruin it for their fans. Speculation, obviously, but I'm confused as to why people who don't like the band trying to talk shit to people who do. It's a very weird dynamic, people are taking the same tribalism from politics and bleeding over into music and genres-, sub-genres, etc.

What ever is going on with them. They picked one hell of a time to when we got aliens in Miami…………
