When you think about it, this series, and this finale in particular, is the ultimate test of JMS’s comment that “The King died, and the Queen died,” is not a story, but “The King died, and the Queen died of sorrow,” is a story. Through timeslips and flash-forwards, you knew all this would happen. You even saw, thanks to Lady Ladria’s vision of the future in S1, what would happen to Babylon 5. The story was *always* going to end with the station being destroyed. The only difference was how and why.
@halvpoe
@halvpoe 4 дня назад
Just like Londo’s vision of dying with G’kar’s hand around his throat. When first seen it is assumed they are enemies that kill each other. When it is shown during Sheridan’s time jump, it is a mercy kill from one old friend to another, only turning into a mutual kill because of londo’s keeper waking up. The times we saw the station blowing up, and even Kosh’s words to the dying Centauri emperor were all true. Just not in the way we (the viewer) thought.

And in classic JMS fashion, not the way that we the viewers expected at all! It's been one amazing journey, to be sure. And while it's sad that it's over, we can rejoice that we experienced it. The Sleeping in Light suite of music was created just for this episode, completely original from start to finish. I feel they diminished it a little bit by using some of it in Objects at Rest. It’s a gorgeous celebration of joy and sadness. I don’t cry easy so I tell you, this one gave me a helluva headache. Even allowing for Zack’s inexplicable Midwest accent, it’s a perfect finale. I should note that in the original airing order, by the time we got to this episode, we had already seen three of the four TNT movies. A Call to Arms followed very soon after to kick in the start of Crusade.

If you really don't want it to end, there are like 11 out of print, canon novels to hunt down to read, these 3 are probably my favorite: "To Dream in the City of Sorrows" is a little more about Sinclair's time in-between the end of S1 and his later appearance in the show. "Shadow Within" A bit more backstory for the Sheridans set prior to the Babylon 5 pilot. "Casting Shadows" the first book in the Techno-mage trilogy, I like it by far the best of the 3 techno-mage books as has a lot of world building on the nature of the techno-mages.

@@louiswillhauck5572 Vir remarks that he and Londo were walking by the Pak’ma’ra’s quarters, there was no indication in “There All Honor Lies” that the odd cave-like space would be their quarters. No denial, I think it’s a fine theory, and the musical connection is certainly suggestive. That Pak’ma’ra would sing with human-sounding voices though is somewhat problematic. Another theory is that the experience was all Kosh-induced. Kosh brings Sheridan to this isolated area to avoid any distraction. From his ship which sings we know that Vorlons sometimes utilize “music” on humans/younger races.

The ending of this show is burnt into my mind. I saw it when originally aired in the UK, and it stayed with me ever since. The score is a big part of it, but every performance here is bang on. No show has ever come close to ending so pitch perfect as this one for me. On a personal note, now you have reached the end, I always thought it was only right Susan become Ranger One, not only for the growth of her character, but in a small way, Marcus kept his oath, he lived and died for the One. That's explained behind the scenes, and is one used in a million war films - when we see the Centauri, Minbari, Germans etc. talking between themselves, they're actually talking their own language but for audience convenience it is portrayed as English. @@TheDanEdwards Yes, of course. But I was talking about the execution of the endings of the screen adaptations. But also content-wise: Compare that to the ending of Voyager. They return to Earth, and then it ends. No epilogue.

Real men cry at this episode. Period. "I'm not ready for it to be done" is the sentiment we all had. So many possible spin off stories, ideas, threads..... Now you know why we all go insane with all the stupidity of studio execs choosing to NOT reboot the series. Crusade had potential, but was ultimately brought down by panels of studio execs - too many cooks in the kitchen. Worth a watch, but not quite on the level of B5. Thanks for going on this journey. One of the best television shows ever.

I forgot to ask you when I saw this on your Patreon. Now who is your #1 captain? How would you rank them now?

I have friends who refuse to watch this because the first few episodes look quite cheap by today's standards.... They'll never know how brilliant a story they're missing.

It's a great way to end the show. Hope you enjoy the TV movies & Crusade, look forward to your reviews of those 👍

@@MegaReacts That's a reasonable order. Most important is getting A Call to Arms before Crusade.

@@MegaReactsI do suggest watching Crusade in the order given on Lurkers Guide and not the broadcast order. Its a much stronger show for it.

@@MegaReacts Yes, that's good. A Call to Arms is the pilot of Crusade, so it makes sense to watch the series right after that one.

I hate that phrase! "There's a time and place and a way of doing things." Ugh!
