I am 72. Lived in a cracker-box sized NYC apt for 45+ years, and always put our bed out at night, a combination of futon and quilts. It was Heaven. Hubby enjoys it as well. We relocated after retiring - to an apt in New Orleans that is twice and then some the size of our former NY place. We now have plenty of room for beds. But guess what? We still prefer the futons. They are cozy, snuggly and can't remember the last time either of us ever had back trouble. Hey, just sayin'....
I’ve just moved to Korea and our furniture is being shipped so we bought a yo and I bought a topper that’s super fleecy. In korea the floors are heated so this must make it really cozy. I’ve not got my heating on. I’ve a bad back from moving but I’ve slept ok actually. I think I’d prefer a soft comfy regular bed but it’s good if you like firm. It’s nothing like a futon just for peoples information
My mom is from Korea and made several blankets in this style. Now married to a French Canadian and navigating a sleep divorce ( his snoring and my light sleep are not compatible.) I can’t imagine sleeping ON this beautiful creation). Sleeping under her blanket was like a weighted blanket. I have saved her blankets (because how could you not) & I might integrate it into my new solution. Love your MIL’s 요 cover! ❤️ thank you for the info… now if I can get these heathens to leave their shoes at the door!!!!
I sleep on the floor too, currently on blankets over the carpet, I am going back to a tatami in a month, or two it is the traditional Japanese bed. I love it as well, I plan to use it for the long run.
Wow interesting! I know it it not easy to sleep on the floor without metress for you guys western people. I really appreciate to introduce Korean 이불(=Ibul, Yo) and choose it. Sometimes we might be so lazy to fold it every morning 😂 but I believe no doubt perfect choice to small area.
I was waiting for this one! :) i sleep on a regular mattress on the floor and one thing that’s been harder for me is getting out of the bed in the morning. Maybe it’s the lack of difference in levels, it just seems easier to drop off your legs from the bed.
My husband and I sleep on Japanese style futons made from cotton and wool. We love it except for one thing. Our house is very humid and because of this the beds grow mold at the snap of a finger. And the mold stains don’t come out. We air them out outside every week and have an industrial dehumidifier but we still have a mold issue. Other than that we love sleeping on the floor!
N M We got them from an Etsy seller a few years ago. Unfortunately I can’t find the exact one. There are a ton of sellers for them now. Ours are stuffed with wool and flax and had a 100% organic cotton cover. It’s a lot of money to drop on something especially if you don’t know if you’ll like it or if it will get mold etc. I highly recommend layering some comforters and blankets or even a folded up mattress topper on the ground first before you make the investment.
Hi, I bought a tatami and futon. The thing is I want to have a vanity desk. Is it weird to have a floor bed and having higher desk ? I can see that you have regular size shelf.
I sleep on a traditional cotton futon and absolutely love it. The only time I use a pillow is if I'm sleeping on my stomach. Otherwise, a pillow kind of ruins the line of my back. As for buying futons in the US, you have to be careful about purchasing futons disguised as foam pads because there are a lot out there.
I've been wanting to get a futon for a while, but I live in a small studio and use the storage underneath the bed so it hasn't worked out yet - I think I'd get a tatami mat along with it though because I have tiled floors and they are really cold.
Lovely video.:))) but You never mentioned...What’s that white metal furniture next to you on the video that holds your yo bed from keeping on the floor called?:) thx 😊
I’m considering something like this. My floor is unpacked carpet on concrete, but my ultra firm mattress is faaar too soft now. I am comfortable on dirt when camping, so I’m trying to figure out a minimal floor set up that can fold/roll away. A queen mattress is not nice in a 13 foot by 11 foot room, especially since I can’t lay out fabric for sewing. I really need to try using our futon mattress, just laying on the floor
OMG Maria Hi! I recently was thinking of getting a 삼단요 to sleep on if I have guests over, and came across this. Hope you're doing well!! It's a beautiful mat too :)
I asked my mother-in-law and she gave me these sites as some options. I haven't personally tried them. mg.gmarket.co.kr/Search/Search?topKeyword=bedding&charset=enUS and www.hmart.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=전기요
I think you could if you had a big enough washer (maybe at a laundromat) and if it weighs less than 20 pounds. To keep mine clean, I use a waterproof cover that zips up and wash that once a week. I've also put the actual bed in the dryer on high heat a few times with no issues.
