In this video we do another experiment with our Tata Nexon EV. We decided to spend a night in Tata Nexon EV with A/C on to see how much the battery will discharge while parked. It was a cold night and we were surprised by the results. Are electric vehicles good for camping? Do we have to worry about toxic gases entering the cabin? Find out in this video as we answer your questions and share tips and tricks with you.
Hope you will enjoy the video and if you do please Like, Share and Subscribe to our channel.

A friend of mine has done this experiment on his petrol car and Nexon EV. Petrol car costs 150 to 200 rupees per hours of parked AC usage in petrol car (1.5 to 2 litre petrol is consumed) whereas in Nexon EV it is only 5 to 6 rupees per hour of parked AC usage. EV is good for waiting at airports and stations with AC on when plane or train are late by an hour or so.

@RahulKaushik09

Bro AC in Nexon is on a weaker side. If the car is running for long time specially while it's stationery, it will divert part of the compressor power to cool the batteries. In warmer climate it's more noticable.

Hi Akshay, it was resolved in my second service. It is an alignment issue in the door. I have made a video and explained what they did. As much as it was weird, it did the job and now I don't hear any noise. It's not the glass, not the door panel that makes noise. Something that Nexon has with the door frame on passenger side.

@RahulKaushik09 2 года назад
Hi Raghavendra, first of all congratulations on booking your Nexon EV. I am sure you will love the car. Being your first car, you will have an advantage that you will get accustomed to driving an EV, and not have to change your driving style to suit an EV like people who switch from ICE cars. You will really enjoy the performance and how convenient it is to drive in the city. As I recommend to every new EV owner, I will suggest to take short trips nearby your city or drive it more often, so you understand the car better. Once you will get the confidence that how much range you can extract in various scenarios, then you will not have any range anxiety. I hope you get your car soon and if you ever have any issues or doubts, feel free to drop me a comment and I will always try to answer your questions :)

I think u can pull the rear seat out and stuff in the gap where u place ur legs. Then the rear seat folds flat but still it sits a couple of inches higher than the boot floor. U can fill that gap using a custom made matress and then use another longer mattress as ur bed.
@RahulKaushik09
@RahulKaushik09 2 года назад
Hi Vikram, we did that next day after we shot the video. We were going through the manual to see if seats can fold flat and then we found out the the bottom part opens up as well. Then you pointed it out correctly, the seat still sits 4 inches higher than the floor and one will still need a mattress to level it just like you said. I really hope that seats can go flat as that is more convenient then carrying additional mattresses. Thanks for sharing the info :)

@RahulKaushik09

Hi Taseer, during my time using it I never heard the compressor kick in. So I think it won't consume as much power as it would if AC was on.
@dr.taseer4499
@dr.taseer4499 2 года назад
@@RahulKaushik09 Actually, in diesel and petrol vehicles, the coolant heats up as the engine heats up. And this coolant circulates in the heater coil and creates hot air in the car. Since an electric car does not have an engine, how does it produce hot air?
@RahulKaushik09
@RahulKaushik09 2 года назад
As per my research, they are using resistive heating system, basically in easy terms they have a heater element that has resistive wires which might be connected to a controller that manages how much energy from the battery is supplied. The energy from the battery is used to heat up the wires and then the blower passes the air through it that eventually heats up the cabin. Now they might be using more advanced version of it but I really doubt because winters in India are short lived.

@RahulKaushik09
@RahulKaushik09 2 года назад
Hi Krushna, honestly if you travel around 170 in a day then Nexon EV is good, but if you travel 400 KM in a day then it won't be possible without charging the car. So if you are in a place where fast chargers are not available, then you are stuck. With around 170 km of running a day, you will save a lot of money, but then again with 400 km of running and without a fast charger will create more issues. So my recommendation is that with 170 km of running, go for it and buy. But 400 km running without fast charger around, don't buy. Hope it helps :)

@RahulKaushik09
@RahulKaushik09 2 года назад
@@krushnay Oh yes, then its not an issue at all. In fact on highway you will get better range compared to driving in local because you will be able to keep constant speed and a flat energy graph. In that case you should get an EV, even if you stay at a site for 6 hours, you can easily gain back 60% battery. Plus if you reach the site at minimum of 30% battery, by the time you are done your work after 5-6 hours, you will easily have 80-90 battery available. Plus those highway stretches have many chargers now, so you don't have to worry much. You have made the right choice by booking Nexon EV. Stick with it, you will save a lot on fuel cost and maintenance. Hope you get your delivery soon. Congrats in advance :)

Bjorn nyland has explained that in EVs, cooling the car down using AC is much more efficient and easier vs ICE car However it's the opposite in the case of cold weather, as the heater has to work harder in EVs, due to lack of engine heat

Hi Aj, thing is with international EV's that he test, they come equipped with a heat pump, while the Nexon EV doesn't have a heat pump. Now Tesla is having some major issue with warming cars in winters especially in Model 3 and Y. Which makes it inefficient, a complete opposite of why it was introduced in first place. In my testing I have seen A/c consuming more power while cooling, compared to heating. One reason can be that the compressor doesn't kick in and it's more of controlled resistive heating.

@@RahulKaushik09 tesla never actually had heat pumps previously..they realised that maintaining the temperature is easier with a heat pumps very late and introduced it when it became obvious that heat pumps are more efficient in utilising the same amount of energy that the car would otherwise use during resistive heating If you watched his recent thailand series, he explained in detail about why his tesla in hot conditions is more efficient while cooling vs his tesla in Norway trying to keep the car warm You should probably do some more crazy stuff with the Nexon like he does ..lot of data to be found We still don't know what's the regen capacity of Nexon EV.. ..I know that the kona gets a 100kw regen motor .but i don't know about the Nexon and MG EZ EV yet

Yup I am aware, the heat pump and octovalve were introduced with 2021 model year and its been having issues ever since. The one I used back in Canada had humming sound and the heating wasn't as good as the one without it. So much that had to take it to Tesla service where they retro fit a sound insulation blanket sort of thing around it. Many owners had it done later on. It makes a difference but not much. Now the insulation comes through factory as standard. But till date heat pump can't do with Canadian winters. Hope they do a recall soon coz software update isn't working. I have yet to watch his Thailand series, will do it soon. From what I have heard from people at Tesla service and fellow owners regarding heat pump is, the thing was introduced to bring down energy consumption and use energy more efficiently. But what we have seen atleast in Canada is that owners are cranking up the heat to the max for it do it job which it still falls short of. Some are saying that it's a software issue where the systems are letting coolant flood into the heat pump really quickly, which makes it over work. Now that has also been linked to high energy consumption as well as high rate of failures. Because the pump has been over working, failure rate is very high. This has plagued Model 3 and Y ever since the pump was introduced. So we have to wait and see whether the software update fix and a car with new hardware is still inefficient or it becomes efficient. The car's he has tested had those issues, so I am not sure if the results will be accurate. Tesla hasn't been forthcoming all this while, but now that the government is investigating, we will see what the actual root cause was. So if I go back while winter is lasting, will test it out in a new car. If not I am sure he will do it again :)

@@RahulKaushik09 yeah definitely a software issue. A simple fix but they will take their time to get it right as expected Also, I think that seat warmers would do well here in india. Rather than installing a full heat pump in Nexon or other EVs. A simple seat heater should be enough for keeping passengers warm and would end up being cheaper, efficient and simple to install Though it won't help the BMS in anyway.. Like the kona has it ..or some other ICE cars have Retro fitting it is really easy on any car as well

I agree with you on seat warmers. It will be a great addition. Heat pump will unnecessarily increase the cost of the car. Also our winters are shortlived and temperatures don't go sub zero that much. So the resistive heating should be sufficient. What EV will you buy in India if you have a choice today?

I saw this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9udtWgPzni4.html and at 23rd minute it shares the folding mechanism of Nexon that helps in getting a flat space. Can you try doing that in your EV and share if it works?

Seat fold karne ke baad bhi seat floor se 4 Inch upar rehti hai. Flat floor nahi banta. To kuch farak nahi padta.

Two step process 1. The rear seat cushions ca be folded towards the backside of front seats 2. The rear seats can be then folded down, so that it sits perfectly for a flat bed arrangement.

Hi Harish, it doesn't sit flat with the floor. If you the video you posted, from 3:36 onwards you will see that the seats still sits atleast 4 inch higher. So it's pretty much the same thing.

Ind ian s love new things they dosent apply mind when they ride scoter they love bike after company launch bike they come to scooter again..petrol to diesel again now petrol..cng to ev I m sure they will come to petrol again..becoz they didn't know battery discharge even if they ride or not after whenever u park ur car battery will discharge if u park for a week almost 50% battery will drain..electricity will be costlier 5 times in 2032..and where will u dump these batteries..they will make environment hell..all depend on single electricity no electricity no work..but in case of fuel this is opposite..

By your logic you still must be using a landline phone. The day you will start using a mobile phone, we will talk about how EV's work. Till that time try using yellow pages and make some calls to find out something about how EV's work.

It's great to have opinions, but don't utter nonsense thoughtless because here we are a part of EV community with thousands of members and this has never been a concern for sane ones. 10 years ago the petrol prices were nearly 50% less than what they are today, so did you ditch driving a vehicle and been rolling on bicycle ever since?
