When I was a little girl back when this movie came out, I wanted a long coat just like the one Meg Ryan wore in this part of the movie. I begged my parents to get one for me and I finally got it a week before my 11th birthday. I wore it all the time, literally, for the next year and a half until I hit my growth spurt and it no longer fit by 7th grade. I even wore it in the summer, not caring how hot or uncomfortable it was. I just remembered that when looking at a picture of my 6th grade field trip, it was September, everyone else was in summer clothes and there I was in that long brown coat. So I decided to look this up and I gotta say, Meg Ryan looks much better in that coat than I did.
Sailor Venus omg that’s so adorable! When I was a little girl, I tried cutting my hair like Meg’s character. I loved her 90’s bangs. But of course, mine never looked as good haha.
(Spoiler) I love this scene- not only the obvious reference to "An Affair to Remember" (in this one, 2 different cars almost run down Meg Ryan), but that they actually meet each other for the first time *here* rather than at the end (the strained violins at 1:11 are magical); you can see the wheels turning in both their heads that they think they already know each other- or are meant to be, etc. This scene, when I saw it in the theater, brought subdued gasps from the audience. We were all loving it.
I stayed in a houseboat on that very stretch of that street (Westlake Avenue) the first time I ever visited Seattle. Seeing it again in the movie was a wonderful surprise.
Always enjoyable watching the filmmaking process. I was there they shot this scene, of course it was comprised of different days of shooting. In particular the scene where she almost gets hit by the Taxi, Hanks was nowhere to be found, they basically filmed Ryan getting out of the car and then standing in the roadway as some cars drove by. They then brought in her stunt double as the Taxi approaches and honks it's horn, Ryan turns and you see the back of her head, but it was actually her stunt double's head wearing a wig, Ryan was off next to the camera off screen. It's to be expected they would use a stunt double since the car's brakes could have failed and that is why you hire stunt people. It was shot actually on the road right outside of where Hank's characters house is located on the water.
learning about soundtrack components in class with this scene as an example. right at 1:25 the guy in front of me turns around, looks me straight in the eye and says, "...hello..."
This movie as charming as it is is a total fabrication and is a complete fantasy. The feeble minded may actually believe this can happen in real life.Movies like this misrepresent life, love and relationships.
That’s sorta the point of movie, isn’t it? To suspend disbelief for a few hours, etc. People who watch Star Wars, Hunger Games or superhero movies can obviously do it haha. Sleepless in Seattle is not that far of a stretch.
