Day after day your instruction and stroke analysis is excellent. The grip, use of the non dominant arm, and follow through advice is spot on. I have a problem with your definition of the term SLICE. For the last 100 years , we've defined the slice as a level to the court stroke. Your backswing and downward initial stroke is a CHOP. Most recent players hit a chop with some sidespin ( like Ash Barty ). Look back at Rosewall, Newcome, Rafter, Graf, Ashe, Smith, and you will see a level TRADITIONAL SLICE.

Great video coach Brady. I got a decent backhand slice and also a decent flat 2HBH. My question is WHEN should I use the slice versus the flat? Sometimes I get a ball and I spend too much time trying to decide which shot to hit! Help me select when to use the slice

I have been using a eastern backhand grip. Can you please let me know the disadvantages. Its been working for me with the advantage of not switching grip. Every video recommends the continental which I find less drive.
@DailyTennisLesson

Eastern backhand grip is great for a standard topspin groundstroke, however you really should be in continental for slice. More spin, feel and control. Not one pro slices using and eastern grip.

dont worry to much as long you keep going down and back in your swing
@Tennisbull-match-statistics

In your shadow swing you go straight down with the racket face pointing forward the entire swing. When you hit the ball your racket face opens up briefly during the swing. Is that optional?

Good eye. You can use this "lag" to get extra bite on your slice, but not necessary when learning the technique.

the higher the contact the more his racket will open ( lets say become in a horizontal position ) before going down on the ball. 90 % of players have this technique

I don't get it - Federer and Thiem have totaly different preparation for a slice. And both have a really good biting slice. Slice is the most challenging shot for me.

Thiem's slice racket prep is lower and he brings it farther behind his head. Works for him but not as technically sound as Federer (in my opinion).

Is this same for approaches?
@DailyTennisLesson
@DailyTennisLesson 2 года назад
Yes. Footwork is a bit different as oftentimes you're moving forward while hitting this, but technique is the same.
