Another great video. I was just talking to a guy at our local large dock today and we were discussing how deadly the slip bobber really is. It is super effective. Not a lot of people where I am from (a small town in Northern Ontario, Canada) are familiar with the slip. This guy was though and I overheard him talking, about how he never sees people using the slip bobber, just the clip on. So, of course, being a huge fan of the slip bobber, I piped up and said "I use them and I love them". The thing I love most about them, is it's the most relaxing and lazy way to fish if I don't want to cast and crank, or jig or do anything. Lol. If there is a little bit of chop on the top of the water, the waves do all the work for you really. They seem to give it that perfect motion, that is irresistible to fish. It's like unattended jigging, lol. The biggest Walleye I caught this summer, was on a slip bobber and a worm. It's highly effective for multiple species. It works on everything from Pike to Bass, to Perch, Walleye, Salmon etc. There is really nothing it can't do and in craggy areas where you are likely to get hung up often on rocks etc. it really shines. Some people say, bobbers are for kids. LMAO! I'll show them just what a "the right bobber" can do. I can catch when nobody else is with their jigs, rigs and cranks etc. Although, those all have their place too. I've had so many people ask me "what kind of bobber is that and why are you catching fish and I'm not?". My answer is always the same "It's cause I can get right down in the fish's face with the slip bobber and that makes all the difference. With a clip on, you are limited to how tall you are, which is fine in 3-7 feet of water max, but no much more and with the slip bobber I have no limits on depth. Ten, twenty, forty or sixty feet of water and beyond." Then I show them how it works and they are fascinated. I love explaining how it works, actually and I do it a lot, cause people here are not that familiar with it. I don't mind repeating that at all, cause I want to see them catch fish too.

So the bobber stop goes into your reel as you reel in the line? That doesnt mess up the line at all during a cast? Ive never used a slip bobber only the clip on ones but im going to try the slips now. So obviously the stopper has to be a flat one correct? Round is no good?? Im confused

Bluegill20, I have the answers to all your questions my friend in another video I did called, "How to rig 4 different types of slip bobber stops - slip bobber basics". The video here is more of a supplement to that one. But yes, you do reel them up and some cast better than others. Go to my channel and then my popular uploads and again the title is "how to rig 4 different types of slip bobbers - slip bobber basics". If you like fishing for bluegills like your screen name implies you will like slip bobbers. I know I have caught some of my largest gills fishing in 8-10 feet of water in weed beds with my bobber stops set to 6-7 feet deep. Check out the other vid and let me know what you think. Thanks KPO

I was wondering about your thrill pro series slip float, what sizes are you using and how do you balance the bobber and the weights (at spillways)?
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors 4 года назад
I guess I don't pay much attention to the number size. I just kind of eyeball it. As far as balance, ideally the bobber will have the least amount of resistance possible to pull underwater. So you can add sinkers to the point where only the orange/straw tip is sticking out of the water. But that can be hard to see under most of the conditions I fish in. So I like to have a little of the yellow bobber body showing while I'm fishing. Thanks for watching, KPO.

Once you see your bobber get pulled to foot under water, do you then adjust a stopper down a foot?
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors Месяц назад
No, leave it as is. Once the "clip on" weight is removed, then the bobber will be on the surface and your hook will be a foot off the bottom. If that makes sense.

What if I'm fishing from the bank I set my bobber 10 and didn't get hung how can I judge my depth from the bank
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors 6 лет назад
Desmond, no doubt it's a little bit of a guessing game. If you want to be close to the bottom you may have to increase your depth a little at a time until you hit bottom, then decrease the depth and you should be close to the bottom. Use a bobber that will lay sideways until the stop reaches it like I mentioned in the video, this will help. I'm sure you know doing this does run the risk of getting snagged up. The only other thing that you could try is one of those new sonar bobbers (I-bobber). The bobber is actually a wireless transducer that sends back fish marks and depth signals to a handheld display. The bobber is meant to be fished with, but you could just cast it out and get the depth reading, then set the depth on your normal slip bobbers accordingly. I have never used one, but I could see where they might have a time and place. Good luck and thanks for the question. KPO

I'm a bank fisherman as well and this is a tip that I learned a while back. You need a crushed plastic soda bottle and a 2oz pyramid weight. Slide the weight onto the line and tie on the crushed bottle. cast it into where you want to fish. The weight will bring the bottle to the bottom. Measure two feet on your rod from the reel to an eye. Hold your line and flip the bail and let out line by hand from the beginning of the zero mark to the two foot mark. Keep doing this until the bottle surfaces. multiply up the number of times you let out the line by the distance (2') and wallah! you now know the depth at which you are fishing.
@IndianaNature
@IndianaNature 3 года назад
I go with the wingspan all the time. That's all you really need to do. If you don't know the depth, set it too deep and then back it off. How convenient that your wingspan is 5 feet and need 15 feet lol.

You keep adjusting deeper and deeper until you see the bobber stop not getting all the way to the bobber or the bobber doesn't sit upright. Then you know your hook and bait hit the bottom and your stop is set too deep. The method you explain at 6.12 to 7.01 really i don't understand can you explain much ?
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors 3 года назад
Fred, the "clip on" weight is heavy enough to pull the bobber under and go all the way to the bottom. When the weight is on the bottom you adjust the bobber stop until the bobber sinks about a foot under the surface. You may need to do a little trial and error to get this to happen (reel up, adjust, check again and so on). Once the weight is on the bottom and the bobber is 1 foot below the surface, you reel the whole thing in, remove the "clip on" weight and now when you put the rig back in the water and the bobber is on the surface and your hook is 1 foot above bottom. I hope this helps, KPO.
