Very true. My mum’s GSD is very very reactive and they don’t have correct experience in dog training to fix it. I want to help him cause I feel so sorry for him 😢 you can tell he’s just scared and insecure and wants to protect himself from other dogs. He was a pandemic pup in a rural village and didn’t get much socialisation with other dogs.
You've helped not only my boofers behavior, but also my connection with him. I really was searching for anything to help, he's 80lbs and can get excited. You've taught me a lot about how to be a better owner. Thank you for the way you teach and what you are teaching. It's better than the majority of the trainers in my small town. So,love your stuff but … how can you ask him to do something & then expect him to do it? “no one is really in charge here”, if you ask, he is in charge & walking away was his choice? You are trying to define & give clarity which is correct but when you “ask” you are giving him a choice…then you have to accept what he gives🤷♀️. Leaders tell, they don’t ask, you ARE asking. There is a big difference. If you tell a dog it doesn’t mean yell & scream but it does mean firm, fair & be decisive, not Siiit in a high indecisive voice. Leadership is a clear demonstration of someone who can Say what they mean & mean what they say. This communication is very contradictory & grey, dogs are black & white. Just my opinion.
To me his 'sit' command was higher toned because (I think) he's trying to show the dog that this is a good thing, but it still had a bite to it with no upward questioning inflection at the end, so still a command but a bit lighter tone, which was Ok and appropriate with this dog. He uses a much tougher sounding sit command on tougher dogs.
the high pitched voice for commands, is to be distinct from normal human speech, and gets a dog attention more effectively. You can still command a behavior with a high pitched voice.
Use the proper slip lead with a fix stopper. You should place the stopper so the lead won't move form the right spot: right under the chin, top of the neck.
