Thats awesome! I love hearing people who still drive these cars! Im interested since your car is a post-face-lift SLK (2001-2004) and have a rear sway bar, could you possibly tell me how the rear sway bar is mounted? My SLK 230 is a pre-facelift model and sadly doesn't come with a rear sway bar. I would really like to mount a rear sway bar in the near future to my car but I have to find the mounting points for it first. Thank you!
@@Khoanigsegg Yes I understand , I have had a few early ones , pre2000 are non tip tronic thats why I had the later one ! Have a silver one aswel , she has had a rebuild in 2015 , so both in the garage next to each other , my SLK200K has the registration SLK200K on it now in the UK , yellow SLK230 has a registration H15 KOM or his kompressor ! Cool plates ! These early cars I have heard have CLK front suspension parts ? Arms are like CLK I heard hence they don't handle as well as later face lift ones ? And I think they changed the steering angle etc , rear sway bar ? easy way is to change the whole rear axle as sway bar mounted already to the subframe and they are cheep to buy as they never go wrong , so not a sort after rare part ! If on a twisty race track then a SLK200 rear axle to lower gearing or the SLK320 rear axle to up gear the gearing for long straights etc ! These SLK's are one of the best cars for your money in any country , thay are so cheep in the UK now but most are rusty arches...... and not far away from scrap yard !......... Most for sale on Ebay hahahahaha
I'm impressed! Do you have any idea if that part could be easily mounted on a Mercedes CLK 200 Kompressor as well? I'm not quite sure how much of a difference there is between the exhaust system of these two cars.
BGcarsUnited I’d recommend looking at both exhaust diagram of both cars. My exhaust piping is 2.25 in diameter and I’m pretty sure if yours is a 2.25 inch diameter, you could just weld this muffler on. It’s a small muffler because the SLK R170 has little room to fit bigger exhausts. I believe if you search up the parts # that I listed, you could see the dimensions.
@@Khoanigsegg Thank you very much! Yeah, I found the part from the description and it's not expensive which is a surprise. I really need to make the exhaust note of my w208 a little bit like yours. :)
BGcarsUnited hahah good luck! I waited over a year before I decided to put the exhaust on. It was really simple and made driving the car much more fun. Now I’m itching for a louder exhaust!
There is minimal drone during highway cruising at around 80mph (3000rpm ish). It’s not that bad since there’s is still the stock resonator and catalytic converter on the car. Aside from that, I can drive the car as quiet as possible (basically stock) and be pretty loud if I take it upwards to 4K+ rpm. What I love about this set up is the flexibility to have it as quiet as possible and yet still be able to enjoy the exhaust notes at higher rpm. I drive a 5-speed manual so I am not familiar with how the automatic gearbox handle this exhaust. As a matter of fact, I am planning to get an exhaust that’s a bit louder than this. When on the track, I can barely hear my own car due to wind noise 🤣.
Additionally, this set up is perfect for daily and some fun. As compare with other exhausts I’ve seen on RU-vid, this one isn’t raspy at all and pretty low-pitched - which I love. Plus the muffler can be bought on amazon for $100 and it’s pretty light compare to the stock muffler.
hey bud great sound! just the end muffler and magnaflow? would not having a k&n drop filter make it quiter? i want it loud like yours but read the earlier comments and still debating. any suggestions for me? for maybe a different muffler inexpensive as this or any other things non ricey? thanks :)
Hi, it is just the magnaflow muffler that is listed in the description. The KN would not affect the sound of the exhaust and even with the KN drop in filter, the car would not be much louder.
Is that the full exhaust from the manifold or just the back box? I have a 230 and looking for this sound. Also what was the cost? Just making sure I'm not ripped off. Thanks
No, it is only the muffler that has been changed in the exhaust system. I replaced the OEM muffler for the Magnaflow Muffler. I bought the muffler on amazon for $100 and had it welded on for around $70.
@@Khoanigsegg awesome.. Thanks for the reply. I'm in Ireland, so do you have a specific part name or size/ code so I can order one from the interwebs and make sure its the correct fit? Thanks in advance 👍
@@MrMcdob Yes! So it is the Magnaflow Muffler #11365 (2.25 inlet and 2.25 outlet). On the Magnaflow website it is named "MagnaFlow 4" X 9" Oval Center/Offset Straight Through Performance Muffler" Here is the Magnaflow website: www.magnaflow.com/products/11365-performance-muffler-magnaflow-4-x-9-oval-centeroffset-straight-through-performance-muffler I purchased it through Amazon: www.amazon.com/MagnaFlow-Exhaust-Products-11365-Muffler/dp/B000XQM1LM Any more questions let me know!
@@Khoanigsegg thanks a million... I'll follow up with this and let you know how that goes.. Might take some time as I am a healthcare worker and the world is slightly mad right now!.. I have had a lot of work done on the care with a new battery and alternator and complete service of all gaskets and seals. The electrics have had a complete overhaul and fuses and relays have been changed. The windows have been re seated in the frames as they were out of whack.. I got some nice 17" original Mercedes wheels and have had them powder coated gloss black and got some black and chrome centre caps to go with them. I will post a video of the car when I have some more work completed..
@@Khoanigsegg actually just installed mine 2 days ago. You can hear the supercharger a little bit. But I still say yours is louder. Do you have a smaller pulley?
@@ericmulterer7795 Sweet! I have no pulley upgrades. Only engine bay “mod” is the drop in filter. Definitely sounds louder with the KN. Driving it, you wouldn’t hear it much louder - but I bet if you’re standing outside as the car passes, you will hear the supercharger whine.
@@ericmulterer7795 I have not done that much research on engine mod, there aren’t that many out there. But from what I’ve heard, consensus is to upgrade crank pulley. You can also run a “cold” air intake set up with the cone filter as well - but you would have to source it yourself.
@@conradooliveira8987 I do have a picture but I dont think youtube will let me post it on here. It's basically right where the muffler starts and you just weld the new unit right back on.
