These last few weeks writing my PhD thesis have been something else. I've been doing my best to find a good balance between productivity and taking care of myself, it's important to keep up with your hobbies and health.
I've experimented a bit in this video with different audio (music and silence), more info regarding my workouts, and a longer format. I would be grateful if you could let me know what you think, your feedback is important to me 🤍

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful and helpful video. I am struggling with my MA dissertation writing and PhD application. I feel overwhelmed every day that I have to keep writing after I wake up. I now realise staying in the studio all day is definitely a bad choice, which often makes me unable to clearly differentiate my study time and relaxing time. I now decide to write in the uni library and see my studio as a sleeping space. Going outside to feel myself connected with the nature and a lot of kind people is so helpful to mitigate my anxiety.

Heya, thank you for watching and taking time to write this up. I completely relate to you - waking up and knowing I still have so much to write and to do can feel super overwhelming. I always try to remind myself that being productive for 10 hours a day is unrealistic, and I’d be better off taking some time to care of myself. A change of scenery most definitely helps with those feelings, I’m glad you’ve found that the library works for you. How’s it going? The thesis and PhD application? Have you been feeling less anxious? Wishing you the best!

Happy your thesis is going well & that you've found a new bigger place to live. I personally really like the silent type vlogs so your experimentation with it was very pleasant to me.

Thank you for your support and feedback! I’m so tempted to make an entire vlog silent (just background noises of course), but there are some sections I don’t really know what to do with. Background sounds at the gym do not sound great 🥲 I’ll try to leave more silence in the videos, I quite like them too!

Oh absolutely, I didn't even make the hamster connection but now I can't unseen it... I just don't know what to do with my arms? I feel like I have them too wide and up, like unnaturally so? I am glad I'm not alone ahahah

I appreciate the video. Happy to have this genre of PhD lifestyle slices. I have a question. Can you please explain your relationship with phone usage. Because that discipline is hard to master for me. Thank you!

Happy you enjoyed it and could relate! This is actually a touchy topic for me - I also struggle A LOT with my phone usage, to the point I am finding it detrimental to my focus and mental health. It's a work in progress to use it less and, more importantly, use it mindfully. In my case, I notice I use it the most when I am anxious. If a task is challenging or it causes me to panic, I immediately want to reach out for my phone and just scroll a bit, take the "pain away". What's been helping me the most with getting out of that habit is just being mindful of how I am feeling, and why. Is the anxiety justified? Do I really need to fear this task? Can I replace this phone check with a little writing/journalling? Of course, the usual tips of muting notifications and keeping your phone away and out of sight do help. However, I feel like the only way to achieve permanent change is to have a mindset shift. To embody that we are not people who are phone dependant. It's not perfect. Some days are easier than others. I think it's important to realise that not all phone usage is bad, but we should be aware of what we are trading for that time.

A PhD can be so stressful and scary at times, it’s important to take it slow and remember to take care of yourself, physically and mentally. Best of luck for your PhD application and studies, keep me updated on how it goes 😊

Loved this video and gave me so much motivation to keep writing my thesis and going back to the gym, had a hard time organizing everything. I wanted to ask, what time do you usually wake up and go to sleep?

Heya! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, happy to hear it’s helping keeping that motivation up! I wake up at 5AM and go to bed at 9PM. I don’t use an alarm clock so it varies a bit between 4:45 and 5:15, I really like letting my body wake up naturally. Of course, any bedtime and wake up time can be productive and healthy if you make it so, you should find what works best for you! 🤍 Good luck with your thesis and gym return 💪🤞

I am so happy you enjoyed it! I need to start making more silent sections then, I love that they pass across the calmness I enjoy having in my days. Thank you for the compliments, I like going through life with a smile :) I film using a Lumix s5 mark ii and a sigma 24-70 f/2.8. When outside the house I use the polar pro variable ND filter 2-5 stops!

I am happy to see you, even though you have one room, but your life is beautiful and inspiring. I will miss this room. Haha. I am happy that you have moved to a new home. It is important. I have several questions if you do not mind. First question: Aren’t you afraid that your back will be damaged when you lift weights? Because I am still a beginner and I am also afraid that it is possible in an upcoming video to write out your recipes in detail. What is the name of the book you are currently reading and how do you plan your time and work in this way? It is really wonderful and organized. I want to know so that I can benefit from it and apply it in my day. Sorry, haha. I have a lot of special issues as a beginner and I need your help and advice. Sorry for the late reply, busy days moving and wanted to make sure I reply properly. There are parts of this room I will also sorely miss; the view and morning sun are stunning. But I am looking forward to having more space and separation. Also a bigger kitchen and proper stove! 1) If you are a beginner, focus on good form with lower weights. As long as you keep the load to what you can endure, your back will be okay. Building your back strength bit by bit will help you in the long run. Focus on form until you are confident you can up the weight slowly. 2) I am trying to fit more information into these vlogs about my food and gym routine. Did you like the "recipe" screen for the pre-workout meal? 3) I am reading "Flow, the psychology of optimal experience". It's being 6.5/10 so far, a bit preachy at times but overall good information 4) I am fortunate enough that my responsibilities are straightforward. I workout, I work on my PhD, I take care of my living space. I like to get the "hard stuff" done in the morning because I am a morning bird. The hours after my morning workout are my most productive times and thus I plan to use them the best I can. Hope this helps! Good luck with your gym journey :)

Honestly it’s just how I show it! A shot of expresso, some ice cubes and oat milk. If you don’t have an expresso machine, you can use a french press or even instant coffee, it does the trick. I’ll keep on showing myself making coffee, worry not, I love it too much ahahahah Falo português sim! A fellow Portuguese. Obrigado 🤍
