ngl, I always get my self confused about slowpoke, but instead of mono psychic, I think it's mono water. I think I'm confusing it with the other adorable dope, psyduck.
Slowpoke looks so excited in the thumbnail. It's like he's telling everyone that he just heard they're doing remakes for gen 1 on the new Game Boy Advance
You know, this mon's alternate forms have the same typing as venomoth... is what this guy would say even though I've said countless times that it is, in fact. , a dragon/grass type. The "ven" in it's name is derived from the roman godess Venus, while "moth" is derived from Mothra, a massive kaiju creature that fights Godzilla, who is clearly a dragon type. and from the type chart, we know that dragons kill other dragons.
Not sure if you read this but here’s a suggestion for a future challenge: HG/SS with the aces of the Kanto leaders or viceversa in FR/LG. Looking forward for this run! Love Slowpoke
When I grew up, my sister had Pidgeot, I had Fearow and my older brother Dodrio for the first gen. How about comparing the one that is best of the three? Either evolved or in base form.
One thing I never understood about the three headed bird was how it could learn fly but a certain water flying Pokemon from G1 couldn't. Does the three headed bird pull the hulk where it just jumps really high and long distance or does two of the three heads spin like a helicopter blades?
Here would be an interesting race that you could do in GSC: Do Tyranitar vs. Dragonite - the battle of the first two Pseudo Legends. They are both popular, have similar stats (T-tar trades speed for bulk), and good move pools. Also, give T-tar the nickname Darude, even if you don't use Sandstorm with it :P
Slowpoke is a fun Pokemon. I was surprised at first when you didn't give it Ice Beam, but I think you made the right call with its low Special and dual STABs. Gen 1 Amnesia truly is broken. I always give mine Flamethrower in later gens; not because of strategy, but because I think it's cool it can learn it lol. I like that you admitted you were a little off your game in this run. It's cool, it happens to everyone. How about a Growlithe v Vulpix run in Yellow? On the surface, it might seem like Growlithe is clearly better, but Vulpix has better Speed and Special and gets Flamethrower much earlier. Plus it gets Confuse Ray and they both get Dig. I've always wanted to see these featured more because they're some of my favorites from gen 1. Might not be the most exciting runs if I'm being honest, but at least they're cute.
I admittedly never really used the Slowpoke family all that much when I was younger because the visual designs and lack of speed stat didn't appeal to me, but in recent years I realized how much I was missing and just how defensive and versatile they where in the first two generations. Starmie was usually my go-to option if I wanted a Water/Psychic pokemon.
Best way to see how good the slowpoke line is... watch nuzlockes, especially the hard kaizo romhacks. Many of them the e4 mvp is slowbro. Gen 1 champion ace is an overlevelled mewtwo. Plan A is slowbro 3 amnesias and pray
@@luigibarqs but yeah starmie is and always has been better against a higher portion of OU pokemon. Every gen has had some sort of meta play that starmie could counter. Fast blizzard + tbolt, psychic type, recovery move gen 1. Entry hazards? Starmie has rapid spin. Weather wars? Give it thunder instead
Oh goodness I’ve made a grave mistake. I rewatched this and now all I want to do is go back and rewatch every episode that Scott has ever produced. Never too much Scott content
Great video as always. Between you, MDB, and JRose it's been a great week for content. Ok hear me out, as trolly as it is...what about a run using sand attack AND double team? Might not make for the most riveting content but God is it satisfying lol
I can't stand mah dry bread because of the way he says rutuhtuh. Jrose went into semi-retirement. So I'm just here now watching pork man runs to fall asleep. *Thumbs up*
I didn't watch your videos for a few weeks and your video quality has gone up soooo much! The little effects, showing a custom screen for gym trainers, sliding in important info you mention, it's great!
Great video as always, Scott! And remember, everyone goes at their own pace, no need to feel like a Slowpoke! You’ll get to where you want to be eventually! Just keep trying! Try 50 arm circles! Yeah, 50! Stick those arms out and make 50 small circles with your hands! Then do 50 more the other way! But make sure to pace yourself, and don’t forget to Rest!
Really awesome run. You can get one of the Kanto starters in Crystal but it's really late game. You can get them from professor Oak after a condition is met.
I'm sorry, what??? I've played alot of Crystal... and I'm pretty sure all of the Kanto starters are unavailable for Capture or Gift in the whole game, making them only obtainable thru Trade with Gen 1.
@@thefirespecialist9007 I currently have Crystal. You get it from Professor Oak's lab after you beat the Kanto gym leaders or after you beat the elite four twice. It's probably when you get access to Mount Silver. You get to select 1 of the 3 Kanto starters. It's a gift for when you face Red.
@@dakotashroom5401 It would be noted by Bulbapedia if that was the case. The ways it has listed for obtaining Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle, are: Time Capsule (Meaning, Trading with a Gen 1 Game), and Event. Event being 1 of those Japan Pokemon Center, or In real Life events, like the Squirtle that knows Zap Cannon, or Eevee with Growth.
Who else pronounced Rattata as Rat-a-tat-a growing up? I think I continued doing so until PokémonGO came out and realized I was wrong all that time! Love that you included this in the video
Its 4 a.m i started this video and was slowly falling asleep. then it was time for bloopers. I couldnt stop smiling. its 9 a.m now and i havent slept. ihave to listen to it again right now :D Sidenote: it was so nice of you to actually read out some of the stats for those who are "just listening" in another video i was "watching" a few days ago! thank you
Hey Scott, thank you for the videos. The funny thing is that I enjoy your videos due to mistakes in speech. I have hearing problems and so my speech is sometimes bad. So I can relate. Anyway I do have an idea for a video if you will. A Venomoth but it's type has change to a Dragon Psychic. This easy to change in Yellow using the Poke Edit GB program.
Was never too into Slowpoke, as I don't tend to like slow Pokemon, but he's a tough lil guy! He got paralyzed a lot, which was kind of insult to injury, ya know? Like, he already doesn't move much...
I feel silly for not knowing Slowpoke was actually the slowest Pokemon. Also, I really liked Starmie as a kid, so as a result I was pretty set in my ways about it being better than Slowpoke or Psyduck. There's also a chance I was creeped out by it's tail being eaten. Things are a bit fuzzy remembering how much I actually used it, but I'm glad that you did this playthrough. He's surprisingly good here, despite always being outsped. Koga and his ghost/flying type Venomoth was probably surprised, too.
I just wanted to mention that it's great how much more comfortable your commentary has become since your first videos. You've definitely come a long way. Edit: I missed a word and it deleted your heart on edit. Sorry! 😅
That just means I get to read your comment a second time! Yeah, I'm feeling a lot more comfortable in the recording step. I'm focusing my attention on improving script quality now as well.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Those force me to actively watch the video. The good side is I pay attention to your edits but the bad side I can't use you to sleep anymore.
Man, Water/Psychic is really a good typing combination. But you know what is better? THE CHALLENGE RUN / EVERY GENERATION TYPING OF VENOMOTH!!!!!! LET'S GO SCOTTTTT!!!!! LET'S DO ITTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for helping me maintain some semblance of sanity while trudging through nursing school! Been at a single assignment for almost nine hours now, and I desperately needed a break. It's not even a "X,XXX words with 7 APA citation references" bullshit assignment, just a casual "so, what are you gonna do for this patient?" assignment. With five diagnoses each having three interventions, and a somewhat complete patient history based on as many sources as I can gather from health records and the patient's own statements. Ya know what's really crazy though? Her mom had to travel into town during the winter in order to see a doctor who could deliver the baby, turns out it was twins, and then a blizzard hit and snowed them in for three weeks. After that, my newborn patient and her twin sister were carted home in a bobsled made of buffalo hide. BUFFALO. HIDE. BOBSLED. RIDE. THAT'S CRAZY!!! old people really have the best stories
Woo time for another Scott vid while I work. Your vida are super entertaining and keep me company. And at least this Slowpoke gets to live their life on top of the world as Champion, more than powerful enough to kick any ass who dare try to hunt it for its tail!
I just twisted my ankle real bad so I can't go to the fair like I wanted... Atleast, I have a slowpoke video! And I came before the elite 4, too! Today is still a good day 💕
Please do a Vulpix run in either Crystal or Yellow. Vulpix/Ninetales are my favorite Pokemon and I have not seen any videos on them. Maybe even a Ninetales vs Arcanine video for another video. Always love seeing your videos keep up the excellent work!
I was looking for my name in the credits and I noticed my name had shifted from Magmar all the way to Marowak. I’m glad you aren’t tiring Gen 1 while you work out the bugs.
Whenever you get to Pokemon Emerald runs, I would like to request a run only using a Trapinch. I would imagine that to be very difficult and interesting and I have seen no one else do a run like that before :) Good work as always, my friend!
First of all, I love the recent implementation of the 'Gym Screen' before the battle. I almost expected you to play it before the first Erika battle and then just play it in full reverse when you decided to try her again later^^.
Adding a Pokemon's critical hit chance next to its speed stat is such a nice touch. I can't remember if it's brand new, but this is the first time I've noticed it and I like it a lot!
Glad to see you still grinding and putting these out man. It's awesome to see the channel's growth. Keep going my good sir. ...still waiting on Primeape ;)
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOO Thanks for the run, Scott, I'm thrilled to watch this and I hope it awakens people to the glory of this derpy hippo cow thing I love so much!
Slowpoke is going to do great. Water, psychic, okay special, and bulk to go with it. This is gonna be fun Eevee does seem like it doesn't wanna go down in yellow. Nice pointing that out
Hey Scott, I've been a long time viewer since your second or third upload, and I've gotta say your content has always been great. You have a super interesting approach to narrative that just makes it a lot of fun to watch. You dont treat the viewer like a kid, but you also don't hesitate to explain things, even if your viewers have heard the explanation a dozen times before. I really like this, and your videos are a huge reason I actually borrowed SoulSilver and a 3DS from a friend to play Gen 2 for really the first time ever. I've always been a Gen3 kid; FR/LG and Emerald are my go to games to emulate whenever I feel the urge, but exploring the Johto region for the first time ever was such a cool experience, and I'd like to thank you for keeping the old flame of Pokemon nostalgia burning! Keep up the great videos, maybe someday we'll see an Emerald run with my favorite Gen 3 pokemon, Spheal!
Thanks for leaving this comment. Hearing stories like this really motivates me to keep making videos and constantly improve the content. I’m so glad exploring Johto in Souk Silver has been a really fun experience for you. Hopefully I’ll be heading to Hoenn in the future!
Honestly Scott, the production quality on this one was great. The new transitions and infoboxes must've taken a while to make (i love the crit % in the speed, too) keep it up mate :)
Slowbro is one of those hidden Gen 1 beasts, that people don’t use for 2 reasons: 1: you move 2nd. 2: obtained late game. But you just can’t look away from the Amnesia, Blizzard, Psychic and Rest combo. He really can take anything at that point.
Hope you read this comment and it makes your day better, because your videos always make mine better! :) I appreciate that you are open to learning and the possibility that you could be wrong, and using mistakes as opportunities to be better in the future! It’s a quality that’s all too rare on the internet :)
Nicholas, thanks for leaving this comment. It really brightened my day! I’ve had such a great time learn and growing with the channel over the last 10 months. I’m so excited to continue listening and learning even more!
He really does read all the comments. I commented "Dome Fossil" on an old Kabutops vs Omastar video and he ❤️ed it. Of course I'm gonna support scythey hands over the eldritch horror from the deep. 👀
Okay, so I know it would be awkward to do But a playthrough only using only fixed damage moves (eg night shade, sonicboom etc), so you can use multiple pokemon, but the only damaging moves you can use are fixed damage ones
I've had a week from hell and this was released on Monday morning for me. I'm finally watching it and thank you for being a small bright part of this week. I genuinely look forward to your uploads each week Scott. Lots of love to you man
I just pooked it up and realized the fire starters are almost exactly the same in both gens (sans some flying moves for charzard and rollout for typhlosion family)
Really great video, always enjoy the style of you commentary. What i think would be cool are some videos about the "forgotten side evolutions of gen 2 like Bellossom or Politoed. Wish you all a great week ^^
Hey Scott. I just wanted to say that I am proud of how far your channel has come. I'm gonna be honest, when I watched you some months ago, I was thinking that it's kinda "eeh". Now I feel you've improved tremendously and you really found your own style that suits you. You've become my comfort RU-vidr that I watch while I'm eating, which is a very important category of youtubers for me. Especially because I am so used to watching videos while I eat, that I cannot eat otherwise. That's right, you are literally keeping me alive, Scott. I don't know what I'm talking about anymore, I don't know where I was going with this. Anyway, great video and I am looking forward to the next one. Keep being awesome!
I didn’t realize until these challenges how piss poor Slowpoke’s special stat was That being said, Gamefreak had a special hard on for gen 1, even gen 2 since the only worthwhile physical attacking moves in the meta were pretty much only a handful, mostly: Rock slide, cross chop, drill peck and earthquake
When I first played Pokemon back in the late 90s, I didn't understand the benefits of moves like Amnesia and other stat boosting moves. I was more getting damage and being bad at RPGs. Now, I'm all about that Amnesia life and I would've thought Slowpoke would've been much better. I did watch JRose's video and that skewed my perceptions. No disrespect towards you, just a preconceived thought I had. This is why I enjoy your content, not necessarily an professional breakdown but you will take mistakes that you made and work hard at minimizing them similar to Pokemon that have minimize. Great work as always, I can't wait for the second part of the Gen 2 video. Keep the bloopers and lowlight reels coming. I try to say some of those tongue twisters and give up after about the third or fourth attempt.
Really felt that decision with Ice Beam. While I was looking at your movelist and noticed no Thunderbolt, the relative power of Ice Beam just didn't feel like a good fit here. Thanks to that Water Typing Surf is massively more powerful and Water/Ice tend to hit a bit of a similar niche, so Ice would have really only added coverage for flying and grass types. Flying types are a non-threat between Psychic, Surf, and Body Slam depending on where you're at. As for Grass types the only ones not vulnerable to Psychic are Tengela, who's still basically a non-threat, and the Eggecute line, of which the latter has such poor move options on the Rival that it's easy to just brute force your way though. It was really fun seeing that stall tactic against Gyardos! Really fun way to make use of that 4th move slot!
Looking for more suggestions, Doduo should be fun. It's fast as hell and is the best Normal/Flying type for like... 3 Gens. Brock will suck but that's not new
Been watching you for quite some time now and just wanted to say thank you for all you do x3 You have a very nice to listen to when falling asleep and I love you for the fact that you're the first one to realize that Venomoth is a Dragon Fighting type. I have a challenge suggestion: Pokemon Soulsilver with a physical Ledian
kabutops, slowpoke, and ponyta are my fav genwunz, and you have done two out of three so far ❤️ Ok, so about stuff said in the vid: I think there's a pressure to compare your vids to jrose, but I don't think that's fair to either of you, because you seem to be doing different types of runs. jrose is comparing the Pokemon, ranking them with level, in-game time, and consistent rules. We all know the Pokemon can beat the game, so the question is how good are they compared to each other. Your runs seem like that on the surface, and maybe that's what you intend, idk, but it feels like to me these videos are more about giving *yourself* a *fun* challenge, not challenging the Pokemon, and not taking it academic level serious that jrose does. So that's just how I see your videos, and I hope you understand where I'm coming from and don't fall into the trap of comparing yourself to him too much, and don't let yourself be goaded into comparisons by others.
I would love to see a first stage starter run in a different gen some time. Like Bulbasaur or Squirtle in one of the Gen 2 games. Loving these challenge runs btw
If i'm not mistaking then, Slowpoke is great, or better said, Amnesia is amazing. Imagine how awesome this would be with slack off. Also, your champion fight has like a 16% chance of going wrong and that's factoring paralysis, critical hits from both sides and ranges. Thunder has a 70% accuracy, a 1/3 to be chosen and roughly 1/4 chance of crit. I seriously recommend some extra rare candies to guarantee a OHKO on jolteon.
Love your videos and the way you put so much into the script and humor while still making the videos informational. Thanks for what you do! I’m also curious about what system and software you use to play these runs and how you can manipulate your starter. I’m sure you have touched on it in the past but I can’t find it. Any help would be amazing!
Here's an idea for future videos to make Koga easier: if you get yourself poisoned before you fight Koga, you won't have to worry about sleep powder when you're slower. All you need to do is get poisoned, fly to Fuschia, then use potions to heal up before you start the fight
Some questions for the group. What IS a slowpoke. What’s it based on? Is it a waterbear? Why is it psychic? Is it because it’s pink? Why do people like to eat it’s tail? Why does it only have one toe? Is the reason why slowpoke is slow because it’s pondering the mysteries of his existence?!
I think Surge had his AI altered to use Thunderbolt to make it more similar to the anime (which is essentially what Yellow was attempting to mimic). Surge's Raichu uses Thunderbolt against Ash's Pikachu during the rematch. It wasn't effective then, and actually the Pikachu negated the attack completely by standing on its tail. One of the many moves that exist in the anime and not the game. Another being that Pikachu gets his electric powers boosted to hurt rock-type, making the fight against Brock actually winnable for Ash and making your life way harder in Yellow.
